You know, part of me looks at the Raiders under Gruden and says, "He's helped foster an environment where an addict can get clean and turn his life around, and the first active openly gay player can come out, feel comfortable, and thrive".

I feel like this is one of those instances where the larger conversation of what a toxic environment football generally is, how quickly everyone is to jump on someone for old indiscretions, and how journalism tends to best succeed at inflaming rather than informing... All of these issues really come to a head here, and there was such a chance to get into them in a meaningful way.

But the Raiders and Gruden chose to walk away and sweep it under the rug, and that sucks. Because I really think some good could've come out of this, for the long term, if people had just tried.

Oh, well. The other part of me, for the record, wishes people would find some emails of Nagy's and Pace's...

Ravens rally from 19 points down to beat Colts 31-25 in overtime

Lamar Jackson threw for a career-high 437 yards and three touchdowns to help lead the Baltimore Ravens out of a 19-point second half deficit to steal away a 31-25 victory over the Indianapolis Colts on Monday night.

Jackson led the Ravens on a 10-play drive in overtime that was capped by a 5-yard touchdown pass from Jackson to Marquise Brown to give the Ravens the victory.

The troublesome part of all of it is that Gruden felt like it was okay to put words like he used in emails to employees of NFL teams. Didn't matter who he worked for at the time. And it kinda tells you a little about the inner circles in the NFL.

I'm not a fan of cancel culture but I also don't think this incident can be filed under cancel culture. This is more like chickens coming home to roost.

The NFL, and Roger Goodell, have blood on their hands here and are hoping sacrificing Chucky prevents further shit from hitting the fan.

The emails were discovered during an investigation into the WFT for sexual harassment, and I don't buy the shitbag contrarian/provocateur response that "the email was 10+ years old." Gruden isn't 25 now and he wrote said email at 15, the age where most men are testosterone-driven dumbasses post-puberty. He's 58 and wrote it at ~48. He's reached autonomy.

Nothing on Dan Snyder though, and you'd think he'd be front/center in all of this. If something were to come up next, I'd bet a previous WFT coach/GM/person of semi-importance gets crucified, not the athletic trainer who just got arrested by the FBI tho.

    Enjoy Anthony Miller.

Temper expectations. Dude doesn't use whatever grey matter he has between the ears. Shifty AF tho.

Gruden is out because a large portion of his 53 man roster said (with their play last Sunday) that they want a new coach.

You're right....that's totally why they played poorly Sunday.

Where's the sarcasm font when you need it?

You disagree like 5 year old.

The fact that you know a 5 year old would also disagree with you makes it pretty evident what you said was dumb.

I agree. I'm reading this morning about just what some of these latest emails contain, and yeah... I think you said it all pretty well.

That first point is what I was referring to, as well - it's clear how ingrained this language has been in the football world. When I think of the stereotypical football head coach, Gruden pretty much springs to mind. The fact that this is how he felt comfortable speaking among peers shows that it's about a lot more than just him, and that's really what I was hoping this would all get into. My disappointment, ultimately, is that everyone is just working to sweep this all under the rug, slap some more helmet decals on, and move past it.

Chiefs place Clyde Edwards-Helaire on injured reserve

It was reported on Monday that Chiefs running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire would be out for a bit with his MCL sprain.

Kansas City has made a roster move so that the timeframe is at least three weeks.

The Chiefs placed Edwards-Helaire on injured reserve, one of several Tuesday moves for the 2-3 club.

Edwards-Helaire i njured his eft knee during the third quarter of Sunday’s loss to the Bills. He exited the field and was soon after ruled out for the contest.

The Chiefs also announced that they’ve waived receiver Daurice Fountain, who had not appeared in a game for the team in 2021.

With Joe Thuney also dealing with a broken hand, the Chiefs signed running back Derrick Gore and offensive tackle Prince Tega Wanogho to the 53-man roster.

Kansas City has an opportunity for a get-right game against Washington in Week Six.

T.Y. Hilton returning to Colts practice

The Colts will be getting an offensive piece back on the practice field as they try for their second win of the season this week.

Wide receiver T.Y. Hilton will practice for the first time since being placed on injured reserve in early September. Hilton had surgery to repair a neck injury that he suffered in August.

Hilton has been eligible to return to practice the last two weeks, but Colts head coach Frank Reich said he wasn’t quite ready for that step. Now that he is, Reich said on Wednesday, via Zak Keefer of the TheAthletic.com, that he thinks Hilton will provide “an emotional boost” for the team.

The Colts can add Hilton to the active roster ahead of this Sunday’s game against the Texans or at any other point in the next three weeks. If Hilton is not on the 53-man roster by that point, he’ll have to remain on injured reserve all season.

Linebacker Jordan Glasgow has also been designated to return from injured reserve in Indianapolis.

Tom Brady threw for 297 yards and two touchdowns and Leonard Fournette ran for 81 yards and two scores as the Tampa Bay Buccaneers earned a 28-22 victory over the Philadelphia Eagles on Thursday night.

The six-point margin of victory was far closer than the game felt throughout most of the contest.

Many though it was the wrong call to kick the FG. I'm a little surprised it wasn't a bit more of a difference. 13 minutes seemed like a lot of time and it prevented Tampa going up 3 scores on a FG if it was made.

Panthers running back Christian McCaffrey returned to practice last week and worked again on Wednesday, which seemed to be a positive sign for his chances of returning to action for the team’s Week Six game against the Vikings.

McCaffrey did not practice on Thursday, however, and he remained out on Friday. That indicated he was not going to be returning to action and Panthers head coach Matt Rhule confirmed it at his Friday afternoon press conference when he ruled McCaffrey out for the third straight game.

Longtime Eagles tight end Zach Ertz will be in Philadelphia no longer.

The Eagles traded Ertz to the Cardinals today in exchange for cornerback Tay Gowan and a 2022 fifth-round draft pick, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN.

Although Ertz was known to want a new contract, the report says he hasn’t discussed that with the Cardinals yet.

Ertz is not eligible to play on Sunday for the Cardinals. Players may play only one game in a week, and Ertz played last night for the Eagles.

For the Cardinals, the NFL’s only undefeated team, this acquisition of a 30-year-old three-time Pro Bowler is a clear sign that they have Super Bowl aspirations and want to add more pieces to the puzzle.

Ertz has played all six games for the Eagles this season and scored his last touchdown as an Eagle on Thursday night.

Panthers running back Christian McCaffrey won’t be back any time soon.

The Panthers placed McCaffrey on injured reserve today, according to Darin Gantt of Panthers.com.

That suggests that McCaffrey may have recently aggravated his injured hamstring, perhaps when he returned to practice on a limited basis on Wednesday. All indications up until today had been that McCaffrey was slowly but surely making progress in his recovery from the injury and would be back on the field sooner rather than later.

Now the soonest McCaffrey could play would be Week Nine against the Patriots. He suffered the injury in Week Three.

McCaffrey played only three games last season. Injuries have been a significant issue for him the last two years.

The Panthers also placed rookie guard Deonte Brown on injured reserve after a knee injury in practice on Friday, and they signed guard Michael Jordan from the practice squad to take Brown’s place.

The Panthers will also promote punter Ryan Winslow and running back Spencer Brown from the practice squad to the active roster for Sunday’s game.
