So Tyrod Taylor just got a contract that's pretty much a one year deal if he doesn't light it up, yet that one year is still more than the two combined years he had left under contract.

Did you read the first part of my post? The Center market has been stagnant for years.

  3. beachbum M.V.P. Manager Steelers

He'd be my choice. I don't care if he knew 25% of the plays. He'd give them a better chance to win.

Much more and an opportunity to reach free agency a year early.

    "Don't eat yellow snow."

Now we've both given out totally unrelated advice.

I fully agree. But it's one of the most player friendly moves I've seen in awhile. He still gets a nice raise this year, and if he flops, he walks with the money and some other QB needy team pays him assuming it was a one year hiccup. I don't see how Buffalo benefited in any way

I don't totally disagree but I guess they believe he is only going to get better and then they'll have him locked up as only the 16th highest paid QB in the NFL. He did have a heck of a season...

14 gms 63.7% comp rate, 3,000yds 99.4 QB rating, 600 yds rushing, 24 Total TDs only 7 turnovers.

Well, maybe you need that reminder because you've eaten a lot of yellow snow in the past...?

I'll translate for you: just because something has been a certain way in the past, DOESN'T mean it's going to continue that way in the future.

  10. beachbum M.V.P. Manager Steelers

Oh I know what you meant but it's pointless. Heck, if the Cowboys operated that way they would wait until the last minute to sign him. After all, just because he was an All Pro in 2015 doesn't mean he'll be an All-Pro in 2016. He could play like hot garbage this year right? In the world where "past performance doesn't guarantee future results"?

  11. AxeMurderer Legend Cowboys

Of course - why pay ANYONE in advance because they could turn into a dumpster fire at the drop of a hat.

  12. beachbum M.V.P. Manager Steelers

Exactly. Your answer was cheap. It could be applied to any contract discussion.

My point stands. When Ryan Kalil signed in 2011 to become the highest paid Center he received 8.2M per season. Since that time the "new" highest paid center has earned:

    2014 Pouncey 8.8M
    2016 Hudson 8.9M
    2016 Pouncey 8.95M
    2016 Mack 9.0M

And the chances of anyone topping Mack between now and next August is slim to none. All the top guys are locked up. Could there be some savings? Maybe but unlikely so the reward for paying him a year early doesn't appear to be great. The risk in doing so seems pretty great. A career-ending injury now costs them 18M vs the 1.5M max injury settlement he could have achieved next year had they done nothing.

Obviously you're a Cowboys fan but even if you weren't I'm fine with disagreeing with you. Just bring more to the discussion than things can change. Of course they can.

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. (AP) ? Tight end Rob Gronkowski left the first day of joint practices between the Patriots and Bears on Monday with an apparent lower-body issue.

Gronkowski made awkward cut while running a route during 7-on-7 drills. He grimaced after the play and paused briefly before jogging back gingerly to rejoin his teammates.

Gronkowski was led back to the locker room by a trainer and did not return.

Later, tempers flared between Patriots cornerback Malcolm Butler and Bears receiver Alshon Jeffery, leading to an extended shoving match. It intensified into about a 30-second scrum after teammates intervened. Both players were ejected from practice.

A shorter incident occurred toward the end of the workout between Patriots lineman Nate Solder and Chicago linebacker Lamarr Houston.

The NFL has said the four linebackers being investigated for an alleged link to performance-enhancing drugs will be suspended, if they don't agree to be interviewed by the league in the next 10 days.

NFL senior vice president of labor policy and league affairs Adolpho Birch sent a letter Monday to the NFL Players Association detailing the plan to suspend James Harrison of the Pittsburgh Steelers, Clay Matthews and Julius Peppers of the Green Bay Packers and free agent Mike Neal if they don't speak with the league by Aug. 25. Their punishment would then start the following day.

Birch's memo to the union was obtained by The Associated Press, according to a person with knowledge of the investigation who was not authorized to speak publicly about it. (AP)

Denver starting DE Vance Walker is out for the season after suffering a torn ACL Monday. Malik Jackson walked in FA so now they have to turn to one of 3 players that haven't played for the team yet: Jared Crick, Adam Gotsis or Billy Winn. Kenny Anunike was waived a week ago. Gotsis was a 2nd round pick this year but he is coming off a torn ACL. I would expect that Crick gets the starting job as he has the most experience and was relatively reliable with the Texans.

If anyone's answer was cheap, it was yours - going under this ridiculous assumption that because things have been a certain way for several years that they're going to CONTINUE to stay on that path.

Because there could be no other "top" guy emerge in the next year or two, right? You gonna lie and tell me you saw Travis Frederick being a top center when Dallas drafted him...?

    Okay, dad - I'll try.

In the meantime, could you buy me a stick of gum and show me how to chew it...?

    Thats a big time loss.

Philadelphia officially announced the trade acquisition of Dorial Green-Beckham from the Tennessee Titans in exchange for backup Eagles lineman Dennis Kelly.

Interesting deal. DGB's got upside, but he's also got a lot of diva in him.

Kelly was a decent 4-position backup but he isn't reliable. I don't know if he would have stuck around past this year. The Eagles will probably miss the depth some but it will get the rookies and Wisniewski more time. All in all it was a cheap trade for Philly and the Titans dumped someone they probably simply don't like in the room for a player that will see time on the field.
