  1. Campbell Administrator Manager Commissioner

My first thoughts on Steve Smith were to try and get him in house for an influence on the young guys or an attempt to sell a few more tickets.

Beyond that, yeah, it looks kind of odd to go after a retired player in the middle of a roster purge, lol.

Cardinals move Andre Ellington back to running?back

The Cardinals said three months ago that they planned to use Andre Ellington mostly at wide receiver this season. But plans can change.

Cardinals coach Bruce Arians said today that Ellington is back to being a running back. Arians added that the Cardinals will be challenging Ellington to run tougher and not get tackled easily.

At running back, Ellington backs up David Johnson, which means Ellington won?t get a lot of touches because Arians has said he wants to use Johnson as a workhorse back. The move to wide receiver was a way to get Ellington on the field at the same time as Johnson, but that apparently won?t be happening now.

Ellington has 398 carries for 1,697 yards and 112 catches for 999 receiving yards in his career.

The future of New Orleans Saints defensive tackle Nick Fairley remains up in the air.

Last week it was revealed that the former first-round pick had been away from organized team activities after medical tests regarding a heart condition put his status in question.

On Thursday, Saints coach Sean Payton told reporters that Fairley's evaluation is "still ongoing" and that the team is waiting to see what the final outcome will be.

"He's gotten two professional opinions, Payton said. "The first one was one that advised that he shouldn't play football again. The second opinion was a little different, and he's getting a third opinion or he's already gotten a third opinion, we're waiting on that opinion.

"The things we know are this, it's obviously something significant and serious that we've got to pay attention to, obviously both for Nick and for the club. So we're hopeful and yet we're guarded because of the type of condition that we're talking about."
Fairley, the No. 13 overall pick in 2011 by the Detroit Lions, has played six years in the NFL with the condition. (NFL.com)

    Jets sign Spencer?Paysinger

The Jets cut veteran linebacker David Harris early this week and they closed it out by adding a player at the position.

The Jets announced that they have signed linebacker Spencer Paysinger. The terms of the deal were not announced, but it?s unlikely to take a big bite out of the team?s ample cap space.

The move is a homecoming of sorts for Paysinger, who called MetLife Stadium home for the first four years of his career while playing for the Giants. Paysinger made the team as an undrafted free agent in 2011 and won a Super Bowl ring at the end of his rookie season.

Paysinger moved on to the Dolphins in 2015 and played in 29 games for Miami over the last two seasons. He had 83 tackles over that span and was a regular on special teams.

Taylor Decker suffers torn labrum, out 4-6 months

Detroit Lions left tackle Taylor Decker is looking at a lengthy recovery.

The budding star offensive lineman underwent surgery for a torn labrum this week and received a recovery timetable of four to six months, a source informed of the situation told NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport. This would make Decker a realistic candidate to start the season on the physically unable to perform list.

Following Rapoport's timeline, Decker could be back anywhere between early October and early December. Lions head coach Jim Caldwell told reporters earlier in the week that he did not see the surgery as a season-ending issue.
Decker was hurt a few weeks ago during offseason training activities.

This is obviously a tough hit to take. Decker was remarkably mature for a rookie last season. In a pass-heavy offense, he was a strength and not a liability, leading to a solid season for quarterback Matthew Stafford. Stafford's interception percentage was at a career low.

At this point, the Lions will be cautious with their young star but hope for the best. Should he recover quickly, he might be able to contribute in 2017.

Carson Wentz ?way more comfortable? this?year

Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz?s rookie season started off with four wins in his first six games while he threw eight touchdowns and three interceptions to earn early raves in Philadelphia.

Things fell off from there as the Eagles won just three games the rest of the way and Wentz?s touchdown to interception ratio went south as it became clear there was still plenty to be learned about how to thrive in the NFL.

Wentz?s decision to seek some of that education with quarterback guru Adam Dedeaux in California became a bit of an issue around the Eagles this offseason, but Wentz said he sought out the help because ?so many good players went there and it helped them.? Wentz feels it had the same impact on his mechanics, which is part of an overall improvement in his comfort level on the field.

?Way more comfortable,? Wentz said, via Peter King of TheMMQB.com. ?It?s OTAs, I know. But things have slowed down. I?m not thinking about everything anymore ? last year I was. Now I can feel the important things early in the play ? where?s my answer, what are my options, what will work? It?s a different game when you can dial it down and feel you know what?s important to look for, and you?re not looking at every little thing out there. I mean, cover-2 is cover-2.?

The Eagles addressed one of their biggest shortcomings from last year by adding help to the receiving corps, something that should help Wentz?s play resemble those first six weeks if Alshon Jeffery and Torrey Smith play as hoped. (PFT)

The article cites the Ravens' actual release that they signed him to a two year deal. How can you not believe the article? You could always just check the Ravens' site, if you have any doubts...

Ravens with a great signing. He'll do a lot of good for them (potentially). Why did the Chiefs release him in the first place? I wasn't around when it first happened, so I have no idea what the reasons for it were.

dline-i meant him choosing the Ravens over the Eagles, not him actually signing with Baltimore. On Friday, the Philly papers had 3 articles about Maclin not coming back to Philly, so seeing this 3 days later was a surprise.
