Arizona Cardinals cut Michael Floyd after DUI arrest

Michael Floyd's disastrous 2016 season has cost him a job.

The Arizona Cardinals announced Wednesday that they have released the wide receiver in the wake of Monday's arrest on drunken driving charges. Floyd was previously arrested in 2011 for driving under the influence.

To add depth at the position, the team signed journeyman wideout and kick returner Jeremy Ross.

"There were a lot of factors, but it was a difficult decision for sure," Cardinals owner Michael Bidwill told NFL.com, adding there was a consensus among himself, coach Bruce Arians and general manager Steve Keim to release Floyd. "Deeply disappointed it didn't work out. He was a 2012 first-round draft choice for us, a person we thought would eventually take Larry Fitzgerald's position and be the No. 1 receiver for the future."

Packers coach Mike McCarthy told reporters Thursday that veteran runner James Starks is currently mired in the league's concussion protocol after his involvement in a car accident on Monday, per the team's official Twitter feed.

McCarthy emphasized that Starks is "OK," but his status for Sunday's showdown with the Chicago Bears is obviously up in the air.

Would love to see the Eagles take a shot at him! He could be easily their #2 WR in 2017 for cheap!

Will likely be facing a suspension though...Might be best to sign him now if you plan on doing so...possibly get the suspension started this year.

I hope the Browns stay away, we've had enough dealings with substance abuse to last a lifetime.

He could be good, he could be poison... tough to say, but someone will take a flyer on him.

Wonder how long the suspension will be. When the news first broke of his release, PFT wondered if a contending team in need of a deep threat might roll the dice on him.

He won't be suspended until next season, so the Patriots can use him to help them win in the postseason.

My eyes are bleeding !!!!! I didn't think it was possible for an NFL team to come up with a uniform uglier than my Browns' orange over orange uniforms. But the Seahawks did it !!!

Lucky him the incomplete call stands. The ball moved but it seemed to just slip in his grasp. Usually that is a catch. Weird.

BB on the signing of Floyd...

The Patriots added wide receiver Michael Floyd on waivers Thursday, a day after the Cardinals waived him in the wake of a DUI arrest on Monday morning.

Patriots coach Bill Belichick opened his Friday press conference by discussing the move and said that the team wanted more depth at wide receiver than they had with the now-departed Griff Whalen.

?We felt that obviously we?d rather work with Floyd at this point in time,? Belichick said. ?We?re aware of the situation that came up earlier in the week. We?ll let that legal situation play itself out, but really we?ll just see how it goes. He?s a player that we haven?t had before. We look forward to working with him and we?ll just see how it goes.?
