Cam is a good dude, he just needs to tone it down... a lot. Yes, he's annoying as hell.

The Bills announced on their official website that they've agreed to a long-term extension with Tyrod Taylor. According to Tim Graham of the Buffalo News, the deal runs six years and is worth $90 million, but could be worth more with incentives. The contract also contains team options.

    That's a solid commitment.

I'm not sure that I'm on board with that one. I'll have to do some thinking on it.

Thats one hell of a contract. I hope it pans out. They must think very highly of him.

Okay so this is what I'm getting from multiple sources.

Tyrod Taylor's deal is $92M over 6; $90M over 5 in new cash.
    Only $9.5M guaranteed, BUT...
    $37M in injury guarantees.
If option is picked up, $40.25M is fully guaranteed.

Tyrod Taylor's deal is complex. So, 2016 is apparently fully guaranteed, but after that there is a lot of prove-it clauses.

So is there incentive for him to get injured if he thinks he will get cut?

So it could be a 1 year deal and if he hits his incentives and the Bills retain him after this year it basically becomes a 3-year deal, so a 2-yr extension and after that if the Bills wich they have him at 3 years $42M dollars at what could possibly be well below market value at that point if he pans out.

    Or as Breer said it:
So for Taylor, as a practical matter, this is a 1-year, $9.5M deal or a 3-year, $50M deal. Bills control from '19-'21 at a total of $42M.

That's kind of convoluted... Has there been anything recent that would mirror that?

Report: Bosa feels Chargers have caused ?irreparable damage?

Joey Bosa has held out longer than any first-round draft pick since the new collective bargaining agreement went into place, and it appears there is no end in sight in his standoff with the San Diego Chargers.

According to Bleacher Report?s Jason Cole, negotiations between Bosa and the Chargers have ?turned ugly? and the two sides have not spoken in weeks.

?Bosa feels there is irreparable damage that has been done with the relationship between the team and him,? Cole said. ?The fact is the Chargers have not called back in nearly two weeks after Bosa?s agents gave the team a proposal. Bosa feels like he has been disrespected in this whole process and forced to take what the Chargers offered.?

Cole adds that Bosa believes the Chargers have made a ?calculated? and ?unfair? effort to get him to give in to their demands by having players like Antonio Gates come out publicly and say the former Ohio State star needs to show up to camp.

The issue between the Chargers and Bosa has to do with signing bonus money. While the new CBA is supposed to make rookie contracts fairly cut-and-dry, Bosa is unhappy that the Chargers want to defer some of his bonus money. The No. 3 overall pick wants all of his signing bonus up front.

While it would be a surprise if a deal is not eventually agreed upon, comments like the ones Bosa?s mother made give you a good idea of the current state of the relationship.

I really hate when rookies pull this crap. He needs to go out and prove he's a pro talent, and the way it's starting, his attitude isn't what I'd want from a "team" guy.

Let him ride the pine for the season. F him.

    Ha!

Well having only read about it the first two that come to mind are the Kaepernick and Cutler contracts. Neither player received much of a signing bonus and they both contained the kind of shit-or-get-off-the-pot trigger dates that it sounds like Tyrod has. Those options almost always come in early March, prior to free agency.

Basically, the Bills have to pick up the option or let Tyrod test free agency and then compete with everyone else to sign him. Cutler's deal not only guaranteed the option year but a portion of the following year when picked up.

Spotrac has some info up. OTC doesn't have it yet.

    Year 1: 9.5M base
Year 2: 15.5M option bonus (early March), 12M base (guaranteed)
    Year 3: 13M base

Nothing else listed after Year 3 which is reportedly the Bills' option years.

Definitely a win-win contract. Tyrod was under contract through 2017 for 3.2M (2M '16, 1.2M '17). Now he gets 9.5M this year and 27.5M next year if Buffalo picks up the option next March. If they choose not to he reaches free agency a year earlier than he was scheduled to.

For Buffalo, if they believe he's really their future they are only making him the 15th highest paid player at the position which sounds commensurate to his ability. But we all know these QBs are often paid way more than they appear to be worth. If Tyrod repeats his '15 performance he probably could have demanded 20M per season next year.

Both sides win on this one - if you believe in paying QBs that much money which I'm slowly beginning to understand. The market is the market I guess but damn is it insane money.

Well, maybe the Chargers should just pay him the $17M up front and try not to defer it through other language and loopholes.

Thanks, beachbum, for a cogent breakdown of a very complex contract.

Bills fans have been waiting since the last millennium for a QB. If Tyrod is that man then this is a bargain. The team has gone out on the hope-and-prayer limb with some unworthy QB's a few times in this era of futility. At least if Tyrod proves to be a bust the Bills can cut bait and move on.

Jim Kelly would win a race for King of Buffalo. If Tyrod earns the full contract then he may be proclaimed Emperor.

  17. Mid Iowa Guest

Well, maybe, and maybe not. He has proven exactly zero to this point.

Didn't Fitzpatrick have a couple good years for the Bills? As soon as he got his contract I know he went downhill. Bledsoe led the league his first year with the Bills. They've had good QB play, the problem is they haven't had anything consistent. Hopefully Tyrod gives them that.

Carson Wentz sits out Eagles practice with sore ribs

Carson Wentz's first preseason tilt left him a little sore.

The Philadelphia Eagles rookie quarterback sat out during Saturday morning practice. Coach Doug Pederson said Wentz was dealing with "sore ribs" and didn't throw, but isn't concerned about the first-round pick's health moving forward.

When asked if Wentz would play in Thursday's tilt versus the Pittsburgh Steelers, Pederson replied: "Yes, yes, yes."

Wentz was under severe pressure in the preseason opener versus the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. While he wasn't sacked, the rookie was hit several times -- some of the bone-crushing variety -- was flushed from a collapsing pocket on multiple occasions and even flipped over a defender on a fourth-quarter zone-read play.

It's not a surprise he's sore, given the hits he took. At 6-foot-5, 237 pounds, he can take a beating and keep getting up -- a la Andrew Luck or Cam Newton. One off-day to heal up is nothing to be concerned about at this stage. (NFL.com)

Ricky Williams? He received very little guaranteed money and was heavy on the incentives. Of course it turned out bad for him but it may be similar to the above contracts.
