Are there better options for 'Boys than Josh McCown? Interesting anyway... http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap30...here-better-options-for-boys-than-josh-mccown
There in lies the problem...They already "missed out" on Foles. Honestly, I don't think the Browns are very interested in moving McCown, so I'm not sure this gets done anyway.
Doesn't mean anything if he can't play - and he can't. He's awful. The guy has thrown 100 balls and 6 were picked off.
Seriously though, those might be the 4 guys you are looking at. And with that list I would order them Jackson, Yates, Flynn, Whitehurst. Jackson is a veteran and he has a pretty good arm, and I'm just a fan. Yates was able to put a couple of good games together in Houston, has game experience and an ok option for a start or two. Flynn? He's a veteran and has really been living on his one big game when he was with the Packers, but hasn't been able to stick since. He was handed the starting job in Oakland and Seattle only to lose it prior to opening day, he's been with quite a few teams in the past couple years. Whitehurst? No, he's a top ten waterboy. Maybe as the #3 guy, but he is not a quality backup IMO.
Okay so along with those names and Vick there are a few more but they aren't attractive. Jimmy Clausen played some games for the Ravens last year. Not great but he is viable. Josh Freeman and Ryan Lindley played in the same game for the Colts last year. The final game and it was a win over the Titans. That is a list of 8 names. 9 with the idiot.
Apparently (unconfirmed) the Browns rejected Dallas' trade proposal for McCown. Why not go back to Cleveland and see if Austin Davis would be a viable trade candidate? P.S. I already know the answer.
Not sure. I don't know how much Prescott has retained at this point. But it's a pointless question because I don't care how prepared Moore is. He's not capable of playing QB at the NFL level. He's hot garbage and I don't believe he's capable of winning games for the Cowboys. So it's likely addition by subtraction because now the Cowboys will be forced to go another route, which is something they should have done months ago.
I've never been a big fan of Jerry Jones, simply due to his management style. Is it just me, or does he seem to be dropping the ball more often than not, lately? Maybe he's been burned enough that now he just won't pull the trigger on anybody. I mean, Romo is a good QB, but he isn't getting any younger or durable. Foles would have been a great backup, IMO, and now he's likely going to lose a draft pick. *WALL*
Jimmy Clausen caused Ravens fans to stop bashing Matt Schaub, even with his routine pick sixes. Clausen should not be an option for anyone
I agree. With a possibly brittle starting QB, why wasnt the depth addressed earlier. The longer Jones and company wait, the prices are just going to go up and up i would think, especially if another football team finds their way into the same situation.
Lions GM: No playoff mandate for Caldwell to keep job When Detroit Lions new general manager Bob Quinn decided to keep Jim Caldwell and his staff in place for another season, it was assumed the coach was on a tight leash. If the Lions suffered another disappointing season, it's presumed Quinn will wipe out the current staff and replace them with his own, handpicked coach. Yet, the GM insisted in an interview with the Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press that there is no playoffs-or-bust mentality in the Lions' facility. "There is no mandate of number of wins and there is no mandate of playoffs," Quinn said. So what is the expectations for Caldwell to keep his job? "So listen, it's a combination of wins-losses, decision making," Quinn said. "How's he handle the team? How does he handle adversity? Got players go down, I'm trying to shuffle guys in. Can we get those guys up to speed and get them ready to play? It all goes into it; it's not just one thing." Quinn did acknowledge that wins and losses matter. In the end, that is how Caldwell will be judged, but the GM continued to harp that it's not the only thing that matters. "Yeah, I decided to keep Jim, but we're in this together and we have to improve," Quinn said. "That's the bottom line. We were (7-9), they were (7-9) last year. Improvement is what everyone strives for. Now is that equated to wins and losses? It's hard to say. It's hard to say because of injuries. Things happen during the course of the season." (in part, NFL.com) ________________________________ I thinks Quinn is crazy. He says W's and L's dont matter. But, he makes it sound like Caldwell better improve and be better than 7-9. Last i checked, 7-9 were W's and L's. I understand Quinn wants to be a 'team guy' and take off the pressure from Caldwell, but it seems as if he thinks Caldwell cant read between the lines. ________________________________ PS - ...and yes its slow in the NFL news world.
I think he has a 2 year window. Unless he completely flames out or the locker room and development becomes a mess he will get a chance to build the team up this year and show his stuff next year. It makes sense but I wouldn't give him more than that without real results next year.
I think the Lions will be fun to watch this year. I think, Jones, Tate and Boldin are going to make Stafford fun to watch play again. But they must get a running game and a defense... they might be fun, buts its going to be tough. (which as a Vikings fan, i wont be heartbroken if they win 2 games)
