For one because Brady has a 14 million dollar cap hit next season for the 2017 season that ranks 20th.
And a lot of productive players still on their first contracts (remember they had the youngest SB-winning roster ever 2 years ago). This year is the first time I can ever recall that they went into FA near the top of the list in terms of cap space.
Latavius Murray is heading to Minnesota. The Vikings announced late Wednesday night they signed the former Raiders running back who rushed for 788 yards and a career-high 12 touchdowns on 195 carries last season in Oakland. The Vikings, who released longtime starter Adrian Peterson in February, ranked last in the league in rushing yards per game in 2016, averaging just 75.3. Murray totaled 4.0 yards per carry last year and has rushed for 2,278 yards in his career. "It was an experience, obviously it being my first time, I didn't really know what to expect," Murray said to the Vikings' team site of his free agency experience. "But just glad to get the chance to play the game again with a great team with great history here in Minnesota."
I wish nothing but the best for EJ. Things did not, uhmmm, work out for him in Buffalo. He may be ideally suited to be a back up QB. But I also know that he was given every opportunity to fail by Buffalo, especially his first HC, Doug Marrone. It's a shame because he has just about everything you want in a QB; what he lacked was poise while on the field. But much of that can be attributed to Marrone doing his damnedest to knock every bit of confidence out of him. He is a much better QB than what we've seen, and it's not all on him. Good luck, EJ.
So Dallas' secondary has lost Barry Church, JJ Wilcox, Brandon Carr, and Mo Claiborne, while the Giants added Brandon Marshall and the Eagles added Alshon Jeffrey and Torry Smith. Ouch.
Carr was our worst cornerback last year IMO, and Claiborne was lights out....when he played. I hate losing both church and Wilcox, tho. Looks like we'll be spending an early pick on safety, unless the coaches are liking what they see out of Heath and Frazier.
I guess I'm late to the party, but I just read where the patriots are asking for both of the browns first round picks for garoppolo?! That's absolutely insane.
