49ers trade RB Jordan Mason to Vikings

The Vikings are adding a body to their backfield, and the 49ers are subtracting one from theirs.

Via multiple reports, the 49ers have traded running back Jordan Mason to Minnesota.

He gets a two-year, $10.5 million deal with more than $7 million of it fully guaranteed. The 49ers recently had applied a second-round restricted free agency tender to Mason, at a salary for 2025 of $5.346 million.

The 49ers and Vikings swapped late-round picks, with the 49ers getting a 27-spot bump from No. 187 in round six to No. 160 in round five.

Mason appeared in 12 games with six starts in 2024. The Week 1 replacement for Christian McCaffrey, Mason had three 100-yard games in the first four weeks of the season. He had a career-high 28 carries for a career-high 147 yards in a Week 1 win over the Jets.

Mason missed the last five games of the season due to ankle injury.

Aaron Jones re-signed this week; he’s the No. 1 tailback in Minnesota. Mason will give them a quality backup, along with a guy who can give Jones a breather from time to time.

I can see a different approach to the Vikings offense this up-coming season and I like it. With the new additions on the o-line, 2 stout RB's, we might just see a good run game get established which will only help the play-action fake stuff to some really good receivers. When healthy, Mason is pretty damn good (captain obvious said).

Another morning without seeing Rodgers to the Vikings... I can breath a sigh-of-relief for the moment.

If you'd just resign yourself to accept the inevitable, you'll handle the hurt much better.

The Bengals have finalized new deals for receivers Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins. The news was delivered “exclusively” (or, more accurately, preliminary) to Jordan Schultz of Fox before it was distributed to other reporters. Both receivers have confirmed the development via the handshake emoji on Twitter.

Chase reportedly will get a four-year, $161 million deal. Although this part is (deliberately) vague, it would be a shock if it’s a straight four-year deal and not a four-year extension to the final year of his rookie contract, which was due to pay $21.8 million.

That makes the new-money average of $40.25 million an actual value at signing of $32.56 million. (And if it were a straight four-year, $161 million deal, it would have been presented as a three-year extension with a new-money average of $46.4 million.)

For Higgins, it’s a four-year, $115 million deal, with an average at signing of $28.75 million. To get that contract, he traded in $26.16 million in fully guaranteed pay for 2025 under the franchise tag and a straight-line shot at the open market in 2026, since the Bengals wouldn’t have tagged him a third time.

Higgins reportedly gets the first two years of the deal guaranteed; presumably, those years are fully guaranteed. Otherwise, it would have made no sense for him to give up the $26.16 million fully-guaranteed bird in hand.
