Derrick Henry rushes for 130 yards, three TDs to lead Titans to 37-19 win

Derrick Henry, the league’s leading rusher, had only 31 yards and a touchdown on 11 carries at halftime. He finished with 130 yards and three touchdowns.

The Titans beat the Jaguars 37-19 as Jacksonville ran its franchise losing streak to 20 games. The Jaguars are 0-5 this season. Tennessee improved to 3-2.

Eagles use blocked punt to stun Panthers, 21-18

For most of Sunday’s game, Philadelphia’s offense looked listless. The club had another touchdown wiped off the board due to penalty, after three such instances last week.

But quarterback Jalen Hurts started heating up late in the third quarter. And then the Eagles blocked a punt to set up a late go-ahead touchdown.

And that’s how the Eagles somehow beat the Panthers 21-18.

Kickers melt down, but Mason Crosby recovers as Packers beat Bengals in overtime

It was a nightmare game for the kickers today in Cincinnati. But Packers kicker Mason Crosby finally did what Bengals kicker Evan McPherson did not, and made a field goal.

Crosby’s game-winning 49-yarder gave the Packers a 25-22 overtime win, but the story of the game was the incredible stretch of missed field goals before that: Between Crosby and McPherson, there were five consecutive missed field goals at the end of the game, with three in the final minute and a half of the fourth quarter, and two more in overtime.

That wasn’t all. Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow also threw a disastrous interception in overtime, and Aaron Rodgers took a costly sack. But Rodgers hit Randall Cobb on the play after that sack to set up Crosby’s game winner.

Good news, 1942-45 Chicago Cardinals. Bad news, 2020-21 Jacksonville Jaguars.

With Sunday’s loss to the Titans, the Jaguars have lost 20 games in a row. They join the 1976-77 Buccaneers as the only teams in the 102-season history of the NFL to author a losing streak that made it to 20.

The Cardinals lost 29 in a row; however, the losses that happened in 1944 land on the ledger of the combined Cardinals-Steelers team, as a result of World War II. Technically, those losses don’t count.

So it’s the Bucs and Jags, and Jacksonville is only six losses away from matching the all-time record for consecutive losses.

The Jaguars face the Dolphins in London next week before their bye. Then, they have the Seahawks, Bills, Colts, and 49ers. If they lose each of those, they’ll face the prospect of tying the Buccaneers on November 28 against the Falcons. The record breaker would then come the following week, at the Rams.

Cardinals remain undefeated with 17-10 win over 49ers

The Cardinals’ run as the last undefeated team in 2021 will continue into Week Six.

Kyler Murray threw a late touchdown pass to DeAndre Hopkins to break an offensive slump and the defense came up with four fourth-down stops as the Cardinals improved to 5-0 with a 17-10 victory over the 49ers.

Bills make a statement with 38-20 victory over Chiefs

The Bills spent a lot of time during the offseason coming up with ways to close the gap between themselves and the Chiefs in the AFC.

After Sunday’s Week Five result, it’s safe to say Buffalo accomplished that mission.

The Bills made a clear statement that they are among AFC’s elite with a 38-20 victory over the Chiefs on Sunday Night Football.

It was a game that featured a one-hour, two-minute weather delay between the second and third quarters, but that didn’t matter much for the final result. Kansas City gave up at least 30 points for the fourth consecutive game, as Buffalo blew through the team’s defense for 436 yards.

The Chiefs took a 10-7 lead with 10:00 left in the second quarter. But from there, Buffalo controlled the game. The Bills scored 17 consecutive points to take a 24-13 lead into the extended halftime.

Safety Micah Hyde began to put the game out of reach with a 26-yard pick-six midway through the third quarter. And quarterback Patrick Mahomes threw another interception late in the quarter deep in Buffalo territory to keep Kansas City off the board.

The Chiefs narrowed Buffalo’s lead to 11 points and it looked like they’d have an opportunity to make the game closer. But a key, questionable roughing the passer penalty against defensive end Frank Clark on third down allowed the Bills to extend a fourth-quarter drive. And Buffalo put the nail in the coffin with receiver Emmanuel Sanders‘ 8-yard touchdown with 5:51 on the clock.

Quarterback Josh Allen led the way, going 15-of-26 passing for 315 yards with three touchdowns — averaging 21 yards per completion and 12.2 yards per attempt. Allen was also Buffalo’s leading rusher with eight carries for 59 yards, including a 9-yard TD.

The Chiefs had another game with four turnovers, three of them by Mahomes. He had one of the worst games of his regular-season career, going 33-of-54 passing for 272 yards with a pair of TDs and a pair of interceptions. But he also lost a fumbled snap late in the fourth quarter on a possession that could have at least gotten Kansas City a cosmetic touchdown.

The two-time defending AFC champs could also be without their starting running back for a while, as Clyde Edwards-Helaire exited the contest in the second half with a left knee injury and did not return.

Kansas City is now 2-3 on the season and will travel to face 2-3 Washington in Week Six.

At 4-1, Buffalo will be on the road to take on the 3-2 Titans next Monday night. The Bills can make another statement with a second straight primetime victory on their way to clinching the AFC East sooner than later.

Browns are first team in NFL history to lose despite scoring 40+ points, having no turnovers

Prior to today, 442 teams in NFL history had scored at least 40 points in a game while giving up zero turnovers. Those teams were 442-0.

    Now they’re 442-1.

The Browns lost to the Chargers today despite scoring 42 points and not having a single turnover. They became the first team in NFL history to lose while scoring 40 or more points and having zero turnovers.

They lost because as well as their offense played, their defense played equally poorly, allowing the Chargers to score 47 points, gain 493 yards, pick up 27 first downs and lose just one turnover.

It was a wild, back-and-forth game that saw the Chargers come out on top, and the Browns lose with their offense playing about as well as any losing team’s offense has ever played.

Dak Prescott played the Giants at home, 364 days since the compound fracture and discloation of his right ankle in Week 5 against the Giants last year. Prescott left in tears on his way to the hospital last Oct. 11. He left Sunday’s game with a huge smile.

The Cowboys blew out the Giants 44-20 as Prescott completed 22 of 32 passes for 302 yards with three touchdowns and an interception. He also lost a fumble.

Prescott has become the leading candidate for comeback player of the year with the Cowboys off to a 4-1 start. The Giants fell to 1-4..

    Bears shut down Raiders

With Khalil Mack facing his former team, the Bears’ defense turned in an impressive showing and shut down the Raiders’ offense today in Las Vegas.

The Bears’ 20-9 victory was keyed by the defense, with Mack having seven solo tackles and a sack. Raiders quarterback Derek Carr had a difficult game, with no touchdowns, one interception and three sacks.

Bears quarterback Justin Fields didn’t do much. He completed just 12 of 20 passes for 111 yards, with a touchdown and no interceptions, while gaining just four yards rushing. But the Bears’ defense played well enough that they didn’t need much from Fields.

Chicago’s win leaves both teams at 3-2. For the Bears, they have to feel good about keeping pace in their division on a day when both the Packers and Vikings also won. For the Raiders, it’s a disappointing loss and a two-game losing streak after a 3-0 start to the season.

In week five there have been 24 missed kicks (12 field goals and 12 extra points). The 12 extra point misses ties a record for most in a single week so should there be a miss in tonights game then there will be a new record for missed extra points in a game.

In the packers vs bengals game alone there were 5 missed field goals in the final 2:12 of regulation and overtime. Mason Crosby was responsible for 1 of the missed extra points and three of the missed field goals. He did however kick a 49 yard field goal for the win in overtime.
