This reminds me a lot of when you are in a hurry and have to do a drive-through lunch, so you stop by (insert favorite fast food joint) at 12:05 and realize, after waiting 10 minutes, that they were apparently surprised by the lunch rush... again... Heads are going to roll (and should) over this massive blunder.
i read the painting in the end-zone congealed together. gross. it's 1 game and they can't get ready for it on time? lame.
I think you are all confused... The turf that "caused" injuries from the past is gone...that turf came from the Super Dome years ago...however, the HOF replaced it with brand new turf this year and it was approved both, when it was installed AND AGAIN the day of this game when the cover was removed. Rubber pellets are normal with today's best turf. That is what softens the blow. If any of you played on astroturf, or the turf from 20 years ago, you would know it was like landing on concrete. That is so far from today's technology where it is in many cases softer than real grass..in part due to the rubber pellets incorporated into the turf. What happened here will cost a couple of people their jobs...I don't even know if it is the HOF or the League who mandates the grounds crew. But, whomever ordered the paint to do the logos at midfield and the end zones ordered the wrong type of paint. Just an FYI, it is common to do the painting the day before a game for a day game and the day of the game for a night game, so that it is as fresh and vibrant as possible. The paint basically melted the rubber pellets and made it one solid flat mat that was hard as a rock and they could not get it broken apart well enough to play last night. It had nothing to do with rushing to get the field ready and not doing it properly...this came down to chemistry and spraying the wrong chemical (the paint) on this surface. They most likely ordered the same paint they have in the past, which was used on old technology turf and no one bothered to check that the new turf needed something different... In the end, a couple of people will lose their jobs, but this really shouldn't be a black eye on the league or the HOF as a whole, but an incompetent worker or two..
Cleveland Browns name Robert Griffin III starting QB Robert Griffin III is back atop a depth chart for the first time in more than a year. The former Offensive Rookie of the Year and No. 2 overall pick was named Cleveland's starting quarterback Monday in an announcement made by the club. Coach Hue Jackson had hoped to name a permanent starter before the team's first preseason game against the Green Bay Packers on Friday. "It's time," Jackson said in the release. "Robert has earned the right to be named the starting quarterback of the Cleveland Browns. Since he was signed back in March, Robert has made it clear through his actions that he is willing to do everything that has been asked of him to earn this role. Throughout this process he has gained the respect from his teammates, the coaching staff and the entire organization that is necessary for him to lead our offense and really the entire team. "(Offensive coordinator) Pep (Hamilton) has done an outstanding job with that room to get us to this point so we can make this decision at what I feel is the optimal time which enables us to best prepare for the regular season," Jackson continued. "It's now on Robert to show the organization and our fans that this is the right decision. For his part, Griffin called it an "honor" and told reporters he never doubted he could be an NFL starter again.
Dolphins list Jay Ajayi as starting RB over Arian Foster Arian Foster was described last week by The Miami Herald's Armando Salguero as playing "head and shoulders" above any other running back on the Dolphins' roster. This came just days after first-year coach Adam Gase told the newspaper that Foster, the former Houston Texans star, was "going to be working with the ones the whole training camp." We still see Foster as the club's most reliable runner, but Miami's first official depth chart has the veteran notched behind second-year back Jay Ajayi, who was listed as the Dolphins' No. 1 back. August depth charts don't mean much, especially in a backfield certain to use both Foster and Ajayi in spurts. While the Dolphins still believe in Ajayi -- who recently bounced back from a knee injury -- Miami wouldn't have pursued Foster if they felt confident with their stable of backs to begin with. How these two perform in preseason tilts against the Giants, Cowboys, Falcons and Titans will have much more impact on the pecking order than an early August press release.
Suis was lost because he was trying to make a tackle he had no business trying to make it was a meaningless game. Even if field conditions were bad it was still his foolish attempt that landed him on IR and cost him his job.
Jordan Matthews (knee) out couple of weeks for Eagles When Philadelphia hosts the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Thursday night, Eagles wideout Jordan Matthews won't be on the field. Coach Doug Pederson announced Monday that the third-year receiver will miss a couple of weeks with knee soreness. The hope is that Matthews will be ready to play in Philly's critical third preseason tilt against the Indianapolis Colts.
Julian Edelman left Tuesday's practice after suffering another leg injury, but the New England Patriots got some positive news. NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reports that based on initial exams, the injury is not believed to be serious, per a source. Edelman's status will be updated as more news leaks. The receiver injured himself during a one-on-one drill, then took himself off the field, slamming his helmet on the ground. He then had his lower leg examined by Pats trainers on the field before walking off under his own power, NFL Media's Courtney Fallon reported. The initial news of the injury caused a collective groan from New England fans. The Patriots' top receiver was taken off the physically unable to perform list on Sunday, a move that came earlier than expected. Edelman broke his foot last season and underwent a second surgery on his left foot in May.
Lane Johnson facing 10-game suspension for PEDs The Philadelphia Eagles are in danger of losing one of their best offensive linemen for a majority of the 2016 season. Lane Johnson is facing a 10-game suspension for violating the league's policy on performance-enhancing drugs, a source informed of the situation told NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport. Johnson was previously suspended four games for a PED violation back in 2014. The news was first reported by Darren DeGaetano of WIP-FM in Philadelphia. Johnson is appealing, according to Rapoport, but at the moment the Eagles are staring down the possibility of starting Dennis Kelly or rookie Halapoulivaati Vaitai for more than half the season. While Philly's quick-strike offense should negate the loss slightly, Johnson was looked at as one of the ascending players on the roster and a luxury to run behind. The Eagles ranked No. 2 in the NFL last year in plays run off the outside shoulder of the right tackle (84), with an average gain of 4.55 yards per play. Johnson signed a six-year, $66.1 million deal in January.

Mark Sanchez to start for Broncos in preseason opener While Mark Sanchez and Trevor Siemian sit atop the Denver Broncos depth chart as co-No. 1 quarterbacks, only one can start Thursday's preseason opener against the Chicago Bears. Sanchez gets the nod to open the preseason, the team announced Tuesday. He is expected to play the entire first quarter followed by Siemian in the second quarter. Rookie Paxton Lynch will play the second half. During his news conference earlier in the day, coach Gary Kubiak was mum on whether Sanchez or Siemian would get the start, saying only that they would play during the first half. As the only quarterback on the roster with starting experience, it's not a surprise Kubiak will start off with Sanchez. However, the 29-year-old has not pulled away from the pack in offseason workouts. Sanchez will have to fend off Siemian and first-round pick Paxton Lynch to be named the starter to open the regular season. Siemian, a seventh-round pick in 2015, has impressed coaches throughout the offseason. Lynch owns the most raw talent of the trio, but needs to show progress with the playbook and managing the huddle. Still, it wouldn't be a shock if the rookie were able to leapfrog up the depth chart with strong preseason performances. Kubiak noted Monday he's not close to determining a Week 1 starter. (NFL.com)
I don't think this is accurate. This very turf came from the Super Dome this off season. Of course, it will now need to be replaced, but it was only 1 season old.
Edelman returned to practice for the Patriots - Good news for them Pats fans. Their going to need him.
Reggie Ragland (ACL) expected to miss 2016 season Bills linebacker Reggie Ragland is going under the knife later this week for surgery on his torn ACL, and Buffalo isn't optimistic about the rookie's prospects in 2016. The team confirmed Wednesday that Ragland's knee will likely sideline him for the entire season. Coach Rex Ryan's defense was starving for capable inside linebackers and Ragland most certainly fit the bill. Instead, the defensive minded coach will roll with Brandon Spikes and David Hawthorne, a pair of veterans the team signed this week. Hawthorne has spent time with Rob Ryan and the Saints, while Spikes has worked in versatile 3-4 fronts before and should find a home in Rex Ryan's defense. (NFL.com)
