Well, I hear ya, but i think when Jimmy is on the field the Raiders will have a QB with a better winning %, better completion % and a higher QBR. Of course thats just stats talk, but I believe if the system/scheme around him suits him, he will succeed. Im not a Josh McDaniels fan and I think he's more of a detriment than an enhancer, so many variables are involved.
I haven't watched enough of Richardson to give you an honest answer one way or the other, unfortunately, Tim. I'm happy to have one year where I don't have to worry about QB's, finally. I also haven't scouted everyone enough to have a "big board", really. And the value of the QB position really skews everything. If I'm drafting a QB, I want that fifth year, so I'd take him in the first round if I felt he was ever actually going to be a starter. I'm sure his combine performance will get someone to take him early. I think it just needs to be a team where he'll get to sit for a bit. It's incredibly rare that a QB comes in and is a different player than he was in college, year one. I don't want that Richardson starting for my NFL team. We'll see if year 2 or 3 Richardson is a different story.
The day isn't over yet... add LB Kaden Elliss to the list. Reports are coming in that the Falcons have agreed to terms on a 3-year deal with the former Saints linebacker.
Eric Kendricks says he’s joining the Chargers Cut last week by the Vikings, linebacker Eric Kendricks already has a new home. He posted on social media that he’ll be joining the L.A. Chargers. Kendricks, a second-round pick of the Vikings in 2015, played college football at UCLA. He’s a native of Clovis, California, and he played high-school football in Fresno. He was a first-team All-Pro in 2019. The Vikings made the decision to move on from Kendricks after eight years with the team. Kendricks will return to Minnesota at some point during the 2023 season, under the schedule rotation. He’ll also get another trip to Lambeau Field; the Chargers will play at Green Bay, too. PFT
How much salary cap space the Bears have after first day of free agency The Chicago Bears made a splash on the first day of the free agency negotiation window, agreeing to terms with four players. The Bears signed linebackers Tremaine Edmunds (four years, $71 million) and T.J. Edwards (three years, $19.5 million), as well as offensive guard Nate Davis (three years, $30 million). And, believe it or not, Chicago still has the most salary cap space in the NFL after the first day of action. According to Spotrac, the Bears still have $50.8 million in cap space with the Edwards, Edmunds and Davis moves factored in. The total doesn’t include Walker’s contract — as the full details aren’t out yet — but Chicago is still going to be in a favorable position when all is said and done. As for the 2023 cap hits for those individual players, Edmunds will account for $14.68 million, Davis for $7 million and Edwards for $5 million. Heading into Day 2 of the negotiation period, general manager Ryan Poles still has plenty of work to do with the roster. There are still needs on the defensive and offensive lines — at three-technique and right tackle — where there are some intriguing names still on the market. YAHOO/BEARSWIRE
Report: Jets working to sign Allen Lazard Jets cornerback Sauce Gardner suggested there might be some package deals in place if his team lands quarterback Aaron Rodgers and the team is reportedly working on making one happen despite the fact that Rodgers has yet to reveal his intentions for 2023. Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that the Jets are working on a deal with wide receiver Allen Lazard. Lazard and Rodgers have been Packers teammates since Lazard joined the team in 2018. Jets offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett also coached both players from 2019 to 2021. Schefter adds that another team is also working to sign Lazard and that nothing is final at this point, but one would imagine that the Jets’ interest in Lazard is tied to the possibility that Rodgers will be running their offense. While Rodgers hasn’t shared his thoughts on that with the general public, a private conversation or two with his longtime teammate would likely have some sway on where Lazard winds up playing in 2023. PFT __________ ____________________ This is interesting. Earlier reports about and from, Lazard said he was waiting for Rodgers decision before he made his decision on where to go. Now the Jets are trying to real in Lazard, so in my opinion, one of two things may be occurring. Either the Jets are trying to 'lure' Rodgers to make up his mind about signing in NY or Rodgers has already informed Lazard he will eventually. Its really a damn shame that Rodgers seems to be lollygagging at other teams expenses... no need for this kinda stuff. There is zero doubt in my mind that Rodgers already knows himself if he's going to retire or play somewhere other than Green Bay.
Buccaneers to trade Shaq Mason to Texans The Buccaneers have found a trade partner for offensive guard Shaq Mason. Per multiple reports, Tampa Bay is sending Mason to Houston in a deal that will also see the teams swap late-round picks. The Buccaneers will get a Texans sixth-round selection while Houston will receive a Tampa Bay seventh-round pick. It’s the second year in a row that Mason, who turns 30 in August, has been traded. New England sent him to Tampa Bay last offseason for a fifth-round pick. Mason ended up starting all 17 games for the Bucs, playing 99 percent of the club’s offensive snaps. A fourth-round pick of the 2015 draft, Mason has appeared in 120 games with 115 starts in his eight seasons. Texans General Manager Nick Caserio was the Patriots’ director of player personnel when the team drafted Mason. PFT
Jakobi Meyers agrees to three-year deal with Raiders General Manager Dave Ziegler and head coach Josh McDaniels are bringing another familiar face to Las Vegas. Receiver Jakobi Meyers has agreed to a three-year deal with the Raiders worth $33 million with $21 million guaranteed, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Media. Having entered the league as an undrafted free agent in 2019, Mayers spent his first four seasons with the Patriots. He led the team’s inconsistent offense last year with 67 catches, 804 yards, and six touchdowns. Meyers, 26, was tendered at the second-round level as a restricted free agent last year. He will now reunite with McDaniels, who called Meyers’ plays for his first three seasons as New England’s offensive coordinator. In 60 games with 39 starts, Meyers has 235 receptions for 2,758 yards with eight touchdowns. PFT
Seahawks expected to sign former Broncos DT Dre'Mont Jones to three-year, $51 million deal The Seahawks plan to make life a little more nightmarish for opposing quarterbacks. Seattle is expected to sign defensive tackle Dre'Mont Jones to a three-year, $51 million contract, NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport and NFL Network's James Palmer reported. Rapoport added that Jones will receive $23.5 million in Year 1 of the new deal. Jones, ranked as Gregg Rosenthal's No. 7 free agent on his top 101, has 22 career sacks and tied his career high with 6.5 in 2022 ahead of his first taste of free agency. Although he missed the final month of the season due to injury, Jones was the fifth-ranked interior lineman in quarterback pressures through 13 weeks. His game-breaking prowess through the middle of the line marries well with a Seattle defense that already tied for seventh in the league with 45 sacks last season. The letdown on that side of the ball came in points scored (25th in the NFL), but adding Jones to bring the boom is a shrewd step in rectifying that. NFL.com
And this also... Just bring over the entire Packers offense for Rodgers, why dont ya. Throw in some extra cheese too.
Saints plan to keep Michael Thomas on new one-year contract Michael Thomas may be staying in New Orleans after all. Thomas, the highly talented but injury-prone wide receiver who appeared to be on the verge of being released, is now likely to stay with the Saints on a one-year contract, according to multiple reports. Thomas was the NFL’s Offensive Player of the Year in 2019, when he caught 149 passes for 1,725 yards. But he has played a total of just 10 games in three seasons since then, as injuries have derailed his career. The financials of Thomas’s one-year contract have not been reported, but a player who was thought to be on the way out now appears to be staying with the Saints for at least another year. PFT
Raiders trade Darren Waller to Giants for a third-round pick The Giants’ offense is adding another weapon in the form of tight end Darren Waller. The Raiders are trading Waller to the Giants for a third-round draft pick, according to multiple reports. Trades cannot become official until the start of the league year tomorrow, but both sides have agreed to the deal. When healthy Waller has been one of the best tight ends in the NFL, with back-to-back 1,100-yard seasons in 2019 and 2020. But he played in only 11 games in 2021 and only nine in 2022. He also has a $12 million salary cap hit this season, another reason the Raiders may have decided to move on. The Giants, however, think they’ve already got their offense heading in the right direction with franchise quarterback Daniel Jones, and now they’re adding a tight end to the mix as they hope to take a big step forward in 2023. PFT ________ _________________ Always liked Waller. Surprised to see him traded to be honest, but its Cap necessary and some injuries didnt help his cause. A 3rd round pick isnt too shabby either.
Report: Allen Lazard agrees to four-year, $44 million deal with Jets The Jets don’t yet have the quarterback they seek, but they are getting some of Aaron Rodgers‘ former teammates in place. Earlier Tuesday came news that the Jets were working on deals to sign former Packers receivers Allen Lazard and Randall Cobb. They now have a deal in place with Lazard, per Jordan Schultz of theScore.com, with the sides agreeing to a four-year, $44 million contract with $22 million guaranteed. Lazard, 27, is coming off his best season, with 60 catches for 788 yards and six touchdowns in 15 games. In five seasons in Green Bay, he made 169 receptions for 2,236 yards and 20 touchdowns. He joins a receiving corps that already includes Garrett Wilson and Elijah Moore. PFT
Broncos, Samaje Perine agree to two-year deal $7.5 million, according to NFL Media’s Mike Garafolo. The contract includes another $1 million available in incentives.
Dallas is acquiring cornerback Stephon Gilmore from the Colts in exchange for a 2023 fifth-round pick, NFL Network Insiders Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero reported.
