Report: DeMarvion Overshown tore ACL, PCL and MCL in right knee, putting 2025 season in jeopardy Cowboys linebacker DeMarvion Overshown underwent an MRI on Tuesday. It delivered even more bad news. Overshown tore the ACL, MCL and PCL in his right knee on Monday night, Todd Archer of ESPN reports. The second-year player will undergo surgery this week. His 2025 season is in jeopardy with three of the four ligaments in his knee requiring repair. It’s essentially a knee dislocation and usually requires more than one surgery, and the rehab is longer than an ACL tear with no other ligament damage. Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said Tuesday on 105.3 The Fan that he had no timeline for Overshown’s recovery post-surgery. “I don’t know at this time the time-date on his rehab,” Jones said earlier Tuesday, “but I just can’t tell you how bad I feel for him because he’s just been through that mental and physical rehab on his other knee. . . . It’s the toughest time for a player, and we all see the loss and know what it’s going to mean for us in our remaining four games. Bottom line is it’s really sad that he’s having to have this surgery for him as an individual and obviously us as a team.” Overshown’s teammates, including Micah Parsons, were heartbroken for him after the game knowing what he overcame to return for this season. Overshown missed all of his 2023 rookie season with a torn ACL in his left knee. The Cowboys’ second-leading tackler will become the 13th Cowboys player to land on injured reserve. PFT
On Sunday at 4:25 p.m. ET, the 10-3 Bills and 12-1 Lions will kick off in Detroit, and at the same time the 10-3 Steelers and 11-2 Eagles will kick off in Philadelphia. ___________ Thats good stuff right there. Too bad they are on simultaneously, but I've got ways around that.
lol... no Delorean, but as Gid referred to, I run split screen on the PC and I bought a 43" Smart TV last week, so between the PC and over the air broadcast's I can see just about everything. The PC can actually stream 3 games at once, but sometimes that gets tricky because of high CPU, 2 games is never a problem. Watching the 'RedZone' works cool also.
At this point in the season - Might as well let Cousins play out the year and have Penix continue to work on the things a rookie can while being on the sidelines. They still have an outside shot at the playoffs, so I get the idea of maybe throwing the rookie out there to try and shake things up in a positive direction, but I'd rather see them keep their eye on 2025 and beyond. However, if they give Mike an opportunity to start in the final week of the season, I'd be good with it. Kirk's contract has a no trade clause, so he won't get moved in the offseason without his blessing. The Falcons will obviously be looking at starting Penix in 2025 and will most likely call it an open competition in camp. It could get messy, if Kirk decides to make it so. Might behoove the front office to let him know they intend to go with Mike as the starter as soon as the season ends and ask Kirk if he is comfortable sitting on the bench for a year before being cut. It could possibly open up the dialogue for getting Kirk off the roster via trade (with an obvious contract restructure or the Falcons straight up eating a bunch of that dough). This situation is why you draft Michael Penix and let everyone bitch without a care.
I try not to judge folks, but Cousins seems to me like the type who wont be happy until he drains a bank somewhere. I agree totally on Penix and the Falcons would be smart to be patient and let him go through the process of maturation behind Cousins. I cant wait to see what happens when they tell Cousins that Penix owns 2025... that will be very interesting.
I wonder if the Falcons decides to with Michael Penix in 2025 how will the nerd acting Capt Kirk handle it?
Just to chime in on Cousins..... The only reason we are talking about him is the last (4) games. Which has been out of character for him... The Falcons are currently 4-1 in the NFC South, one game out of first place in the South and their lone game remaining in conference is the Panthers. They have an opportunity to finish the season, in the opposite direction of the past 4 weeks against the Giants, Panthers, Raiders and Commanders (being the only one I would actually call "tough"). The Commanders are on a similar trajectory as the Falcons as well losing 3 of their last 4 games. There's a lot of football left to play... IF they end the season 3-1, they have a pretty good chance of tying or winning the division outright.. If they tie, they have the tie breaker with the Buccs. When/If they win the division, especially if they are 5-1 inside the division, Kirk Cousins will be looking really good in the eyes of the front office. 15-37 is the combined record of their remaining 4 opponents... That's mainly because the Commanders are 8-5... none of the other 3 have more than 3 wins.. I'm going to let this season play out... I would expect a pretty decent turnaround for the Falcons starting this week in Las Vegas.
The schedule could easily have them 3-1, but that Carolina game feels like a trap... The Bucs are probably odds on for 2-2 or 1-3, so I'm not going to argue against your point of view when it comes to playoff potential. However, I'm not sold on the idea of a Falcons bounce back. Kirk has not only played bad football, but he has simply looked bad doing it. His arm looks tired too often on throws and, IMO, he looks like an aging passer that is questioning whether or not he can get the ball to the spot he wants it to go to. They already accomplished the primary goal - Have a starting quarterback for this season, possibly the next, and a quarterback ready to take over.
Even at the beginning of the season, there was some concern he wasnt the same since his torn achilles, mobility in the pocket has been off according to some and getting sacked 25 times hasnt helped. One thing he's got going is just dont turn the ball over, which goes for most QB's, but in Atlanta's 6 wins, Cousins has only 2 INT's... in 7 losses, 13.
NFL considering expanding replay assist to include facemask, potentially other fouls NFL executive Troy Vincent said the NFL will consider expanding replay assist to help with certain penalties. Missed facemask penalties are at the top of the list. “When we see it, because I see it like yourselves and the fans, I have an opportunity to see it from a different angle and see it from a slow-mo,” Vincent said Wednesday from the NFL owners meetings in Irving, Texas. “When you think about the position of where the officials are, things are happening so fast. Sometimes the facemask can be the same color as the gloves. There’s a lot happening. Concerning? Yes, because that’s a big miss. That’s a big foul. That’s why we would like to consider putting that or for the membership to consider putting that foul category that we can see, putting that [penalty flag] on the field to help. There is a frustration, and we believe that is one category we can potentially get right.” Officials have missed some crucial facemask penalties this season in high-profile games. Vikings quarterback Sam Darnold was sacked by his facemask in the end zone to end a comeback effort against the Rams, and referee Tra Blake said after the game said no official had a clear view of the foul. On Monday night, Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow’s facemask was yanked by Cowboys linebacker Marist Liuafu but went uncalled on a sack. “That is one this year, the facemask seems like it was the obvious [one to allow replay assist],” Vincent said. “That keeps showing up [as a missed call]. A few years past maybe the roughing the passer, the low block [were the most missed penalties]. That appetite will have to come from the membership. I think the committee will discuss where we as a unit feel like we can assist.” Hits on a defenseless player, tripping, the fair catch, an illegal bat, an illegal double team block, illegal formations on kickoffs and taunting are other areas the Competition Committee will review as potential recommendations for owners to vote on for expanding replay assist. “I think because we’ve continued to really — you never use the word ‘perfect’ something — but because we’re continuing to be better and better at it, I think expanding it becomes an obvious situation that we ought to look at as a committee,” Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones, a member of the Competition Committee, said. “Should we expand into other calls in our game? . . . It’ll certainly be something we consider as a Competition Committee in the offseason.” PFT ___________ Consider? Obvious? I think? You guys are a million lightyears behind the times. WAKE THE HELL UP!!!
I just don't trust him when he was with the Vikings he was a complete failure we will see if he can take the Falcons to the SB cause in Minnesota he NEVER DID
Bill Belichick finalizing deal to become head coach at North Carolina Bill Belichick is headed to the college level. Various reports throughout the day have indicated an agreement was close, and now a report from ESPN notes Belichick is finalizing a deal to become the head coach at North Carolina. Belichick, 72, has never coached in college before. But he said earlier this week that he plans to build “an NFL program at the college level” if hired for one of the opportunities. Belichick did not return to the Patriots in 2024 after 24 years as the team’s head coach. He has 302 wins as an NFL head coach with New England from 2000-2023 and Cleveland from 1991-1995. He is No. 3 on the all-time wins list behind Don Shula (328) and George Halas (318). Belichick has won six Super Bowls as a head coach and two more as an assistant with the Giants. PFT ________ __________________ per; ESPN "If I was in a college program, the college program would be a pipeline to the NFL for the players that had the ability to play in the NFL," Belichick said. "It would be a professional program: training, nutrition, scheme, coaching and techniques that would transfer to the NFL." He concluded a lengthy portrait of what the program would look like by saying: "It would be an NFL program, but not at the NFL level."
TNF Tonight... The Rams are trying to catch the Seattle Seahawks for the top spot in the NFCW and the 49ers are trying to just even break into a Wild Card. Both teams desperate, both teams trying to just stay alive. Last time they met was in LA back in September, Rams won, 27-24
The 49ers will have defensive lineman Nick Bosa, linebacker Dre Greenlaw and running back Isaac Guerendo for Thursday Night Football. All three are active after receiving questionable designations.
He already started his recruiting efforts… very smart. With the transfer portal, he can have the program competing within 2 seasons. He just needs to clear a couple of years worth of scholarships…
