There's a line between brilliance and shady business and the Pats are flirting with it. If he's signed away the Patriots get a comp pick, and if not signed by 7/22 he can only play for the Patriots. Not sure it'll keep any team that wanted to sign him away, but good way to get an extra pick to trade away.
I don't get why this tender should exist. All it does is seem like holding a player hostage and not in a franchise protecting way like the tags.
A team that is trying to get comp picks would have to likely give one up to sign Blount. Any team that signs him that has planned out to receive comp picks next year would likely essentially be trading that comp pick to the Patriots. No to a team that surely doesn't have comp picks next year, like the Eagles, it wouldn't matter, but it would still help the Pats' odds in getting a comp pick for him.
Cardinals to sign Blaine Gabbert to one-year deal In case of emergency, Blaine Gabbert. That's who the Cardinals will be able to turn to -- if something unfortunate happens to Carson Palmer -- after they sign the quarterback to a one-year deal, which they intend to do on Thursday, NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported, per a source informed of the situation. Gabbert is joining the team with the intention of competing with Drew Stanton and former Miami (OH) passer Zac Dysert for the backup role, Rapoport added.
All the fans and NFL players whining/crying about Kaepernick not getting the gig over Gabbert are clueless. You can hire anyone you want to provide a service if your in the position of authority to do so. I'd be curious why they are so concerned in the first place.

The Browns are already done with him. They can't get rid of him until reinstatement though. Some fans are still salty about it though like the league hates them.
And you know this how? I can guarantee you that I follow the happenings in Berea infinitely more than you and I haven't seen one shred of information coming from the Browns that verifies your statement.
And your point is? Last year Gordon was reinstated (with a four game suspension penalty). He CHOSE to check himself into rehab, hasn't failed a single test in the past year, and now he's still suspended?
I said it on the Browns board, but it's seems stupid that he was reinstated last year, voluntarily checks himself into rehab to get better, and this year his reinstatement is denied when he's been clean for over a year.
If he didn't do anything to be suspended then why is he suspended? Checking yourself into rehab isn't a suspendable offense.
Maybe the NFL will allow Gordon to play. The AP ran a story today stating Gordon could be reinstated in the 'Fall'. They also said that the NFL is not going public with the details at this time but may at the time of reinstatement.
Ya, right. "In the fall". In the meantime, the Browns can just tread water while finalizing their 2017 roster while other teams that had players suspended can move forward?
___________________ ___________________________ Maybe the self- checkin to rehab is viewed as an admission to guilt by the League...
If checking one's self into rehab is an admission of guilt, then why does the league (more often than not) make professional rehab a condition of reinstatement?
