Tell them to shove Garoppolo sideways.
Way too much for him. I wouldn't even include the number one overall. Let Belichic know that is off limits.

He hadn't proven anything yet and the nfl. He was drafted in the second round, so I would assume his value lies in the second round. The Browns are ridiculous if they give up anything more than a second round pick.

The Browns are discussion both first round picks for Jimmy G, the Texans gave a second round pick plus some in order to NOT have a player on their team, and here are the cowboys having a hard time getting anything for Romo. Crazy.

belichick isnt dumb as he's putting his fishing line out there and see who bites. if no takers, he can always take it to a new fishing hole. someone wants jimmy g. the price they're willing to pay is the key. browns need a QB since the 80's. how much is jimmy g worth to them? not 2 first rd picks obviously. maybe 1 of them?

Garappolo is worth more than his draft slot from years ago. His prime time week 1 win, the only game last season where the Pats were underdogs, plus his outstanding week 2 performance vs Miami count for something. There is also plenty of mop up and preseason NFL tape on him as well. Not sure if anyone here saw that game against Miami but if you haven't I suggest you do before coming to a conclusion on him. By the same token he has also already been injured in his short pro career.

I think Belichick could have the #12 pick + if he wanted it. Obviously no one knows at this point.

I'm not saying he's garbage by any means, but he has not yet created an identity yet in the NFL. What has he done so far in his career that has taken him from a late 2nd round pick to a #12 overall pick? I mean I guess you're worth what a team is willing to spend on you, but he was chosen with the 60 something overall pick.

Well, this logic is that no one deserves to go in the draft because no player has a career upon which he can be judged. Every single draft selection is a projection based on what the team thinks he'll produce.

In a position as critical as QB, a team must by necessity reach until they find that franchise guy. Sometimes a team, (like the Browns and the Bills), will reach several times before it works out and they stop needing to reach for a QB. It's over several drafts, but it's a lot more expensive in terms of draft picks.

So, where Garappolo was selected has no bearing on his trade value. He has done a lot more than any other prospect in this draft. If the Browns feel that he could get them off the wheel-o-QB then the #12 overall would be cheap. I cannot see the Browns spending the #1 overall, but #12 - if they're right - would be a fair price.

FWIW, I believe that Garappolo is a better "prospect" than any QB on the draft board. If it weren't for Tyrod Taylor, and the whole divisional foe thing, I would not mind seeing the Bills spend #10. In fact, I think that's what the hold up is; the Pats want to see if they can get something better than #12. To them, what's the rush? It's not like Belichick has to devise his scheme without having a settled QB situation.

Cassell looked great in New England too not so much after that.

I wouldn't even give 2 #1 draft picks for Brady (becaue of his age mostly) let alone an unproven QB like Grappolo. He has thrown less than 100 passes in his career his sample size is not big enough to justify 2 #1s IMHO.

I do not think that NE will ever get 2 firsts - in fact I don't think they get 1 #1 overall. But, I do believe he may be worth more than the #12 overall.

    Meanwhile, this:
applies to every single player ever drafted into the NFL.

Garappolo has looked IMO a lot more like an NFL QB than Cassel did when he was called upon to game-manage. Cassel did an exceptional job of doing what was asked of him, but he was not asked to run an NFL offense. Just like any prospect, we won't know for sure until at least a year from now; but, if Garappolo were in this draft class, my expectations is that he'd prove to have the best NFL career as anyone else. If the Browns believe that too, then they would not hesitate to invest #12 for him. Meanwhile, and rightfully so IMO, the Pats would hold out to see if they could do better than #12.

I disagree that his draft slot doesn't (or shouldn't) play into it. If he was an undrafted FA with his two three starts under his belt, I feel like a 1st round pick would be nowhere near close to what the pats would be asking. Case in point, Trent Richardson. He was the 3rd overall pick by the browns and because of that, they were able to get a 1st rounder from Indy for him, despite looking the part of a bust. If Jimmy g is worth a high draft pick with his small sample size, what would a guy like Dak Prescott be worth, given his record breaking year? Like 4 high first round picks?

If I'm a Cleveland browns fan I'd be livid if we gave up a first round choice for him.

  10. Jeanquev Legend Steelers

If he were in this draft class all we would have to go on is his college career which might not change his draft status anymore now than it did the year he came out.

I might think 12 for him if I was the browns but no way Id give more than that, but being its still a dice roll why not keep you 12 and use it on one of the qbs in this draft. Its still a crap shoot either way.

I disagree with you, kylews, and there's nothing wrong with that.

In fact, I think it somewhat helps support my point. If we knew what to expect of a player then Dak would have been a first, (and so would Brady back when). If we had a do-over, based on what we know now, I believe Garappolo would go before any other QB in this draft. I think he'd go top-10. To me, that is how we determine value, not what we thought in the past.

The fact that you disagree does not make either you or I right or wrong. Its all projection based on how we see things.

No. A team drafts based on the best information that they have at that time. We have more information about Garappolo than we did when he was at EIU. Teams should , and will, base any decisions on what we know now. Is it certain that he's a franchise QB? Of course not, but a player is never forever valued based on his draft slot.

couple misnomers here, not only has Garoppolo won 2 SBs....obviously he didnt actually win them but he was in the locjker room and that does have some merit, he has won primetime games and he's shown he has an extremely high ceiling. he's still only a couple years older than guys like Trubisky who only have 1 year of college playing under their belt. theres probably equal NFL tape on Garoppolo as their is NCAA tape on Trubisky.

Cassel did not look good in a Patriots uniform, he was adequate on a stacked team. that was the returning undefeated team that lost to the Giants in the SB and that Cassel lead squad is the only Pats team that hasnt won the AFCE in something near 15 years. Garoppolo actually looks the part, athletic, good feet and he has a cannon for an arm. Cassel had any of that, he managed the team to a decent regular season---- weak by Patriots standards.

  14. mattymcgee55 Legend Patriots Bruins

so what do you do w/ Malcolm Butler? does not getting drafted figure in to contract negotiations?....other than the RFA vs UFA leverage the team has on.

a lot more than his draft slot,

  15. kylews8973 Franchise Player Cowboys

I'm specifically talking about a Jimmy G here. Dak played an entire season and butler is entering his third year as a full time starter. I believe their value is clearly above their draft slot. Now Garoppolo? I don't think he's seen the field enough to improve his original draft slot, let alone a top 15 pick, especially not both a first overall and a 15th. However, this is only my opinion, so take it for what it's worth. I've just seen so many teams reach for a qb based on desperation, only for it to backfire in their faces and set their franchises back. Plus, I just hate the idea of new England drafting that high.

  16. kylews8973 Franchise Player Cowboys

If they wind up making the trade, I wonder if they'll grab OJ Howard. That offense would be absolutely sick. Brady, Blount, Cooks, edelman, Gronk, Howard. SCARY.

  17. gidion72 Legend Steelers

I don't want to see the Patriots get any first Rd picks after the great off season they had already.

Kevin Minter joining Bengals on one-year deal

Cincinnati is adding more talent to its linebacking corps.

The Bengals are signing linebacker Kevin Minter to a one-year deal, NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported, per a source involved.

Minter leaves Arizona, where he played one of two inside backer roles and showed improvement after starting in every possible game in his last two seasons. It's the second time in two offseasons that the Bengals have added a former Cardinals linebacker, with Karlos Dansby being the other in 2016 (with a stop in Cleveland wedged between Arizona and Cincinnati), but the first of this nature. The Bengals have found stopgaps at the position in veterans like Dansby and A.J. Hawk, but haven't turned to younger standouts until now.

With Dansby departing for a reunion with the Cardinals, Minter will join a position group that includes Rey Maualuga and Vontaze Burfict. Although he was an inside backer in Arizona, it's fair to presume Minter will occupy the strong-side position vacated by Dansby, though that was the subject of some debate, per the Cincinnati Enquirer.

Ranked 39th in NFL.com's Top 101 Free Agents, Minter finished 2016 with 81 tackles and 3.5 sacks in 16 games in Arizona's up-and-down and ultimately disappointing campaign.

I think Garappolo is worth as much as some one is willing to give up for him. Patriots are in a great position to ask high and see who bites. Seldom does a team ask a 'fair' amount or get a 'fair' offer, so if the Patriots ask high, there is some wiggle room to bicker on the offer.

  20. kylews8973 Franchise Player Cowboys

I've given this a lot of thought, and I've changed my thinking on this. I suppose giving 12th pick in the draft is worth the gamble, IF what the browns see out of him is franchise qb. Take the small sample size and project it over the course of an entire season. At that point a 12th overall choice would be stealing. It would take several firsts to get him. Plus, he was a player that when he was drafted, several pundits said he might be taken near the end of round 1. I just hate it when the rich get richer, and that's what the patriots are about to do.
