Chiefs working to make Eric Berry highest-paid safety

NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported Monday the Chiefs are negotiating a deal with Berry to make him the highest-paid safety in the NFL. The sides are working hard at a deal, Rapoport added, which could be reached before Wednesday's deadline to franchise tag players.

This is a positive development for Berry, who was?hit with the franchise tag last season and didn't sound particulary optimistic that a deal was close this past weekend. "I'm going to keep being patient because you never know," Berry said Sunday, via the Kansas City Star. "Last year I thought one thing and it didn't happen. So I'm not getting my hopes up; I'm looking at it logically."

If the Chiefs are able to reach a deal with Berry, they could use their franchise tag on defensive tackle Dontari Poe, Rapoport added. Keeping both Berry and Poe would be huge news for their defense.

Chiefs finalizing $41.25M deal with Duvernay-Tardif

The Chiefs have rewarded one of the key cogs in their ground attack with a lucrative long-term contract.
Kansas City is finalizing a five-year, $41.25 million extension with right guard Laurent Duvernay-Tardif, NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported Monday.

A sixth-round pick in the 2014 NFL Draft, Duvernay-Tardif has started 30 games over the past two years after essentially redshirting as a rookie. With Duvernay-Tardif and center Mitch Morse emerging as effective run blockers, the Chiefs' running game has remained effective even with Spencer Ware replacing Jamaal Charles as the featured back.

One of the great players in Chiefs history is on the way out in Kansas City.

The Chiefs have decided to release running back Jamaal Charles, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.

Charles has had an outstanding career in Kansas City: His average of 5.5 yards per carry is the best of any running back in NFL history, and he, Jim Brown and Barry Sanders are the only players ever with five different seasons of at least 1,000 yards and at least 5.0 yards per carry.

But Charles has been injured and was limited to just 12 carries for 40 yards last year and just 71 carries for 364 yards the year before. Realistically, a 30-year-old running back who is that slowed by age and injury just can?t command much money in today?s NFL.

Charles will hit free agency and can land somewhere, but he?s probably only going to get paid like a backup.

Here is m y question with Charles is he HOF? Now I know many are going to be quick to say no but with Terrell Davis going into the hall recently and the argument being his career was cut short due to injury do you put Charles in?

    Quick Comparison:
    TD: Attempts: 1655 Yards: 7607 TDS: 60 Rec: 169 RYards: 1280 RTD: 5
    JC: Attempts: 1332 Yards: 7260 TDS: 43 Rec: 285 RYards: 2457 RTD: 20

With two serious Knee injuries the same argument of a shortened career can be made for Charles. Granted he appeared in more games than Davis but he also did more per carry than Davis. He also did not have the benefit of a HOF qb on the field when he was on the field.

to me Jean he's not a HOF and not close to TD on several points.

-he never won a MVP; Davis did.
-he never won a SB; Davis won 2.
-he never was SB MVP; Davis did.
-he never rushed for 2000 yrds in a season; Davis did.

The NFL Salary Cap is set at $167M. I thought it was going to be at least $2M higher. It's lower than most expected.
