Robert Kraft says football is safer than?ever

Hall of Fame running back Jerome Bettis and Patriots owner Robert Kraft are both on a tour of Israel that included a visit to a neurotechnology company that wants to improve the ways doctors diagnose concussions. But they?re not necessarily on the same page.

Bettis said he thinks the NFL has taken advantage of players by not giving them the full information they?re entitled to about the risks of brain injuries. Kraft, however, said the NFL has taken great strides in improving player safety.

?I really think that may be overdone a little bit. I mean, I don?t think the game has ever been safer than it is now,? Kraft told the Associated Press.

That might be true: The NFL has changed in several ways ? ranging from limiting contact practices in the offseason to mandating that players with concussions be removed from games to cracking down on helmet-to-helmet hits ? that are intended to make football safer than it was in decades past.

Saying the game has never been safer, however, is not the same as saying the game is safe. There are still a lot of players suffering concussions, and still a lot of questions about how healthy those players? brains will be when they?re Robert Kraft?s age.

Brady says his dream is to play an NFL game in China. That's more of a nightmare in my book. The NFL needs to avoid the Chinese at all cost's. Try Canada, or does that make too much sense?

My take - I'd shave a win off ALL those teams.

  5. Catfish Guest

^^ that means another loss for each team then. i don't see Dallas losing 5 games or the Eagles losing 7. Philly may lose 4 or 5 but 7 is a lot. Unless Dallas has injuries, i can't see them losing 5 games. Maybe I'm an optimist?

I tend to agree with Axe. That Division is going to be a war and the teams will beat up on one another. Should be one of the better Divisional battles in the NFL.

Will - it's about time they got back to winning games! they were a joke for a few years and a laughing stock !

Jets sign former Bears receiver Marquess Wilson

The New York Jets are adding a receiver to a stripped-down wideout corps.

The agent for Marquess Wilson tweeted that the 24-year-old receiver joined Gang Green on Tuesday.

The 6-foot-4 wideout displayed plenty of upside after being drafted in the seventh round in 2013, but injuries have curtailed his production. Wilson played in just three games in 2016 and ended his season on injured reserve with a broken foot.

Wilson flashed big-play talent in 2015, gobbling up 16.6 yards per catch, 12th most that season among wideouts with at least 25 receptions.

If he can stay healthy, Wilson could crack a remade Jets receiving corps that jettisoned Brandon Marshall and Eric Decker this offseason. New York currently boasts Quincy Enunwa, Robby Anderson, rookie ArDarius Stewart (injured), Charone Peake and Jalin Marshall atop the depth chart. (NFL.com)

I'm not to keen on players coming out in the open that their gay. I think they should shut up and let their game do the talking.

The Jets are hoping that their WRS will be so bad other teams will completely ignore them leaving them wide open.

So, you think they should hide in the closet and not live their life? That's sad...

  12. Willie Head Coach Manager News & Notes Vikings

I'm heterosexual, I don't kiss and tell, lol. Gays are not the norm, but yet think they need to come out of the closet and proclaim their position to the world and demand special treatment - I disagree with this.

I really believe that who you are attracted to, one way or another is a mote subject and whether gay or straight, its nobody's business.

I'm trying to keep an open mind, but when it comes to homosexuality, I'm a bit biased. I do not condone or support that kind of life choice, but if someone chooses it they should just play the game and not be too concerned what others may think about their personal choices.

lol, I never thought for a second that I need to disclaim to the world I'm straight.

In my opinion, the homosexual life style is not right... its flat out wrong and as long as I live that's going to be the case. I just feel that in sports, its not necessary to proclaim your sexual preference... it doesn't matter and its not important. Some things need to be left unsaid and I think this subject matter is one of them.

Thanks for reading! I don't hate anybody, including the homosexuals, I just don't like that life choice.

Free-agent corner Justin Gilbert suspended one year

Justin Gilbert's road back to an NFL field continues to become more difficult.

Less than two months after being suspended four games by the NFL for violation of the league's Substances of Abuse policy, the former eighth-overall pick had his suspension increased to one year by Commissioner Roger Goodell on Tuesday for again violating the league's policy, NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported. Gilbert must apply for reinstatement before he can possibly return to the NFL in 2018, Rapoport added.

Gilbert was originally selected out of Oklahoma State in the first round of the 2014 draft in a Browns class that also included quarterback Johnny Manziel. Much like the former Heisman Trophy winner, Gilbert's career in Cleveland was a massive disappointment that never got off the ground thanks to a lack of maturity and desire to improve. Cleveland traded the troublesome cornerback to division rival Pittsburgh, where Gilbert appeared in 12 games primarily as a special teamer, returning three kicks for 69 yards.

The Steelers released Gilbert on Feb. 6, prompting former Browns teammate Joe Thomas to comment on Gilbert's apparent dislike for the game. When combined with a year ban from football, it's reasonable to wonder if this will be the last we hear of Gilbert associated with the NFL. (NFL.com)

Years and years ago, I felt the same way you do. Until I actually became friends with a gay couple and after having some discussions on the matter, I researched it for myself extensively. I no longer think it is a "life choice/style" or a "personal choice" in 99% of the cases. I do think there is an extremely small minority that do make a choice, whether for an acceptance or attention getting reason. But, due to the research I went through, I truly believe it is physiological and not a mental state or choice.

I also don't believe that anyone that "announces" they are gay are looking for special treatment. I simply believe it is a means to free themselves to live their lives as normal human beings. It is implied in today's society that an athlete be a virile heterosexual man child. Anyone that deviates from that IS treated differently. By "announcing/declaring", it may open an athlete up to live his life freely...or it could end up making his life a living hell. In any event, I would say any human being should be free to live their lives the way God intended...and though I am a Southern Baptist and I have studied the Bible since I was about 8 years old, I truly believe that it is not a social choice, but the way a human is born determines their sexuality. My mother and I have theological discussions on the subject and she will never believe the way I do either. But, I also remind her that the King James Bible is the 9th version translation of the original scriptures discovered. And, the King James version has also gone through several revisions of it's own since the 1600's. Each version of the Bible is based on translation, that no one on this earth is an expert in. So to "blame" the Bible for one's beliefs is a bit naive.

I would at least ask that you do some scientific research on the matter before casting judgement...but that truly is your personal choice.

In 2017, I still can't believe people think someone being gay means they "chose" to be gay. Gay people are STILL being persecuted for who they are.

And no heterosexual will ever have to announce it because it's the societal norm. I don't have to think twice about telling the world I'm straight because it was already expected of me from the day I was born. I can live my life as who I am without issues. Gay people announce it because they don't want to hide who they are. Yes they could keep silent, but then there's all the behind the back whispers and speculation if "they do something gay" so I can understand putting it all out there and moving forward with no regret.

The gay lifestyle is no more wrong than interracial relationships (which used to get people killed, beaten, and disowned)

but he's retired and was going to kill himself, so it's different in this case. he was hooked on pills and was not in the right place in his mind and heart. the kc staff was right to step in and help him. suicide isn't the answer. do something positive with your life. don't give in to society's hatred against people who are gay. make a difference and change the world.

kids are killing themselves because they come out and get ridiculed and harassed at school. kids! pre-teens and teens committing suicide for being gay and being tortured and harassed for it. they didn't seek help and just wanted the abuse to stop, so they killed themselves. their families are left to live in agony over perhaps knowing and not helping them or not knowing enough about their child. either way it's horrible that society cannot allow people - men, women, girls and boys etc to live life as they are and as they wanna be. hell people who are transgender are being killed for it. The movie "Boys Don't Cry" that Hilary Swank won an Oscar for. The girl she portrayed was ruthlessly murdered. And hell even on the TV Show - Survivor - a contestant was outed as being transgender! The entire world watched as another contestant, who is gay, outed him! Is someone being gay bothering you? Do they offend you? Maybe you offend them by being straight? I don't know and I don't care. What people do with their own lives is none of my business. Like Rodney King once said "can't we all just get along?"

I think the posters above have said a lot of what needs to be said, in their own ways, and I appreciate that. Will, if you want to have a real discussion about the matter, I'm happy to have it with you. My best friend is a gay man, and he and I both teach a lot of gay students, male and female, and we work/perform in a field with a high concentration of homosexuals. I'm sure there's little to nothing you could communicate that I haven't already heard, and I hope I could shed light on things from the perspective of a straight man heavily involved in the gay community. If you can keep an open mind, or at least try to, I'm happy to have a private, patient, and calm conversation with you, if you'd like.

If not, the posters above all make valid points that need to be considered and addressed.

I apologize, I didn't mean to make this a gay activist thread. I was merely shedding light on my experience in the 90s and hoping to help someone else understand what I now do. This is most likely not the place to do so, but when I see something said that may have even come out a little wrong, I tend to speak what I feel.

Again I apologize for using a sports arena for issuing any sentiment on the subject if it offends anyone.
