Stafford and Cousins will be interesting contract negotiations. The Carr deal has set the bar pretty high. Lions management has all ready gone on record that they will pay Stafford whatever it takes to sign him long term in Detroit. Just a matter of time and we will see what effect this is going to have on the rest of the League. __________ _____________________ Detroit Lions president Rod Wood is less concerned with what it will take to re-sign Matthew Stafford and focused more on simply getting an extension for the veteran quarterback out of the way. Wood told ESPN.com's?Michael Rothstein?the possibility of Stafford becoming the highest-paid player in the NFL is on the table: "I'm comfortable in getting a deal done with him, and we'll see where that ends up.?It's going to be whatever it takes, I think, to make it happen from both sides, and whether he becomes the highest-paid or not, it'll be a short-lived designation because, as [general manager] Bob [Quinn] said, and I think it's true, if you're in the top whatever of quarterbacks, when your time comes up, your time comes up and then somebody else's time comes up, and they become the highest-[paid player]." Stafford is entering the final year of his current deal. According to?Spotrac, Andrew Luck has the highest average annual salary with a little under $24.6 million a year. (which was just topped by the Carr contract) Wood added that having a talented starting quarterback is an important factor in a team's playoff hopes, adding more urgency to getting Stafford's extension completed.

Here's a hint... Being on a bad team doesn't relegate you to becoming the 96th ranked player at your position.. YOU were one of the reasons they were a bad team, not the other way around.
Eric Ebron: Lions' new TEs will maximize my skill set The Lions have tinkered with their tight end group this offseason, signing Darren Fells in free agency and nabbing Toledo product Michael Roberts in the fourth round of the 2017 NFL Draft. Eric Ebron is planning on reaping the benefits of the new additions heading into his fourth NFL season. The former first-round pick set career-highs in receptions (61) and receiving yards (711) in 2016, ranking in the top 10 in both categories among all tight ends. A lack of a consistent second option at the position, however, potentially robbed him of even better numbers. Last season, 68 percent of Ebron's snaps had him positioned as an in-line tight end, per Pro Football Focus. With Fells known for his blocking prowess, it allows Jim Bob Cooter to employ more two-tight end sets and line Ebron up in the slot or on the outside more often to create mismatches in coverage. "I think it's going to play a significant role for me to allow me to do the things that I'm best at," Ebron said, via the Detroit Free Press. _________ _____________________ Personally, I think he will see less touches/targets. Competition is a good thing tho.
Kansas City Chiefs, GM John Dorsey agree to part ways The Chiefs are making a change at general manager. On the same day they extended head coach Andy Reid, the club announced that they would "part ways" with John Dorsey, shocking the football world and throwing the near future of their already-thin front office into question. According to a statement issued by team Chairman and CEO Clark Hunt, the Chiefs informed Dorsey that his contract would not be extended before the final year of the deal in 2017. "...And after consideration, we felt it was in his best interests and the best interests of the team to part ways now," Hunt said. "This decision, while a difficult one, allows John to pursue other opportunities as we continue our preparations for the upcoming season and the seasons to come. My family and I sincerely appreciate John's work over the last four-and-a-half years, and we wish him nothing but the best in the future."
https://www.yahoo.com/sports/30-million-nfl-quarterback-coming-wont-think-194505977.html the $30 million dollar QB ---Matt Stafford ??
Well, it could also be Winston or Mariota too. I do think Stafford is the front runner, but it wouldn't surprise me if someone else got the Jackpot.
Tom Brady taking up Sumo wrestling? Or is it an add for Under Armour's new line of moisture-wicking mawashi? You decide. https://www.instagram.com/p/BVpI0hEBcbF/?taken-by=underarmour
That's a valid point to me also, but Carr who got $25M per is not even proven or the NFL's best QB. So, it might be possible that the next few contracts could be exponential and raise the League average. I don't think its far fetched that $30M players are right around the corner. I'm just speculating based on the current trends, but things are getting to the point of ridiculous pay wise and I don't see how this can be sustainable at the current pace.
Because each team's salary cap is being raised by a rate around $10M per year (the last two years were $12M per) and the other positions are not rising at nearly the same rate as QBs...each year it seems the QB and one other position get a pay raise, this year it was guards... 2017 $167M 2016 $155.7M 2015 $143.28M 2014 $133M 2013 $123M So you take a team with a top tier QB, in 2012 they broke the $20M per year barrier with Drew Brees 5 year $100M contract...in that span, we are now at $25M per year, which is an increase of $5M per year, yet the salary cap has risen $47M over that same span...
i dont know what shocks me more - $30 million dollar qbs or that matt stafford could be one of them !
Tom Brady's so dumb, he announced he wanted to play a game in China because he didn't even realize he was in Japan... j/k

Chiefs want to interview Louis Riddick for G.M.?opening The Chiefs made waves last week with the surprising announcement that they had dismissed General Manager John Dorsey after four years with the team. The team?s co-directors of player personnel?Mike Borgonzi and Brett Veach are expected to be candidates for a promotion, but the team will be looking outside the organization as well. Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that the Chiefs want ESPN analyst Louis Riddick to interview for the job. Riddick was a defensive back for several teams in the 1990s and worked in the personnel departments in Washington and Philadelphia before making the move to TV. Riddick interviewed for the 49ers General Manager vacancy earlier this year before they hired John Lynch. Riddick said he was close to getting that job and, true or not, it looks like he?s getting another chance to make his case for running an NFL personnel department.
If offered a GM position, I highly doubt Riddick will stay in television. He's good at TV, and I enjoy listening to his takes, but I'd be shocked if he passed on an opportunity like that.
