2015 - Peyton Manning - $17.5M cap hit 2014 - Tom Brady - $14.8M cap hit 2013 - Russell Wilson - $681K cap hit 2012 - Joe Flacco - $8M cap hit 2011 - Eli Manning - $14.1M cap hit From a cap hit standpoint, only Peyton Manning's from last season is similar to what Brees is this year, and none are even close to what his cap hit would have been last year, or what it was previously projected to be this season (or all offseason this year) prior to signing his deal yesterday. The point beach is making is: 1) Why did it take Brees and the Saints this long to come to these terms? Doing this same deal in March would have freed up all kinds of cap space that the team could have used to improve itself. Doing it now does not help the Saints in 2016. 2) This is not remotely any kind of pay cut. The guy was just handed a $30M signing bonus on a two year contract, plus he gets another $13M salary next year! Plus, those "voidable" years are only there to carry the cap hit into. If Brees doesn't sign another extension prior to the 2018 season, the Saints are on the hook for an $18M dead money charge in 2018! This is truly not a team friendly deal. The only thing it has done is lower his cap hit this year, which really only would have been truly beneficial months ago.
I'm just not going to agree here. The GM guaranteed boatloads of money to Browner, Byrd, Gallette, Evans etc... That had nothing to do with the Brees contract. These were not necessarily back loaded deals, they were gigantic chunks of guaranteed funds. Again, for the second time, I appreciate that the timing of this mess was horrible. I don't think you can pinpoint it solely on Brees. As I said before, there's a GM, Agent, and Player involved that ALL have to play nice together.
http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/s...ould-protest-together-during-national-anthem/ Seahawks as a team may sit out anthem. Wow.
I wonder if any of these guys talking about sitting Sunday realize what the date is? Already by sitting there is a portion of the population that is going to turn against you can call you among other names un-patriotic. Sitting for the national anthem on 9/11 is likely to draw even more ire and backlash from large portions of the public.
David DeCastro, Steelers agree on new six-year deal David DeCastro was a first-team All-Pro and Pro Bowler in 2015, and is getting rewarded for his strong performance before the 2016 season kicks off. The offensive guard agreed to a six-year contract with the Steelers, the team announced Thursday. The new deal is worth $58.07 million, a source informed told NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport. The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette was the first to report the news. DeCastro was Pittsburgh's first-round selection in 2012, and has started in all but one game over the past three seasons along the Steelers' offensive line. After the 2016 campaign, DeCastro's five-year, $50 million extension will kick in. His new $10 million annual salary will be the second-highest among all NFL guards, only trailing Kelechi Osemele's $11.7 million per year deal this past offseason with the Raiders.
The Patriots will already be without Tom Brady Week 1 against the Cardinals on Sunday Night Football. Will they be without Rob Gronkowski as well? The league's best tight end expressed his uncertainty on Sunday -- as much as Gronkowski expresses anything -- when asked by reporters if a hamstring injury would sideline him against one of the league's premier defenses. "I want to be out there so badly to help my team," Gronkowski said, via NFL Network's Courtney Fallon. The tight end was limited Thursday at practice. As NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport noted, Sunday is certainly not a guarantee. Gronkowski injured his hamstring a little more than two weeks ago during a joint practice with the Bears, causing the Pro Bowler to yank himself from practice. Obviously, the team was overly cautious with their top offensive weapon and kept him from practice. There's a chance they will continue to take the safe route with Brady waiting out his suspension, especially given that Gronkowski is publicly admitting he???s not 100 percent. The Patriots have to play the long game here. If they plan on returning to the conference championship or Super Bowl, it would be extremely difficult to do so without Gronkowski slicing the middle of defenses wide open. A player averaging 77 catches, 1,150 yards and 12 touchdowns per season over the last two years isn't simply replaced in the lineup, even if the team took the liberty of signing Martellus Bennett in the offseason. The San Diego Chargers could be without No. 3 overall pick Joey Bosa for Week 1. Bosa sat out of Wednesday's practice, his second in pads this week. If the rookie suits up Sunday versus the Kansas City Chiefs, it will mark his first time in pads as a Charger. The last time Bosa donned pads was on New Year's Day in his final game with Ohio State. Bosa, for one, made it seem like his status for Sunday has already been decided. He told Marty Caswell of The Mighty 1090 on Wednesday that it's "frustrating and annoying" he won't play Sunday but "it is what it is." "I think obviously it's (you know) we're not optimistic right now, it's truly is a day to day injury," Chargers general manager Tom Telesco said Thursday on Hardwick & Richards on XTRA 1360 in San Diego. "It a minor hamstring but our goal is to make sure it doesn't turn into something long term. But I wouldn't say we're optimistic for this week but we've been preparing other players to play since July 29th, so that doesn't change. Now I know Joey's desire to play is very, very high but we need to be smart about it."
I might have to roll with Tyler Higbee in dynasty and Richard Rodgers in the Yeary league. Already going with Rodgers in my other dynasty thanks to Eifert being hurt.
Well at least he accomplished something last night..He seems to be more of a "me" guy, so he should be satisfied with that outcome.
Cam is all about himself and me, me, me. So happy to see him lose. Love the Denver crowd cheering "SUPER BOWL CHAMPIONS" when he shoved a Bronco player for getting the crowd riled up. Kind of weird seeing the segment on the Broncos all gathering in a room to open very large oversized boxes to get their SB Rings. The boxes were bigger than shoe boxes. All that for a ring?
http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/suspended-tom-brady-answers-questions-about-missing-helmet-decal/ omg - does the NFL and Goodell really hate Tom Brady that much to now bitch at a missing decal ?? Wow.
Pretty coincidental that a guy who's suspended and has an on-going feud with the league is the ONLY ONE who has a missing decal, no...?
So glad the season is here, maybe people can stop talking about off the field crap and just watch some football. 1 game down many more this weekend! *YAHOO*
SANTA CLARA, Calif. (AP) ? A police union says it is again encouraging its officers to work at San Francisco 49ers home games despite statements about police by quarterback Colin Kaepernick. But the union emphasizes that the task is optional for officers, and has been all along. The Santa Clara Police Officer's Association sent a letter to Mayor Lisa Gillmor on Thursday, saying it will encourage its officers to work the games. The letter thanked Gillmor for issuing a statement pointing out that the games are not a requirement. About 70 officers from the department work at each 49ers game and are paid as stadium security. Last week the union sent a letter to the 49ers saying some of its officers may boycott the games because of statements by Kaepernick about what he calls police brutality and racial injustice that have come with the quarterback's refusal to stand for the national anthem.
