Watt has back surgery, expected to miss rest of season HOUSTON (AP) ? A person familiar with J.J. Watt's condition said the Houston Texans' star defensive lineman had back surgery Thursday and is expected to miss the rest of the season. The person spoke to The Associated Press on Thursday night on condition of anonymity because the team hasn't announced the surgery. Watt was placed on injured reserve Wednesday with a back injury. It's his second back surgery in two months after he missed training camp and Houston's four preseason games after surgery in July to repair a herniated disk. He started each of the team's three regular-season games and was hurt again last Thursday night against the New England Patriots. Watt, who has won Defensive Player of the Year for the past two seasons, will miss a game for the first time in his career Sunday after starting 83 straight games since he was drafted in the first round in 2011. Watt has played through various injuries in the past, including torn core muscles and a broken hand last season. This was a tough offseason for Watt, who had surgery in January to repair five torn core muscles before going under the knife again in July to repair his back.
So, you don't like Thursday Night Football Axe? I had no idea.. O I love it myself. Gets me geared up for Friday night lights, which rolls into Saturday college football all day long. I love this game and I love having options to see it more often than not. I can remember the days when all we had was Sunday during the day (no Sunday night)..then Monday night football, so you only got to see 3 professional games a week, and that depended on who was put on the major networks. Then College ball, there were usually 2 regional games between noon and 1:00 that you could choose from, a single game at about 5:00 and if a local team was playing, a night game. Not a CHOICE of night games on sports networks and multiple other channels. Yes, I'm dating myself back to the 80's when ESPN was ONLY a highlights network, they didn't actually carry games. Cable TV was a whopping 30-35 channels...and the biggest non local affiliate network was MTV, which actually played music videos on it day and night... Now we get complaints about "too many games to watch"??? Sorry, I can't get on board with that mentality.
True. When I was a kid there wasn't enough football on TV. I would rather them have more than I can watch then less than I desire.
And that's fine. For me, it's not special if it's something you get all the time. Do you feel the same was about baseball and home-runs? That having routine 60+ HR seasons was good...? I didn't. Plus, Thursday games invariably suck. Patriots-Texans game was awful. Bengals-Dolphins game was last night was awful.
It was better than what ever re-run I would have been subjected to...it was FOOTBALL!! What about the Thursday night games that DON'T suck? Like...Jets-Bills, both teams actually are pretty far down this season, but they had a helluva good game on Thursday Night Football to entertain us. Or the opening week Super Bowl re-match? 21-20 is not a game I would describe as "sucking". To each their own, if you don't appreciate Thursday Night Football, don't watch...no big deal...but don't talk about taking it away from the rest of us that want it.
LMAO! Please - there are almost an infinite number of things you do or watch that would have been better than subjecting yourself to that sheissdreck. Not saying every game is a dumpster fire. But going back through last season - 20 games now - we've had what, a handful of Thursday Night games that were actually entertaining? The percentage is ridiculously low. Sorry Dawg, but I can talk about anything I damn well please.
I'm sorry - I was unaware that there was a set of "IrishDawg Topics Only" that everyone had to adhere to. Maybe you can post this list so I don't offend your delicate sensibilities.
I have the delicate sensibilities? You respond to a rhetorical statement like "don't talk about taking it away from the rest of us that want it." with, "I can talk about anything I damn well please." Talk about a thin skin... Isn't it obvious that anyone can go on a public forum and talk about anything they wish, and within reason do it in any manner they wish? I'm not naive enough to think that the NFL front offices are researching these boards AND taking the advice of AxeMurderer to boot in regards to removing Thursday Night Football from their future plans. It's a Rhetorical statement...not a call to banish your words to the wind in hopes that no one hears them. *JOKINGLY* Geesh...grow a pair
LMAO! They guy who doesn't want to hear a contrary point of view talks about someone else having thin skin...? Hey, if it was just rhetorical, then that's fine. I just didn't get that from your initial post. No biggie. *DRINK*
Bills' Watkins ruled out; 'major concern' with foot... Jets rule out Decker with partially torn rotator cuff...
My friends and I were having this same discussion last night. I too remember when all we got were 3 games a week. Two on Sunday, and one on Monday night. You guys both make good points....When I was young, Monday Night Football was a REALLY big deal. It absolutely had a more special feel, then it does today. Hell it was the ONLY prime time game of the week....Nowadays we not only have 3 prime time games a week, but you can get ANY game you want on Sundays. We have "red zone" channels. We have TV shows devoted to the NFL 24 hours a day all week long......So yeah, some of the "specialness" about the NFL, or whatever you want to call it, has dulled, simply because we have this incredible abundance of football all day and every day....However, for me personally, as the football obsessed maniac that I am, I love it. We would get a Thursday game every once in a while back in the 80's and it was cool, but getting NFL every Thursday night is something I love. The more the better as far as I'm concerned.....Heck, I think they should take advantage of some of those late Saturdays in December, like they used to, when College football is done and give us a Sat doubleheader or two....Seriously, how many times have you been watching Army vs. Navy, wishing there was an NFL game on? lol! don't lie....
Cleveland Browns planning to release Josh Gordon Josh Gordon's Cleveland Browns comeback appears to be coming to an end. The Browns intend to release Gordon at some point following Thursday's announcement that the wide receiver is entering an in-patient rehabilitation facility, a source with knowledge of the situation told NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport. The development comes after Browns coach Hue Jackson told reporters that the team was looking ahead without Gordon. "We wish him well," Jackson said. "We need to close that chapter right now. We're moving on." The wide receiver announced Thursday that he was entering rehab in an effort to "gain full control of my life." Gordon is eligible to play in the Browns' Week 5 contest against the New England Patriots as part of the terms of his NFL reinstatement for a substance abuse violation. Gordon's decision to enter rehab, however, puts his comeback on hold indefinitely. "After careful thought and deep consideration I've decided that I need to step away from pursuing my return to the Browns and my football career to enter an in-patient rehabilitation facility," Gordon wrote. "This is the right decision for me and one that I hope will enable me to gain full control of my life and continue on a path to reach my full potential as a person. I appreciate the support of the NFL, NFLPA, the Browns, my teammates, my agent and the community through this extremely challenging process." (NFL.com)
Decker out...? Huh, I may have to re-think Brandon Marshall and get him off my bench. SOMEONE's gotta score for the Jets (I think).
