Mike Tomlin: Steelers have to clean up “catastrophic” penalties The Steelers were assessed 10 penalties for 80 yards in Thursday night’s win over the Titans, including six defensive penalties that gave Tennessee first downs. Steelers coach Mike Tomlin says that has to change. “Obviously it could have been cleaner, first and foremost from a penalty perspective. Part of being a tough team to beat is not kicking your own butt, and we’ve been doing that, and we’ve got to own that,” Tomlin said. “We’ll bring some officials into our practice setting in order to be cleaner, because that was catastrophic, really, to a lot of our efforts.” Asked how the Steelers did stopping Titans running back Derrick Henry, Tomlin again pointed to penalties as the biggest issue. “I thought we did a good job, I just thought the penalties were catastrophic to our defensive effort,” Tomlin said. “We’ve got to cut down on the penalties.”
I was way late to the party on cBS. Hell, I actually started on dial up. I was very late in entering the PC world and I cant even remember how I got involved with cBS. Originally on cBS I was looking at hockey stuff... somehow noticed the 'forums' section and the 'chat' stuff during games. By the time I realized what was going on, they pulled the plug and very un-expectedly... 'POOF', everything was gone. I hated cBS for that, because I was starting to dig this new world of PC sports stuff and meeting people on-line for the first time. Im am forever grateful to Mr. Tim @Campbell for immediately following up and rectifying the situation at that time in our era/lives. Thats why to this day this site is tops in my book, because of the people Ive been able to communicate with and discuss sports stuff with. Thanks again Tim for stepping up and foreseeing the future, it matters a lot in my life for reasons I can not explain at this time, but being able to see a few of you over the years and decades now, is truly a blessing. Sappy maybe, but i meant it!

George Pickens seems to be getting frustrated, and he’s dropping strong social-media clues of it Steelers receiver George Pickens has very special skills. Fans know it. Media knows it. Quarterback Kenny Pickett recently acknowledged to Adam Schein the importance of getting Pickens the ball. After two straight 100-yard games for Pickens, that hasn’t happened. And he’s apparently not happy with the current state of affairs. He had one catch for 22 yards in Sunday’s loss to the Jaguars. Last night, he had two catches for minus-one yards. And while he would have had a touchdown pass if he had dragged a toe instead of planting a foot, the fact remains that the Steelers aren’t scheming to get him the ball. They aren’t getting passes to him whenever he’s in single coverage. Because, frankly, whenever he’s in single coverage, he’s open. I asked him after last month’s win over the Ravens, in which he caught the deciding touchdown pass, whether anyone can cover him one on one. “No, man,” he said. “No.” Why is that? “Just strictly off of my mechanics,” Pickens said at the time. “I’d probably say the long speed, you know, guys panic a lot too. They give me a lot of space off the release. So I’d probably send my long speed, and if he tries to play over top, I’m a back-shoulder guy, too, so yeah, you can kind of say it’s unguardable.” Now, a day after the win over the Titans, there’s social-media chatter about Pickens’s apparently stripping his accounts of All Things Steelers. Multiple tweets from a variety of eagle-eyed observers noted that Pickens posted “free me” in his Instagram story, before deleting it. Currently, there’s only one post on his Instagram page: A compilation of highlights from the University of Georgia. Mark Kaboly of TheAthletic.com said on 93.7 The Fan on Friday that Pickens clearly wasn’t pleased after Thursday night’s win. “By far the first person that left the field, in the locker room and out the door,” Kaboly said. “By far. He was not happy. I was told by people on the sidelines after the touchdown, he didn’t really interact with anybody. Sulking his head in his hands.” Pickens admitted during our conversation after the Baltimore victory that his lack of involvement is sometimes “disheartening” but that, thanks to great defensive performances, “my spirits will be down, but it’ll be right back up there quickly.” He’s possibly disheartened today because there’s still no commitment to getting him the ball. Pickens told me it would be a “Madden dream” to get the ball every play. Currently, he’s hardly getting it at all. And it’s possible, based on his social-media Easter eggs, that even after a prime-time win, his frustration is reaching a critical mass. PFT
Mad props to Tim but also to @Steelroc74 (I believe) for finding Mud N Cleats and bringing us all over.
Montez Sweat agrees to four-year extension with Bears The Bears traded for edge rusher Montez Sweat earlier this week. It didn’t take long for them to sign him to a long-term extension. Sweat has agreed to a four-year extension, worth $98 million in new money and $105 million total, Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports. He will receive $72.865 million guaranteed. He was in the final year of his rookie contract, making $11.5 million. After giving up a second-round pick, the Bears had no choice but to sign Sweat to a long-term deal. That gave him leverage in negotiations, but the Bears got it done. Sweat, a first-round pick of Washington in 2019, has 35.5 sacks, 85 quarterback hits and nine forced fumbles in 67 games over five seasons. He has 6.5 sacks in eight games this season, which is only 3.5 fewer sacks than the Bears have as a team.
Man, its crazy how many fights there seem to be at NFL games now. I saw a vid of one on the concourse or somewhere at Soldier and a guy in a Fields jersey just totally laid out some other dude who wasnt ready. Dirty AF. I get these things are taking place in a small section of a big stadium but there just seems to be so many. Soccer gets a bad rep for this kind of thing but you rarely see it anymore. Also, this kind of thing is the exact opposite of what you'll see at a London game. And those games will have 31 teams represented every time(no Lions jerseys lololol) so you'd think the potential was greater. But no. Maybe they're all just so grateful to have a game to go to heh
I do miss the lame ass trolls you'd get on CBSucks, they were great value. There was a bunch of Cowboys ones, total idiots. And plenty of Packers too, it was good fun handing their asses to them. One time one of em came round looking to cause trouble and got so bent out of shape at the smack talk that he vowed to take bww to court for slander. Then his buddy, who was considerably dumber, kindly offered to be his legal representation. This wasn't a bit, these guys were being serious. Oh how we laughed.
Rams expect Puka Nacua to play despite knee injury The Rams don’t expect to have quarterback Matthew Stafford today against the Packers, but they do expect to have their leading receiver. Puka Nacua is expected to play despite a knee injury, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN. A 2023 fifth-round draft pick, Nacua is off to a historic start to his career: He has 61 catches for 795 yards through eight games, which puts him on pace for 130 catches and 1,689 yards in a 17-game season. The NFL’s rookie records are 104 catches (Jaylen Waddle in 2021) and 1,473 yards (Bill Groman in 1960). It may not be as easy for Nacua to produce with Brett Rypien replacing Stafford, but the Rams will need Nacua to turn in a big game against the Packers.
Giants place TE Darren Waller (hamstring), QB Tyrod Taylor (ribs) on injured reserve The Giants are getting quarterback Daniel Jones back after a three-game absence, but they're going to miss two important players for at least the next four weeks. New York has placed Darren Waller and Tyrod Taylor on injured reserve, the team announced Saturday. Waller, who is dealing with a hamstring injury, was already slated to miss a game for the first time as a Giant -- which happens to come against the team he made his lone Pro Bowl with, the Las Vegas Raiders. The 31-year-old was a big-name signing in free agency for a Giants team coming off a surprise playoff berth, and even though both he and Big Blue have been underwhelming through eight games, it's a massive blow. Waller has been the brightest spot in a dim operation that ranks 32nd in passing yards. He leads the team with 36 receptions and 384 yards. He's one of three pass catchers to find the end zone, although he's done so just once and it didn't come until Week 7. Running back Saquon Barkley leads in that category with two, and Isaiah Hodgins is the only wideout with a TD reception thus far. Tight end Daniel Bellinger will step into a starting role and be expected to step up, and Barkley could see even more work in the short passing game during Waller's absence. While Waller's injury disrupts New York's starting lineup, Taylor going to IR with a rib injury is equally concerning. He's a sturdy veteran behind Jones, who has already dealt with a neck injury this year. The journeyman QB has gone 1-2 in relief work, passing for 579 yards and two touchdowns on 57-of-87 passing in 2023. With Jones' favorite target on the shelf and his backup sidelined, as well, the Giants have a few extra obstacles to overcome if they are to pull themselves out of a 2-6 hole. NFL.com
Just tuning in... I see the Chiefs are up, 7-0. Tua and the Dolphins facing 3rd n 15 and do a shovel pass thing... always hated that. If you need 15, try for 20. Anywayz, good morning, its football time. I have my vices sitting next to me... enjoy the action.
Are you into squeezing your head in the vice? They made a big deal about the Chiefs having jet lag because they went to Germany two days before the game and the Dolphins were there for five days. The Dolphins look like they are suffering from jet lag not the Chiefs.
Mahomes really misses tyreke in his air yards stats, but obviously he doesn’t miss him when it comes to getting rings.
