Stewart, Marshall fined for hits on Cam Newton The Carolina Panthers thought the Denver Broncos deserved more penalties for their hits on Cam Newton in last Thursday's 21-20 season-opening loss. While it's too late now for the Panthers to get those flags, they might find solace knowing some fines were handed down for the Broncos' hits. NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported Wednesday that safety Darian Stewart and linebacker Brandon Marshall both received fines for helmet-to-helmet hits on Newton. Stewart was docked $18,231, while Marshall was fined $24,309. ESPN first reported the fine to Stewart; The Denver Post first reported the fine to Marshall. Newton was tagged several times by Broncos players throughout the game. Stewart's hit late in the fourth quarter, when he launched his helmet into the side of the quarterback's shortly after he released the ball, drew a flag. Marshall, however, who left his feet to put his helmet into Newton's facemask after the quarterback threw a pass earlier in the game, did not, though NFL vice president of officiating Dean Blandino admitted it should have. The Panthers argued the Broncos should have had even more penalties, perhaps pointing to Von Miller's facemask-to-facemask hit on Newton early in the game as well. (NFL.com)

Less than two months after Brett Favre headlined the 54th Pro Football Hall of Fame class, the nominees for the 55th class have been revealed. Former San Diego Chargers running back LaDainian Tomlinson leads the list of first-year eligibles for the Hall of Fame's 2017 class. The 2006 NFL Most Valuable Player, Tomlinson was a five-time Pro Bowl selection and six-time All Pro across 11 seasons with the Chargers and New York Jets. He ranks fifth in career rushing yards (13,684), seventh in all-purpose yards (18,456) and third in touchdowns (162). Every player ranked ahead of Tomlinson on the career rushing and touchdown lists already boasts a bust in Canton. In addition to Tomlinson, the list of first-year eligibles includes safety Brian Dawkins, defensive end Jason Taylor, quarterback Donovan McNabb, running back Shaun Alexander and wide receivers Hines Ward and Chad Johnson. Those players will be joined by 2016 finalists such as Kurt Warner, Terrell Davis, Terrell Owens, John Lynch and Don Coryell.
Bosa (hamstring) unlikely to play Sunday; Week 3 also in doubt The San Diego Chargers could have used a fresh body to chase the quarterback Sunday as the defense collapsed in the fourth quarter against Alex Smith and the Kansas City Chiefs. Sadly, we'll never know if first-round pick Joey Bosa could have changed the outcome of the game. Don't expect to find out in Week 2 either. NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported Thursday on Good Morning Football that Bosa is unlikely to face the Jacksonville Jaguars this Sunday and even Week 3 could be in doubt. "It does not seem so," Rapoport said when asked if Bosa would play this week. "He didn't practice yesterday with a bulky hamstring which he strained after just a couple days of practice. We know he showed up late in (the preseason) after not signing his deal. Was not really a holdout but was just staying away from the team until he signed his contract. "So he had a nagging hamstring injury. He missed last week. Hasn't even practiced in full pads yet. That is a major problem. Not gonna play until he practices in full pads maybe once or maybe more. It's not gonna be Joey Bosa this week -- the hope is for Week 3. But even that's not guaranteed." Soft tissue injuries, like hamstring strains, always cause coaches concern when players skip offseason workouts.
BILLS FIRE OFFENSIVE COORDINATOR GREG ROMAN Buffalo promoting RB coach Anthony Lynn to offensive coordinator...
If you thought the offense was conservative under Roman, just wait till you see how close to the vest it becomes under Lynn.
This bangs the pooch. I've already commented on the Bills board and am too pissed to bother repeating here. Chow dung!, Rex!
This was supposed to be a good defensive team. They gave up 500 yards and 37 points to a crappie Jets offense. Maybe they should have fired the defensive coach.
