More bad news on the injury front for the Baltimore Ravens.

The team announced Monday that veteran linebacker Albert McClellan suffered a torn ACL in practice last week and will be out for the entire 2017 season. McClellan started in 11 of 16 games for Baltimore last season, tallying 55 tackles and one sack.

 

Related news that no one other than Falcons fans would care about is that rookie RB Brian Hill injured his ankle in Saturday's game against the Cardinals. Terron Ward seems to have nailed down the #3 RB spot behind Freeman and Tevin Coleman with a solid preseason including strong special teams play.

Hill needed a good preseason finale just to make sure he made the 53-man roster. But he has already been ruled out for the upcoming game. He might have been destined for the practice squad, but the injury would mean an injury settlement is required to release him, and that would make him off limits to the team for six weeks beyond the duration of the settlement.

 

DeShone Kizer will be Browns’ 27th starting quarterback since 1999...

For all Browns fans, I hope this one works for a while.

Giants DE Owa Odighizuwa suspended for four games

The New York Giants' vaunted front seven will be without one of its contributors for the season's first quarter.

Third-year defensive end Owa Odighizuwa was suspended for the first four games of the season for violating the league's performance enhancing drugs policy.

Odighizuwa has tallied just six combined tackles in 18 games played through two seasons with Big Blue.

 

The Hamilton Tiger-Cats are hiring disgraced ex-Baylor coach Art Briles. If the Canadian Football League will let them.

The CFL released a statement today, several hours after the Ti-Cats announced the hiring of Briles, indicating that Commissioner Randy Ambrosie may block the hiring of Briles.


“The Commissioner is in continuing discussions with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats regarding the hiring of Art Briles as a coach. We will have no further comment until those discussions have concluded,” the statement said.

Briles was accused of suppressing rape accusations against his football players at Baylor, in a scandal that resulted in Briles and the school’s president and athletic director all losing their jobs. That scandal made Briles a pariah in some football circles, but new Ti-Cats head coach June Jones thought Briles could help his offense, and so Briles was hired. At least unless the commissioner’s office stops it. (PFT)

 

In a shocker, Eagles trade long snapper Jon Dorenbos to New Orleans Saints in exchange for a 7th-round pick in 2019.

 

Rick Lovato is the Eagles new Long Snapper. Well technically he resumes the role uninterupted from December of last season since he was brought on then Jon got injured.

 

The Canadian Football League released the following statement Monday evening regarding Hamilton’s hiring of Art Briles as the club’s Assistant Head Coach Offence:

“Art Briles will no longer be joining the Hamilton Tiger-Cats as a coach. We came to this decision this evening following a lengthy discussion between the league and the Hamilton organization. We wish Mr. Briles all the best in his future endeavours.”

 

Lions and Matthew Stafford agreed to five-year contract extension worth $135M, making him highest paid player in NFL history.

It's $27M a year. Carr previously had the most at $25M/yr.

 

Most people might not think much of a long snapper being moved but Jon Dorenbos was the longest tenured player and also held the franchise record for most consecutive games played.

Could indeed be a speedy process. I've been tracking one with the Falcons that had been painfully slow up to now, but the trial date came and lightning fast the entire case has been removed from the court database. It's either resolved or rescheduled (with a new case number that will eventually hit the database). I'm hoping it has reached closure. Innocent or guilty, no one should have a misdemeanor case held over his head in the legal system for 18+ months.

It's another domestic violence case, and it has some interesting "who do you believe" angles to it. Among other things, there is allegedly video that would exonerate the player and potentially even incriminate the woman involved. Local media has naturally missed every bit of it.

I considered going to the courthouse for the trial, but it happened to be scheduled for the same day as the eclipse.

 

frightening for a guy who doesn't win as much as other QBs. Hell Brady has 5 SB Rings and he doesn't make this much.

 

I also heard on the radio that Stafford got 90 mil guaranteed, that's the highest to date, also.

 

It's a rising salary cap or at least the leverage rhthat with the rising cap someone would pay. Nothing to be in shock over. The next guy is always the highest paid unless a superior guy was signed very recently.

 

but Joe-giving to a guy who doesn't win that much is shocking to me. giving to a winner like Brady is a no brainer. giving that much money and $90 mil guaranteed to matt stafford is a little shocking.
