Most everyone probably already would do it. They'd be dumb not to. It's not like it's a new thing, just an inherent advantage in the existing rules. If you made it so that a game couldn't end on an offensive penalty, that would create far more opportunities for dubious behavior to artificially create extra chances to win games. And given how people love to rage about the officials overtaking games, I don't think you want to increase their responsibility for determining teams' intent on end-of-game plays by making it a judgement call, either. It's not a great look, but the alternatives are much worse, IMO.
It doesn't even have to be a judgment call on intent. It wouldn't even matter. Just like the 10-sec runoff rule. It just has to happen unless the defense declines it. They could call the play dead right away on the 2nd flag or something. There must be some judgment I guess as if you say if there is no intent to pass or punt or something then the punter cold just pretend to be ready to throw the ball, but it wouldn't require as much judgment as you think.
I guess the best compromise would be that you can't do it on that specific type of play (whose obvious only intent is to force the clock to run out)...i.e., on that rare instance where you're trying to end the game on an intentional safety or even a kneeldown or whatever, the game doesn't end if you commit an offensive penalty. But any other play where you're obviously attempting to advance the ball it would. Without putting a ton of thought into, that seems to make sense to me.
Eagles are now playing with 3 WRs on the Roster with Jordan Matthews out with an injury (at least for now). Agholar is a healthy scratch and everybody else that isn't playing got cut. All 3 of the receivers have not been on the roster prior to this season and Treggs & Turner are undrafted rookies.
PLAYOFFS PICTURE AS OF RIGHT NOW AFC #1 seed: New England Patriots (9-2) AFC #2 seed: Oakland Raiders (9-2) AFC #3 seed: Baltimore Ravens (6-5) AFC #4 seed: Houston Texans (6-5) AFC #5 seed: Kansas City Chiefs (8-3) AFC #6 seed: Miami Dolphins (7-4) AFC #7 seed: Denver Broncos (7-4) AFC #8 seed: Pittsburgh Steelers (6-5) ___________________________________________________ NFC #1 seed: Dallas Cowboys (10-1) NFC #2 seed: Seattle Seahawks (7-3-1) NFC #3 seed: Detroit Lions (7-4) NFC #4 seed: Atlanta Falcons (7-4) NFC #5 seed: New York Giants (8-3) NFC #6 seed: Washington Redskins (6-4-1) NFC #7 seed: Tampa Bay Buccaneers (6-5) NFC #8 seed: Minnesota Vikings (6-5)
I don't see why. I think most folks had the Eagles pegged as a 7-8 win team before the start of the season. The only thing that threw off that expectation was a 3-0 start.
I think Philadelphia Eagles fans should be extremely optimistic about the current direction of the franchise. There are some roster spots to be upgraded, but they are far removed from having the barest cupboard in the league.
I'm totally happy about the QB situation. I still don't think I'm wrong saying he's the best QB in the draft. Ya there is Dak but Wentz's main struggles is that he's got a banged up line trying to give gimps time to get open. While in Dallas he has a G.O.A.T. line with competent WRs., not to mention a complementary run game that makes it all easier. Dallas could win it all this year and it's no knock on Dak, it's just he is in paradise. I laugh at all the angry fans and critics that say Wentz checks down to much and doesn't take shots. If he wants to throw picks he can go right ahead. Smallwood shows more promise than I thought and I hope he can get more touches this year so we can learn if he can be something more than a backup one day. The defense had a bad day. Rodgers went quick pass city on them and they couldn't find an answer quick enough after half to keep the clock from running out. Here is the problem though, can the Eagles keep drafting WRs and hope? They may have to throw some FA money to someone that wasn't a career 3rd stringer on another team.
Eagles aren't out of it yet but it's past the time to hold out hope. You just cheer for them and if they can get back with some help in a few weeks then you can hope again.
well they need 2 wrs now. what will they do with lane johnson now? and who is the starting rb in 2017?
Eagles have 1 more year of Ryan Mathews. Cutting him would save $4 but if he heals I wouldn't mind having him back. It's not like we will need him to be healthy for the future. We can't have Sproles or Smallwood taking too many carries over a season can we? I'm more worried about 2018.
No doubt - Birds have a number of holes to fill. But QB ain't one of them, and for the most part, the defense has been good. That's a pretty good base to build from.
With seemingly every citizen carrying a smart-phone which doubles as a video camera, you can guarantee that if you do something stupid, somebody is filming it. And as a result, some Dolphins season tickets holders are out, for good. And as with a lot of controversies in the NFL this year, Colin Kaepernick is involved. Via Adam Beasley of the Miami Herald, the Dolphins used crowd-sourced video to identify the season ticket holders who were involved in an ugly fight in the stands of Hard Rock Stadium. Their tickets have been revoked and they are banned from returning to the stadium. ?We conducted an immediate internal review of the situation and have identified the season ticket members who were involved in the incident,? the team said in a statement. ?We work hard to remind fans that we want this to be a safe environment and this type of behavior and conduct is not acceptable.? The team didn?t identify those involved in the fight, but it couldn?t have been hard, after it went viral. It showed Dolphins and 49ers fighting, with a woman holding a small child nearby. CBS-4 reported that it broke out when a man in a Dolphins jersey started yelling derogatory comments about 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick, who angered many local residents with his pro-Fidel Castro remarks in the days before the Cuban dictator?s death. According to the man who shot the video, the Dolphins fan who instigated the fight said: ?Go back to New York. Leave, go to another country. You know, take your Muslim quarterback.? The fan who shot the video said he was disturbed at the amount of time it took security to respond, particularly since he was at the game with his young daughter. Guess they're satisfied with Cannon's consistency...5 year extension http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap3000000748564/article/marcus-cannon-patriots-reach-5year-extension
The last time the Dallas Cowboys lost a road game that was QB'd by either Tony Romo or Dak Prescott was December 9, 2013.
sf-dolphins fan fight... 1-why is a kid who turns around wearing a steelers jersey at a sf-miami game? 2-anyone notice a guy in a wrestling mask a few rows down? 3-who had the super big boobs at the end of the video? 4-how do you ban a fan for life? if he goes on another tix, will they have his face at every entrance? do you know how slow this will make the lines now? 5-the main culprit is the guy in the Suh t shirt and he has a beard. He will be banned, but if he shaves, i don't see how they can catch him on a different tix. 6-the young kid who throws 2 weak punches on the old guy got hammered by the guy in #5 with the beard. he threw 2 weak ass punches and got pummeled for it. this as ugly as it comes. no real help from the stadium people at all...
