Source: Titans to sign 49ers LB Azeez Al-Shaair

The Tennessee Titans are expected to sign San Francisco 49ers free agent linebacker Azeez Al-Shaair, a source told ESPN's Dianna Russini.

The addition of Al-Shaair comes a day after Titans free agent linebacker David Long Jr. agreed to a two-year contract with the Miami Dolphins.

After going undrafted in 2019, Al-Shaair earned a roster spot with the 49ers based on his special teams play. It didn't take him long to garner an expanded role, however, becoming a starting linebacker two years later. He played the 2022 season on a $3.9 million deal.
In the past two seasons, Al-Shaair, who turns 26 in August, has been an integral part of one of the best linebacker trios in the league, posting 146 tackles, two sacks and an interception in 25 regular-season games.

Al-Shaair played all three linebacker spots in San Francisco's defense but worked primarily on the strong side. He's played 57 games in four seasons with 199 tackles, 2 sacks, 2 forced fumbles, 3 fumble recoveries and 2 interceptions.

Report: Lions agree to terms with David Montgomery on three-year deal

The Lions have agreed to terms on a three-year, $18 million deal with free agent running back David Montgomery, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports. It includes $11 million guaranteed.

Montgomery ranked 85th on PFT’s list of top-100 free agents.

Montgomery, 25, spent four seasons with the Bears after they made him a second-round pick.

He rushed for 3,609 yards and 26 touchdowns, while catching 155 passes for 1,240 yards and four touchdowns.

His best season came in 2020 when he had 1,508 yards from scrimmage, including 1,070 rushing.

The Lions will team Montgomery with D’Andre Swift, which means Jamaal Williams will find a new home in free agency.

This caught me by surprise. Monty is good, Swift is good... Williams is going to split, but hell the Lions back-field looks pretty good.

Monty on my fantasy team being on the Lions is something i have to consider now in my L4SN fantasy team... I dont know who RB1 is anymore. And yes, the NFL needs to consider my fantasy life when they make decisions. ;)

After the Bears lost Montgomery, they did this...

    Per; PFT

The Bears lost David Montgomery. They are adding Travis Homer.

Homer has agreed to a two-year deal, Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports.

Homer, 24, was a backup running back and core special teams player for the Seahawks for four seasons after they made him a sixth-round selection.

He played a career-high 27 percent of the offensive snaps in 2022, while playing 50 percent of the special teams snaps. Homer played 67 percent of the special teams snaps in 2021.

In his career, Homer has 135 touches for 917 yards and three touchdowns.

Cowboys inform Ezekiel Elliott he is being released

Running back Ezekiel Elliott is about to become a free agent.

NFL Media reports that the Cowboys have informed Elliott that he is being released. The move has been expected for some time and a report on Wednesday morning indicated that it might come at the start of the new league year on Wednesday afternoon.

According to multiple reports, the move will be processed as a post-June 1 cut. The Cowboys will see $10.9 million in cap relief as a result and they’ll be left with $5.82 million in dead money on this year’s cap.

Elliott ranks third in Cowboys history in rushing attempts, rushing yards, and rushing touchdowns after spending the last seven seasons in Dallas. He posted career lows in attempts, yards, and yards per attempt in 2022 and the Cowboys used their franchise tag on Tony Pollard in a clear signal about the future of the position.

JuJu Smith-Schuster is heading to New England.

The Patriots have agreed to sign Smith-Schuster, according to multiple reports.

Smith-Schuster will reportedly get $33 million over three years, in the same $11 million per year range that free agent receivers Jakobi Meyers and Alan Lazard agreed to this week. (The precise structure of the contracts is not yet known.)

The 26-year-old Smith-Schuster played for the Steelers from 2017 to 2021, and played last year with the Chiefs.

Interesting for my L4SN fantasy team when my RB1 and RB2 both get moved... one with the Lions, one to FA. Might be a good thing, ,because both Montgomery and Zeke have frustrated me, so maybe on new teams I'll catch a break.

Lots of interesting dynasty implications this off-season.

I think more than one roster is going to come out of this weekend with an obvious difference in where their 2023 power ranking should begin...

    Browns doing some business...

The team announced the release of defensive end Jadeveon Clowney and safety John Johnson. Both moves were expected and were designated as post-June 1 moves in order to spread the cap hit out over 2024 as well.

Clowney was not under contract for the 2023 season, but had voidable years in his contract and Wednesday’s move was a procedural one due to the cap implications. He was sent home from practice during the final week of the regular season and benched for the regular season finale.

Clowney had 65 tackles, 11 sacks, three forced fumbles, and a fumble recovery in two seasons with the Browns.

Johnson’s release was reported some time ago and the team confirmed he would be let go at the start of the new league year while they were at the the Scouting Combine.

The Eagles lost Javon Hargrave, but they have managed to keep Fletcher Cox.

The defensive lineman turned down more lucrative offers, giving the Eagles a “hometown discount,” Adam Schefter of ESPN reports. Cox agreed to a one-year, $10 million contract.

Cox ranks 28th on PFT’s list of top-100 free agents.

Cox, 32, entered the NFL as a first-round pick of the Eagles in 2012, and he has spent all 11 seasons of his NFL career in Philadelphia.

He has made six Pro Bowls, the last time in 2020, and once was All-Pro.

In his career, Cox has 486 tackles, 65 sacks, 156 quarterback hits, 14 pass breakups and 15 forced fumbles.

Mike Garafolo reported that (presumably former) Falcons CB Isaiah Oliver has signed with San Francisco. So far no official word from the 49ers along those lines though - just tweets from fan-related outlets, and they can't even agree on whether it's allegedly a one-year or two-year deal.

If it turns out he has agreed to join the 49ers, that will officially close the books on Atlanta's 2018 draft. No one remains from the 2016 or 2017 drafts, Oliver was the last man standing from 2018, and only the two first rounders remain from 2019.

But so far, everyone drafted in 2021-2022 is still with the organization, and the only two players from the 2020 draft who have been released to this point were injury cases.

Its not that puzzling really, especially for the Bears. Just your standard GM incompetence.

    Ridiculously bad roster management.
