I don't know that anyone pulls the trigger on the trade involving #1 or #12. Jimmy is a free agent in 2018 so a lot of teams may be willing to simply let him hit the open market and bid for his services. However, Garoppolo was my highest rated passer in 2014 and I'm on record saying he would have the best career of the quarterbacks taken in that class. He has some catching up to do with Derek Carr and Blake Bortles (would have with Teddy if not for the injury) but I also thought getting him in a situation where he could develop his game some before being thrust into a starters role would be beneficial to reaching his ceiling. If Jimmy were in this class of quarterbacks, I would have him at #1 overall. That alone makes him worth a high first round pick on my board but the contract situation changes that greatly. When you take a rookie signal caller in the first you get 5 years to develop him. Right now the Browns would only be guaranteed the one season. You obviously don't trade for Jimmy without the intentions of extending him but what kind of deal gets done? Lots of question marks on years and money. Do I doubt the investment on return? No, but I think the asking price compared to contract considerations is not proportionate. Cleveland's first second rounder should be the appropriate price tag and considering the Patriots just sold the #32 overall for Cooks, if they could get the #33 overall for Jimmy-G it would be a win for the Pats. Basically it would read - Move back one pick and trade Jimmy Garoppolo for Brandin Cooks.
Exactly Tim. The contract is the big issue. The Pats don't truly have the leverage people are saying and if the Browns trade a 1st they are dumb. Yes he could sign elsewhere next year but they have the cap room to pay up. They'd have to anyways for an extension. People think the Pats are laughing with what they are gonna get for Jimmy. The could settle, they could sweat. The Browns can go with Brock or whoever for one season. They are likely stuck with his contract this year anyways.
The contract is a valid point but free agency assures you nothing. If you're Cleveland you're in a bidding war and realistically going to have to over pay. You give up no assets but you get nothing out of him for next season and you gamble that he will sign there. Not many marquee QBs have signed in Cleveland in the past.
I don't consider Jimmy Garappolo a marquee QB at this point but a good point nonetheless. If they want to spend 2 1st rounders on a QB, hit up Washington for Cousins. You brought in RG3 last season, why not replace him with the guy who already has experience in replacing him? I mean the third string guy came in for Garappolo and was able to match his contributions. Red flag for me personally on Garappolo...
Listen to this weird contract. Nick Foles actually signed a 5-year contract with the Eagles but the 2019-2021 years automatically void if on the roster the 23rd day preceding the 2019 league year. LOL What? Is this the only way they can make certain numbers work or something. So if he is still on the team on the 23rd day of the 2019 league he is just cut automatically.
Jacoby Brissett? hard to quantify his capabilities as well because he broke a finger on this throwing hand and played through it against Buffalo in a shutout loss. his one win against Houston was nice but he threw for 103 yards. Garoppolo threw for more yards in the 1st quarter alone vs Miami the week before.

BRADYS JERSEY FOUND! The biggest mystery of the Super Bowl LI?been solved, and, no, it?s not?how the Atlanta Falcons managed to blow a 25-point lead in the second half. As first reported by?FOX Sports NFL Insider Jay Glazer, the FBI and NFL security have?found Tom Brady?s stolen jersey, which has been missing for a month and a half. The NFL issued the following statement regarding the investigation, saying Brady?s Super Bowl XLIX jersey was also found. They were both found in the possession of a credentialed member of the international media. The jersey was valued at $500,000, which makes this potential crime a first-degree felony, assuming it was indeed stolen. At the time, Brady said he placed his jersey in a bag in the locker room. When he returned, it was no longer there, and thus the search began. Because the game was in Houston, Texas Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick enlisted the Texas Rangers to help find it. They were unable to do so, but the FBI apparently was. Glazer added that the jersey was found on ?foreign soil,? which is why the FBI was involved. __________________________________ LOL
It's just a way to prorate his signing bonus over the max 5 years. I'm surprised this was approved by the league the way you described it. Lots of teams / players have the option to void future years (see Brees contract) it's a whole different story to have an automatic trigger date void the deal.
Kiko Alonso got rewarded for a bounce-back 2016 season. The Dolphins announced they have given the linebacker a three-year contract extension, keeping Alonso under contract in Miami through 2020. The extension is worth $25 million, including $18.5 million guaranteed, which is tacked on to the $3.9 million restricted tender he received this season, NFL Network's Mike Garafolo reported Tuesday. The Dolphins prioritized locking down the 26-year-old linebacker after he compiled 115 tackles, two interceptions and four passes defended in 2016, his first year in Miami. The Dolphins acquired the linebacker in a trade with the Philadelphia Eagles after one disappointing season, when Alonso was clearly struggling to return from a knee injury that wiped out his entire 2014 year. ___________________________________
http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/b...sell-kurt-warner-his-own-game-worn-sb-jersey/ guy who stole brady's jersey, somehow had or stole kurt warner's and wanted to sell it back to him signed for $8000 ! wow. talk about shrewd.
Less than a week after the Vikings signed Latavius Murray, the veteran running back has gone under the knife. Minnesota announced that Murray underwent a successful ankle operation on Wednesday. The procedure was performed by Dr. Robert Anderson, the renowned surgeon, in Charlotte, North Carolina. NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport was told that once Anderson went in to the ankle, he discovered the running back needed a ligament repaired. The estimated time for recovery is about three months, Rapoport adds. Murray took visits so that teams could take a first-hand look. *WALL*
^^^ less commercials and stoppages work wonders. being at a live NFL game is slow and boring till the action starts. then it stops. tv timeouts come and the players just stand around. as a fan sitting there it's a slow torture. in cold weather games, it's even worse. anything they can do to make it go faster is better.
Mark Sanchez agrees to terms with Chicago Bears Mike Glennon has company in Chicago's quarterback room. The Bears have agreed to terms on a deal with?Mark Sanchez, NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported, via a source informed of the situation. Sanchez tossed two interceptions on just 18 attempts with the Cowboys last season, appearing in just three games as Dak Prescott's backup. The eighth-year veteran has started 72 career games, posting a 56.7 completion rate, 86:86 TD-to-INT ratio and 73.9 passer rating. He's among the most turnover-prone quarterbacks of his era. Glennon is due to earn $16 million this season, suggesting he's locked in as John Fox's Week 1 quarterback. That said, he's an inconsistent passer and an unproven commodity as the starter. After watching three different quarterbacks start games in 2016, Bears fans shouldn't be surprised if Fox is forced to turn to Sanchez at some point this season.
Rumor is Peterson is asking for $8 million on first season. Which could explain why he has not signed with anyone yet. This should also quiet going to Dallas theories. In order to go to Dallas Peterson has to have the mindset of he is the back up. Asking for 8 million for the first season shows he still at this point has starter mentality.
feel like Arthur Jones playing w/ his brother in Arz is gonna happen. $8m per for AP? prove you can stay on the field and then try that.
Jonathan Stewart will?stick around for a while. According to a report by NFL Network?s Ian Rapoport, the Carolina Panthers are signing their bell cow running back to an extension: meaning he's now locked in thru 2018... Stewart is a popular player for the Panthers and had another solid 2016 campaign. Still, this news comes as something of a surprise. For one, Stewart turned 30 years old this week, which is an age when most running backs (even very good ones) begin to break down and their production declines. It?s rare for them to get extensions at this point in their careers. Stewart has carried a heavy load for Carolina since being picked in the first round of the 2008 draft. In 116 career regular season games, he saw?1,501 carries, which he turned into 6,638 rushing yards and 45 touchdowns. There?s also a question of his injury history. Over the last three seasons Stewart has missed three games each and he?s missed 26 over the last five. Even still, the Panthers are confident he still has something left in the tank. However, this move is more about saving cap room than anything else. By spreading out Stewart?s original $8.25 million cap hit for this year over two years they will have more financial flexibility.
