That's sort'a true. The way the blackout rules were written back then were they had to sell 90% + of the seats to be considered a sellout. The problem ??? The Coliseum has a capacity of 110,000. Back then, no team in the NFL could have done that.
They had better attendance numbers on the road than they had at home from 1992-94 Their average home attendance in 1992 was slightly over 52,000 I have not been able to find numbers farther back than 92 but what I have found they were not doing so well in LA
Now in 92 they finished with a loosing season so I guess you could argue fans just jumped ship but in 93 they had a winning season and down the stretch in a run for the playoffs they had 2 home games in week 15 and 16 that ended up being their 2 lowest attended games of the season (38,161, and 40,532). In the playoff race and they cant get above 50,000 for home games? I would call that no support.
Chargers will hire Anthony Lynn as head coach An unprecedented day in Chargers history will end with a new head coach. NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported the Chargers will hire former Bills interim coach and offensive coordinator Anthony Lynn, according to a team source. Lynn's meteoric rise will land in Los Angeles, agreeing to coach the team that just announced Thursday morning that it was leaving San Diego after 56 seasons.
Los Angeles Rams to hire Wade Phillips as DC Wade Phillips won't be retiring any time soon. According to NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport, the Los Angeles Rams have agreed to terms with Phillips to become the team's defensive coordinator. The news comes hours after the team announced Sean McVay as its new head coach. Phillips, who will enter his 39th season in the league come fall, most recently served as the Denver Broncos' defensive coordinator the last two seasons, including the team's Super Bowl 50 title run and victory over the Carolina Panthers. In Los Angeles, he'll inherit a young Rams defense, featuring stars like defensive tackle Aaron Donald and defensive end Robert Quinn.
Bills to hire Leslie Frazier as defensive coordinator Up goes Frazier! After spending a season as the Ravens secondary coach, Leslie Frazier is moving up north to Buffalo to become the Bills defensive coordinator, a source informed told NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport. Frazier has previously been the DC with the Bengals, Vikings and Buccaneers. He was the head coach for three seasons in Minnesota after he was the Vikings' interim for six games in 2010.
Will be interesting to see what Phillips does with the Rams' D...their personnel really doesn't seem very well suited to switching to a 3-4 to me, but he always seems to make it work.
Jordy Nelson (ribs) ruled out for Packers vs. Cowboys Aaron Rodgers will face the Cowboys on Sunday without the services of his No. 1 receiver. Jordy Nelson (ribs) was injured in last Sunday's win over the Giants and will not play this weekend, according to Packers head coach Mike McCarthy. Nelson will travel with the team and take in the action on the sidelines. Reading the tea leaves this week, this is the most likely course of action for the Packers and something both McCarthy and quarterback Aaron Rodgers seemed to hint at. Rodgers mentioned on Thursday in an interview with reporters that he hoped Nelson could be back next week if he wasn't prepared to make it against Dallas. Nelson did not practice with the team on Thursday. Nelson's value to the team cannot be overstated. Rodgers thrives on an unconscious, on-the-fly relationship with his receivers and Nelson embodied the quarterback's return to the upper echelon of NFL signal callers in 2016. With 97 receptions for 1,257 yards and 14 touchdowns, his production and knowledge of the system is irreplaceable. According to NFL Research, Rodgers' passer rating is 15 points higher in games which Nelson plays since 2014. His completion percentage is five points better and his yards per game average is 37.7 yards higher. Quinn most likely takes a stand up role at OLB. Morgan Fox is a name to watch for at OLB as a breakout player. Barron probably slides into the RILB next to Ogletree. Donald at DE, Brockers at the nose and Hayes as the other DE would most likely be the future front 7 when they go with a typical 3-4. It will be interesting to see if Easley gets a contract.
@MikeReiss 51m51 minutes ago Josh McDaniels confirms he is staying with Patriots. "At this time, best for family and myself to remain here in New England."
i.e. He's in high demand. No rush to fail on one of the most fail ready franchises. He can wait a year and get in a better scenario next year like Cincinnati or something.
AXE may be on suicide watch. ouch. 1 and done... and if it wasn't for the refs on 2 blatant grabbing the jersey calls, it may have been worse.
And if Dallas hadn't left a bunch'a points on the board with some questionable play-calling, they might'a won by 10.
I think his family situation was a huge factor...he may not be going anywhere until his kids are a little older.
Perhaps but I think it more has to do with moving now and then again when he's fired for SF sucking in 2-4 years.
Exactly...he didn't want to subject his kids to that right now. He's got stability in a career that offers little of it (and a pretty nice paycheck to boot)...I'm sure that carries a ton of value to a guy his age.
