Actually, if AP is still physically capable he would be a great addition to the Saints. That pass happy offense would really help create a lot of running room for him without the 8-9 in the box he faced in Minnesota his whole career.
That's a good point... I just don't see Breeze running a run game tho. It could happen, but I still wonder why a RB is in their interest. I think there are 3 to 5 teams interested in AP, so he's going to be visiting just about any team that might pay him what he wants.
I believe the year they won the super bowl they were 6th in rushing yards. They also had some crazy stat like being tops in the league at rushing attempts inside the 10 yard line. They were also tied for 2nd with 21 rushing touchdowns that year (there were 2 teams with 22). So both Brees and Payton know the importance of a run game. He cannot play defense though so not sure how much help it would be. Other than the fact if you can use him to effectively run the ball it means the D isnt on the field as much.
Disagree. AP can't pass-block worth a lick, and he's almost never been a factor as a receiver. Don't see how that fits in with the "pass-happy" Saints.
Anytime you throw the ball 35+times a game like the saints do, you're just asking for trouble, especially when you have a weak defense like NO. Dallas was like that until we decided to change that philosophy. If new orleans decides to start committing to the run, then the signing of Peterson (assuming he's healthy and hasn't lost too much of a step) would be beneficial to them. HOWEVER, Its not just a matter of getting a running back. You're gonna have to rebuild that oline much like we did,
In an under-the-radar move, the Redskins signed MLB Zach Brown. He made the Pro Bowl in his one season in Buffalo, and should help the Skins a lot. The Bills wanted to retain him even though they're switching from the 3-4 to the 4-3. I suspect that played a big part in Zach's decision. I'm happy for Zach that he was able to move from obscurity to a nice payday - he could make over $5MM under this one-year contract.
Ben Roethlisberger says he'll return for 2017 season Surprise, surprise, Ben Roethlisberger will not retire. The Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback announced via Twitter that he informed the team he's looking forward to playing his 14th NFL season. "Steeler Nation will get my absolute best," he wrote. After a playoff loss to the New England Patriots, Roethlisberger said he was contemplating retirement, noting he wanted to "evaluate" all his options. No one bought the storyline. It's fair for a 34-year-old to think about the future and spending more time with his family, especially after a playoff loss. But it didn't seem believable Big Ben would walk away with so much left in the tank on a team with enough talent to reach a Super Bowl. Coach Mike Tomlin admitted the Steelers needed to prepare for life after Roethlisberger, but team president Art Rooney II quickly said he expected Big Ben to return in 2017. "As an organization, we have been hopeful that Ben would return this year," Tomlin said in a statement. "Ben and I have had many conversations, and I understood at this point in his career he is going to have to think about his long-term future. There is no question Ben wants to win championships for the Pittsburgh Steelers, and we know he will do everything possible to lead our entire team to achieving that goal."
Eagles DT Beau Allen suffers pectoral injury The Philadelphia Eagles will be without defensive tackle Beau Allen for quite some time. NFL Network's Mike Garafolo reported Saturday that Allen suffered a pectoral injury and will be sidelined 4-6 months, according to a source informed of the situation. The Philadelphia Inquirer was first to report the news. Allen, who is entering his fourth season with the club, was vying for a starting role after Bennie Logan departed during free agency. In his three seasons with Philadelphia, Allen has appeared in 16 games each year, and started in three tilts in 2016.
Ravens re-sign DB Lardarius Webb to three-year deal Lardarius Webb is headed back to Baltimore. Webb is signing a three-year contract with the Ravens, NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported Saturday per a source informed of the move. The Ravens released the eight-year veteran in March following the team acquiring free-agent safety Tony Jefferson. A 2009 third-round pick by the Ravens, Webb shifted to safety full-time in 2016, finishing the year as the league's 15th-best player at his position, per Pro Football Focus.
So he is out until the earliest the start of the preseason or through 3 to 4 weeks into the season. Not ideal. Thank God we got Jernigan earlier or else the asking price may have been higher due to desperation. P.S. Allen was never going to be full-time starter this season. He's a priority rotational guy, at least for now.
The Chicago Bears thinned out their glut of veteran corners. The team announced it waived Tracy Porter on Monday. The move saves the Bears $3.6 million against the salary cap. Porter spent the past two seasons in Chicago but made it through just one year of a three-year, $12 million contract signed last offseason. The 30-year-old veteran played in 30 of 32 games over the past two seasons, but dealt with knee injuries last season that contributed to his up-and-down campaign. In 2016, Porter compiled 48 tackles, nine passes defended and two interceptions. This offseason, Bears general manager Ryan Pace added depth to the corner position -- a big weakness on a poor defense last season. Chicago added Prince Amukamara and Marcus Cooper to take over starter roles, while also signing veteran B.W. Webb. With 2014 first-round pick Kyle Fuller missing all last season with a knee injury, Pace took a 'toss numbers at the problem and see what sticks' approach to the corner position in 2017.
Wouldnt it be something to see the Seahawks and Pats play each other in the SB with situations reversed (Pats inside the 2 needing a TD to win) and Brady turns hands the ball to Lynch and he steamrolls his way into the endzone. I cant stand the Pats but for some reason I think i would enjoy that.
