Ware (knee) will probably need season-ending surgery to repair a torn PCL and damaged LCL... Damnnnnnnn!
Browns have chosen DeShone Kizer as QB, will announce today DeShone Kizer appeared to do enough to win the Browns’ starting quarterback job on Saturday night, and Browns coach Hue Jackson is set to make it official on Sunday. Mary Kay Cabot of cleveland.com reports that Jackson has chosen Kizer over Brock Osweiler and Cody Kessler, and Kizer will start the season against the Steelers on September 10. Jackson will inform the team today and then announce the decision publicly, according to the report.
Relax, Ravens fans. Well, at least a little. Quarterback Joe Flacco, whose one-week absence due to a back problem is closing in on five, will return in two at the latest. “He will be back for the Bengals game, I promise you that,” coach John Harbaugh said after Saturday’s preseason game against the Bills, via Jamison Hensley of ESPN.com. Beyond that vow, details are scarce. Specifically as to when he’ll practice. Harbaugh said Flacco won’t practice Sunday. “He’s on schedule, though, I’ll say that,” Harbaugh said.
Glennon marches the Bears 96 yards to take a 7-0 lead on the Titans... that'll give John Fox something to think about.
Eagles acquire Dexter McDougle, trade Brooks to Jets The Philadelphia Eagles and New York Jets are swapping second-string secondary pieces. Philadelphia announced Sunday that it acquired fourth-year cornerback Dexter McDougle from Gang Green in exchange for fourth-year safety Terrence Brooks. Drafted in the third round in the 2014 draft, McDougle tore his ACL in Jets training camp and missed his entire rookie season. Over two active seasons on the field, he has seen limited playing time, tallying seven combined career tackles and one pass defensed. McDougle is the second cornerback Philly has poached from the AFC East this offseason; the Eagles' training camp trade for former Bills corner Ronald Darby was their first attempt to solidify the position group. McDougle should be a third-string option for the Eagles at least until rookie defensive back Sidney Jones is taken off of the NFI list. Brooks was drafted by the Baltimore Ravens one pick before McDougle in that very same draft. The safety ended his rookie year on injured reserve with a knee injury and never fully regained his third-round form. Brooks was waived on cut day last season and swooped up by the Eagles, where he compiled five tackles, one pick and two forced fumbles. He'll added safety depth behind rookies Jamal Adams and Marcus Maye in New York and could get serious playing time on a shallow roster.
Eagles didn't need Brooks after getting Corey Graham earlier this month. McDougle likely won't make the roster as he is a nickel corner exclusively and doesn't have much time to show anything with only 1 week to play. He however would likely go on the practice squad if no one claims him.
The 1st string offense still worries me, but showed some signs of life. Keenum has looked sharp. Overall the depth looks improved in Minnesota. Hopefully the defense got a wake up call. The first two TD's on them looked pretty easy... guy's were getting beat all over the place. Exciting game/win for a preseason game, but left me concerned about a few things.
Devonta Freeman‘s preseason is over, but the Falcons hope today’s return to practice is the first step toward having him back for the regular season opener. Via D. Orlando Ledbetter of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Freeman is going to return to practice today, as he works through the concussion protocol. Coach Dan Quinn has already said he won’t play in Thursday’s preseason finale, but likes the progress his star running back as made. “He’s still going through the protocol and part of that is returning to practice,” Quinn said. “He’ll do some individual work, . . . He’ll start the return to play process with us beginning [on Monday].” Freeman will still have to be cleared by an independent neurologist. He’s been out since Aug. 13, and hasn’t practiced since.
Reggie Ragland is no longer fighting for a roster spot in Buffalo. The Bills have announced that linebacker Reggie Ragland has been traded to the Chiefs for a 2019 fourth-round draft pick. (Not 2018, 2019.) Ragland has been the subject of trade rumors in recent days. On Sunday, coach Sean McDermott acknowledged that Ragland was on the bubble. The former Alabama linebacker’s rookie season was lost to a torn ACL. He becomes the latest draft pick from the Doug Whaley era to be shipped out of town.
The big sports news of the day, the one guy people thought wouldn't get a job before Kaepernick got one. Disgraced ex-Baylor head coach and rape enabler Art Briles was hired as "Assistant Head Coach of Offense" by new Hamilton Tiger-Cats head coach June Jones. Now everyone knows we suck. I wonder what to think when I inevitably run into him somewhere.
