No it does matter. Where was the ball before the forward arm motion? It was still in the endzone. That would have been a safety if grounding. Now had he reached and held it then it'd just be down inside the 1. Everything changed because of the loophole of illegal contact. Teams can start throwing it at their linemen's backs now to by rule avoid a safety and get called for illegal touching instead.

 

Might make things tougher for Bryce Young. He might be on the bench longer than originally thought if Dalton keeps playing like this.
