Redskins' Trent Williams suspended four games "Today, Trent Williams was suspended by the NFL under the terms of the Policy and Program on Substances of Abuse for the next four games," the Redskins said in a statement. "We met with Trent today to discuss this unfortunate news. Per the terms of the Policy, Trent will be permitted to participate in team meetings and workout at the Redskins' facilities throughout this time. The Redskins are counting on Trent to help our team when he returns from suspension. Our focus will now turn to the Minnesota Vikings after our bye this upcoming weekend. Any questions related to this matter should be directed to the NFL or NFLPA." Williams' suspension begins immediately. He will be eligible to return to the field on Dec. 5 after Washington's game against Arizona. Per the terms of the policy, Williams will be allowed to attend meetings and work out at the facility. Jamaal Charles' knee injury will sideline him at least another eight weeks. The Chiefs have placed the running back on injured reserve, NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported, per a source. Charles needs a second surgery on his ailing knee, though the severity of his injury remains unclear. The earliest Charles can return is Kansas City's Week 17 game against the Chargers, a game that could very well decide playoff seeding and/or the champion of the wild AFC West. The running back, if healthy, would then be available for a postseason run. Tuesday's news is the latest in a string of setbacks for Charles, who has yet to fully recover from his second ACL tear suffered last season. Charles returned to the field in Week 5, but never regained the starting tailback role from Spencer Ware. The veteran back ran for just 40 yards on 12 carries in three games this season.
Norv Turner resigns as Vikings OC. No reason given yet. They have former OCs in Pat Shumer and Tony Sparano on staff to replace him. With Minnesota having one of their best seasons in a long time you have to wonder what happened here. Health? Conflict? Other?
Not sure what to make of this yet. Norv is rumored to have moved aside for Shurmur (has experience working with Bradford). There were discussions on Norv only staying through this season and then retiring but the timing on this raises questions. Unfortunately there may be an indicator here for Teddy's return. Turner wanted the opportunity to work with Bridgewater and develop him into a franchise quarterback (even called him a top 5 quarterback preseason). It is possible that the whisperings around the league over the past couple of weeks on Teddy's injury are correct and it is career ending.
3rd year head coach not being able to handle the pressure of losing two in a row after going 5-0 to start the year and playing the blame game...Norv being too much of a veteran with an ego to accept the blame...leads to over reaction and a hole in your OC position that will only be half filled by letting Pat Shurmur run the offense... But that's just a guess...I'm guessing some other excuse will come out in the next few hours explaining an undisclosed health issue.
Yep, I think Norv being 'resigned' is a nice way of saying fired by the Vikings. I think it was coming whether or nor Teddy is returning, but im just speculating. Under Spielman and Zimmer its a win now mentality... maybe Norv just realized he wasnt cutting the mustard. Hopefuly the offense isnt broke beyond repair. We will see against the Lions. ______________________________________ After further thought... it is very possible and likely Norv has a health issue.
Calais Campbell fined $18,231 for low hit on Newton Calais Campbell wasn't flagged for his low hit on Cam Newton, but the Cardinals defensive lineman will ultimately pay for his Sunday shenanigans. NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reported Wednesday that Campbell was fined $18,231 for tackling the Panthers quarterback below the knees in Carolina's 30-20 win over Arizona, per a source informed of the situation. Campbell's takedown left Newton crumpled and writhing on the ground. The signal-caller spoke out after the game about the number of late hits he's absorbed this season -- hits that haven't been flagged by game officials. The big-bodied quarterback went so far as to have a "great discussion" on the topic with NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell on Tuesday. "The nice part was the commissioner was a willing listener," Panthers coach Ron Rivera said Tuesday. "It was great and the nice thing is that (Newton) was able to say what needed to be said. At the end of the day, it's not about getting special treatment, it's about being treated the same across the board." (NFL.com)
The funny thing is that we're not hearing (at least not yet) that Cam is a crybaby or whiner the way that people made Peyton and Brady out to be for similar complaints to officials. The only difference I guess is that the officials for those two were usually influenced at the time of complaint.
If Cam wants the flags for the late hits, then the league needs to start penalizing him for his excessive celebrations after TDs.
He just wasn't good enough to stick around after that incident. PR move. Funny, the Eagles looking to add a receiver at the deadline and instead lose one.
Meh...they've been calling it the "No Fun League" for 30 years...he may have a valid point, but we've been hearing the same things since they banned the Fun Bunch, too...within the context of why ratings are down, I don't think that's really the reason.
