Kaepernick's contract kicks in in April, so they have till then to decide what to do with him... which is just before the draft. So, job #1 for Kelly isnt really an easy decision, but he does have a little time on his side to make the right call.
The Tweet reporting the move also asked "What's Chip's first order of business?" and a follow-up reply said "Trade Cooper for Anquan Boldin."
The Pittsburgh Steelers will be without their best offensive weapon against the Denver Broncos on Sunday. Wide receiver Antonio Brown (concussion) was ruled out Friday, the Steelers announced. Brown had 119 receiving yards off seven receptions against the Bengals in a manic wild-card game. The hit that caused Brown's concussion by Bengals linebacker Vontaze Burfict helped set Pittsburgh up with the chance to kick a winning field goal. Brown was, once again, the best receiver in football this season. He finished with 136 catches for 1,834 yards and 10 touchdowns, despite the fact that Ben Roethlisberger was out with injuries for chunks of the year. The news is obviously a huge blow to the Steelers' chances, even if Roethlisberger's wounded shoulder allows him to do more than expected. Martavis Bryant, another member of Pittsburgh's talented receiving corps, caught five passes and scored on a circus-style touchdown against the Bengals. (NFL.com)
A largely disappointing season and the hiring of a new general manager made the outlook for Lions head coach Jim Caldwell fairly ominous heading into this week when the two were supposed to meet. However, it looks like Caldwell has survived again. The 60-year-old head coach will be retained by the Lions for the 2016 season, according to the team's official website. Caldwell has gone 18-14 in his two seasons with Detroit. "It's clear to me that this team believes in him and responds positively to his leadership," new general manager Bob Quinn said, via the team's website. Though the move will likely be met with rolled eyes by some, Caldwell made some wise personnel moves during the season last year in shifting to new offensive coordinator Jim Bob Cooter. Detroit started the season 0-5 before scraping out an overtime win over the Bears. They were 1-7 before the team made staff changes at the bye week and finished 7-9. (NFL.com)
The fines are in from last Saturday's Steelers-Bengals game, and they are hefty. Bengals corner Adam Jones was fined $28,940 by the NFL for unsportsmanlike conduct, a league spokesmen told NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport. Jones made contact with an official, which caused the second of two personal foul penalties to be called at the end of the game. Steelers coaches Joey Porter and Mike Munchak were each fined $10,000 each. Porter was infamously on the field during the series of penalties. He crossed the sideline after Antonio Brown was hit by Vontaze Burfict and sustained a concussion. Though coaches are typically not allowed on the field, Porter was believed to be showing concern for a player. Bengals players, including Jones, accused Porter of cursing at them while on the field. Munchak was caught on camera pulling the hair of Bengals safety Reggie Nelson after the two ran into each other on the sideline. As for the other players present amid the chaos: Bengals Domata Peko and Wallace Gilberry were fined $8,681 each. Petko was fined for unnecessary roughness and Gilberry was fined for unsportsmanlike conduct. Rounding out the list, Steelers offensive lineman Ramon Foster was hit with a $17,363 fine for a leg whip. Obviously, the big names here are Jones, Munchak and Porter. The three, along with Burfict, were at the center of Saturday's madness and have all been penalized pretty seriously. It was previously announced that Burfict would miss the first three games of next season. If we learned anything from this season, it's that those fined in a very public matter will have to watch out during the ensuing weeks. Officials won't want to see anything like last week's game happen again. (NFL.com)
The officials in the Steelers/Bengals game were put on alert to look out for anything that was anything like what had happened in the previous regular season Steelers/Bengals game. And the league sent tapes to both teams warning them about unsportsmanlike contact prior to the game. They did an awesome job maintaining control.

I was able to crack the top 10 of this and the top 10 of that, and be one of the best in franchise history. ... Man, not too many people can say that." (NFL.com)

In the post season he finished 2nd in receptions, 4th in receiving yards, and tied for 7th in TD receptions. Wes welker has a shot to pass him for receptions (he trails by 5) the next active player is Anquan Boldin and he trails by 25.
