Bears' David Montgomery responds to contract talk rumors

No upcoming Bears free agent has been discussed more in recent weeks than David Montgomery. Should the Bears re-sign him? Shell out whatever it takes to bring in Saquon Barkley? Or avoid the position completely in free agency to move ahead with Khalil Herbert and an incoming rookie?

Amid all the talk have been discussions about how much money Montgomery might ask for in negotiations with Ryan Poles. On Thursday, however, Montgomery told fans to ignore the chatter.

By all accounts, the Bears want to re-sign David Montgomery and Montgomery wants to re-sign with the Bears. But that was the story with Roquan Smith last season, and the two sides were never able to find common ground. If the same happens with Montgomery, the team will have to look elsewhere to fill out their running back room, since Herbert and Trestan Ebner are the only other RBs under contract for 2023.

Montgomery proved to be the Bears best pass blocker and pass catcher among all their running backs in 2022. In addition, he was the go-to guy in short yardage situations, or in the low red zone.

Over his four years with the Bears, Montgomery has run for 3,609 yards on 915 carries and scored 26 rushing touchdowns. He’s got 155 catches for 1,240 receiving yards and four touchdowns, too.

Travis Kelce and Chiefs take note of ‘Burrowhead’ bulletin-board material

It’s a near-overboard tale of motivation, underdogs and bulletin-board material as the Cincinnati Bengals get ready to play the Kansas City Chiefs in the AFC title game.

The Bengals have comfortably sat in the underdog role and found motivation from it over the course of two AFC title game appearances in as many years.

But the Bengals suddenly found themselves briefly favored over the Chiefs in this year’s conference championship due to Patrick Mahomes’ injured ankle.

The Chiefs are also finding inspiration in a funny quote thrown out by Bengals cornerback Mike Hilton on the sideline during last week’s win over the Bills.

Hilton called Kansas City’s Arrowhead Stadium “Burrowhead” instead, and Chiefs players like Travis Kelce have called it out:

As always, athletes find anything and everything to be motivated by, so this comes as no surprise. It’s just another small layer to a rivalry that has become something special over the last two seasons.

Here’s the clip featuring Hilton’s comment, for what it’s worth:

    Panthers hire Frank Reich.

If nothing else, he's used to not knowing who the fuck his team is going to have available at QB from year to year.

Panthers drafted Matt Corral last season and he’s been on IR. Won’t be at all surprised if he forces a QB competition, or if he’s cut in final cut downs. Panthers should draft a QB early regardless.

And sign a free agent. And then have the free agent suddenly retire and the high draft pick get hurt and Corral get hurt again, leaving Reich to work with whatever QBs the GM can find on the clearance rack at Filene's Basement. But... he's used to it.

    Devonte Smith, wtf!

That wasn’t a catch, that’s why Smith was signaling to the offense to get on the ball before it could get challenged. When you get to see the replay later after it’s too late to challenge the ball clearly moved on the ground.

The Philadelphia Eagles defeated the San Francisco 49ers, 31-7, on Championship Sunday to advance to Super Bowl LVII.

It is the second game this postseason in which the Eagles defense surrendered only a single touchdown to their opponent, as the Niners dealt with uncertainty at the quarterback position throughout the game. San Francisco saw Brock Purdy leave with an elbow injury only to be forced to return when backup Josh Johnson was concussed.

Philadelphia previously blew out the New York Giants, 38-7, in the Divisional Round, and is rolling to the Super Bowl for the first time since it won it all in 2017, making Philly just the fourth team all time to appear in multiple Super Bowls in a six-year span with a different head coach and starting quarterback.

The Eagles will face the winner of the AFC Championship Game between the Cincinnati Bengals and Kansas City Chiefs in Glendale, Arizona in two weeks.

I would have thought the Eagles and 49ers would have been a defensive game and the Bengals and Chiefs the opposite, but , nope.

Honestly it was weird. I had weird dreams all week the game already started and the Eagles had a poor start or even lost. But when game time came around I was hardly worried. Some excited shouts but honestly it felt inevitable as the game started going even before Purdy got hurt and just had to hope the team didn't beat themselves. PRobably the fact it appeared like a good matchup was why I felt the choke was possible in my sleep.

Bring on the Chiefs. I feel good but it doesn't seem inevitable so I should sleep fine.

85 for the Bengals just broke their hearts by giving Mahomes that extra push when he was clearly out of bounds to help them get in fg range,I don't think he can explain that away DUMMY,Eagles vrs Chiefs Eagles all the way

So... Shanahan blows it on the openings after all. He really, really should have thrown the challenge flag on that fourth down "catch" on the opening scoring drive. Not saying that would have prevented Purdy's injury or anything, but it was a clear coaching blunder that cost his team a possession and put them behind by a touchdown straight out of the gate.

Kinda weird that a coach can consistently build effective teams and already have an impressive coaching "tree" at such a young age - yet repeatedly botch game management in the biggest games.
