Highlight of the first half was when the production crew muted the announcers for a short time (including while the cameras were on them), sparing the TV audience from whatever inane conversation they were having.
With both starting WRs out, it amazes me that the Jets didn't put more emphasis on shutting down Pitts. WTF were they thinking??
Exactly. In my opinion, you can take 2 sub .500 teams to London all the time and its still going to be a great spectacle with world attention. Its just the nature of the NFL today... it is truly a great draw no matter where or how you stack it.
They've had games with teams that had winning records the prior year, but one or the other turned out to be a losing team when the new season came around and the London game was played. And teams do turn their records around quickly, so I'm still a bit surprised that they've NEVER ended up with two winning teams.
Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan continued making his mark in the NFL record books in Sunday’s win over the Jets. Ryan became the seventh player in NFL history with 5,000 completions and passed Eli Manning for eighth place in career passing yards during the 27-20 victory.
Ryan is a HOF-caliber quarterback. Unfortunately, he's going to have a much harder time getting voted in than he should because his entire career has been with the Falcons.
For anyone who didn't watch/record the broadcast, here's an idea of what you missed... Greg Gumbel: If you're the Jets, what do you need to do to jump start this offense? Adam Archuleta: You gotta make plays. Seriously, the highlight of the first half was when the production truck accidentally muted their microphones for a few minutes and deprived us all of the analytical genius of Adam Archuleta.
The other highlight was a play in the first quarter where the on-screen blue line showing the line of scrimmage kept moving around. If you were still half asleep or hung over while watching (or both), it was pretty trippy. The production guys had a little fun with this one. Unfortunately, they did turn Archuleta's mic back on.
Vikings avoid disaster, beat Lions on last-second field goal In a game that didn’t make either team look particularly good, the Vikings found a way to win after nearly blowing a seemingly insurmountable lead. Dalvin Cook was out for the Vikings, but backup running back Alexander Mattison topped 100 yards, including a big play on a 48-yard scamper, and also caught all seven of the passes thrown to him and scored a receiving touchdown. Unfortunately, Mattison also lost a huge fumble with 1:51 remaining in the fourth quarter and the Vikings clinging to a 16-9 lead. After that the Lions scored a touchdown and made the two-point conversion, giving Detroit a 17-16 lead with less than a minute to play. But the Vikings managed to get into field goal range, and a 54-yarder from Greg Joseph was good as time expired. The Vikings won, 19-17. Justin Jefferson had another big game, topping 100 yards. The Vikings have one of the best young receivers in football in Jefferson. Lions quarterback Jared Goff played an ugly game, losing a fumble, throwing an interception and rarely moving the Lions’ offense down the field. He did rally in the end, though, and threw the two-point conversion that could have won the game. The Vikings needed this win if they’re going to have any playoff hopes. They’re now 2-3 and certainly in the mix in the NFC race. The Lions drop to 0-5 and are in the mix for the first pick in the draft. PFT
Steelers snap losing streak, beat Broncos 27-19 The Steelers gave up a good portion of an 18-point lead in the fourth quarter, but they were able to hold off the Broncos at the end of the game. Cornerback Cam Sutton picked off James Pierre in the end zone with 11 seconds left in the fourth quarter and the Steelers held on for a 27-19 win. The victory ends a three-game losing streak for Pittsburgh and leaves them at 2-3 with the Seahawks coming to town next Sunday night. PFT
Buccaneers crush Dolphins 45-17 The Buccaneers had a hard time finding the end zone in New England last Sunday, but they didn’t have any trouble back at home this weekend. Tom Brady threw five touchdowns, the offense gained 559 yards and the Buccaneers outscored the Dolphins 38-7 over the final three quarters of a 45-17 rout. The win moves the Buccaneers to 4-1 on the season while the Dolphins have now lost four straight since opening the season with a win over the Patriots. PFT
