Man this is definitely the downtime for football, lol...we will debate ANYTHING football related on here, won't we?? Hard to believe this many posts have been spent discussing a misinterpretation of another post.
Ah, yup. For me there are only two seasons: football season, and waiting for football season. And the waiting is just slow death.
Dolphins' Dion Jordan conditionally reinstated by NFL It's hard for a former No. 3 overall pick to be a forgotten man, but that's what Dion Jordan has become in Miami. On Friday, he took a step back toward the field. Jordan was conditionally reinstated by the NFL after being suspended for all of 2015, the league announced Friday. NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport first reported the development. Jordan will undergo counseling and will be reevaluated before the start of the season. He will be eligible to play in Week 1 if he meets the conditions set by the NFL. Jordan had been suspended indefinitely since April 2015 without pay following multiple violations of the NFL Policy and Program for Substances of Abuse. The Oregon product failed to make much of an impact as a rookie, then was suspended a total of six games over two suspensions in his second season for testing positive for performance enhancing drugs. Another failed test in April of 2015 knocked him out for all of last season. Now Jordan is talking big that he can take advantage of this opportunity. "I'm not about to waste it. I can't waste it. And I (expletive) love doing it," Jordan told Tom Pelissero of USA TODAY Sports this offseason. "I just turned 26 years old, so life starts to hit you in the face. Who are you outside of those shoulder pads and helmet?" Jordan asked. "And it's weird, but I feel like it's a blessing for me at this point in time to think about it, instead of waiting 'til they really tell me I can't play football no more."
DeAndre Hopkins skips Texans camp, stages holdout DeAndre Hopkins is staging a holdout. The Houston Texans receiver is unhappy with his current contract and did not report to training camp, NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reported Saturday. Hopkins can be fined $40,000 for each day missed. ESPN first reported the news. The Texans brass has declined to negotiate a new deal. Hopkins has two years left on his rookie contract and is set to make just $1 million in base salary in 2016. The 6-foot-1 wideout is a highlight machine. He's the NFL's premier boundary receiver, stretches the field, can post up smaller corners and outmuscle bigger defenders. There is little Hopkins can't do from the receiver position. He also carried the Texans offense last season, earning 31.6 percent of the teams passing targets. Playing with a cadre of crappy quarterbacks last season, Hopkins put up 111 receptions, 1,521 receiving yards and 11 touchdowns. Hopkins said last week he wanted to be paid "what I'm worth." He's certainly worth more than $1 million. The question is whether the Texans will pay him as such. Teams generally don't re-do deals with multiple years left -- most don't want to set a precedent and contractually have no reason to negotiate. One option could be pushing some of next year's money into this season, without actually extending Hopkins' contract (a.k.a. The Marshawn Lynch Solution). Hopkins' only leverage is to withhold his services, but holdouts generally don't end well for players once game checks are about to be missed. Hopkins is certainly worth the $15 million per season other receivers of his caliber are making. Unfortunately for the former first-round pick, he's still under contract for multiple years -- plus the threat of the franchise tag in 2018 -- so he might have to wait a while to see those big dollars.
Chiefs OT Eric Fisher signs 6-year, $63M deal The Kansas City Chiefs want former No. 1 overall pick Eric Fisher around for the long haul. NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reports they signed the offensive tackle to a four year, $48 million extension, with $40 million guaranteed. He's now under contract for the next six seasons for $63 million. The Chiefs later confirmed the extension. "We were able to reach an agreement with Eric and his representatives on a contract extension," Chiefs general manager John Dorsey said. "In three seasons, he's grown significantly as a football player in our system. He's a tough, physical presence and a leader on our offensive line. We look forward to keeping him as a part of our organization and community." The Chiefs picked up Fisher's fifth-year option in May. He is scheduled to make $3.4 million and $11.9 million the next two seasons, respectively. ________________________________________ Man, these guy's get paid very well!
DeAndre Hopkins is back in the facility and in uniform, with the team indicating they'd work on his contract if he returned.
Reggie Bush expected to sign with Buffalo Bills The next phase of Reggie Bush's career is poised to take place in Buffalo. Bush will visit the Bills in Rochester, New York, on Monday and is expected to sign with the team if he passes his physical, a source with knowledge of the situation told NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport. CBS Sports first reported the development. Coach Rex Ryan, always a fan of piling on talented veterans, couldn't resist the temptation to sign the former Heisman Trophy winner. Bush, who recently turned 31, made it through five games last year in San Francisco, rushing eight times for 28 yards. With workhorse Karlos Williams suspended for the first four games of the season and LeSean McCoy expected to get limited reps in training camp after battling ankle issues during mincamp, the Bills needed a versatile running back to get them through the summer months and early fall. The move makes sense assuming Bush can get the Bills to the point where Williams is back, in-shape and healthy. While their offense stars the likes of Tyrod Taylor and Sammy Watkins, there's no question that the ground game is the lifeblood of Buffalo's offense. Bush's arrival doesn't necessarily mean bad news for backups like Mike Gillislee and budding No. 2 running back Jonathan Williams, but it does mean that Buffalo is looking for some right-away professionalism in training camp. http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/a...s-need-to-take-care-of-him-with-new-contract/ Antonio Brown wants a new deal and to be "taken care of!"
http://steelerswire.usatoday.com/2016/08/01/many-believe-leveon-bell-suspension-will-be-reduced/ many believe L. Bell's upcoming suspension to be reduced to only 2 games! wow. maybe they're all smoking dope? *HIGH*
That one might happen, but I would be pretty surprised. I feel that would set a precedent that the league should definitely avoid. It would give players a way to avoid testing. Just uphold the 4 game suspension, and get on with the season.
Sorry, but I just don't see how you can reduce it. Man got busted for pot before, now he misses multiple drug tests...???
Chargers WR Stevie Johnson suffers torn meniscus Training camp is here -- and so are the injuries. NFL Media columnist Michael Silver reported Monday that Chargers wideout Stevie Johnson is facing surgery after suffering a torn meniscus during Sunday's practice, per a source familiar with the injury. It's "unclear," per Silver, whether this will end Johnson's season, but the development is still bad news for San Diego's otherwise loaded passing game. NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reported that Johnson will seek a second opinion and then have surgery, per a source with knowledge of the situation.
Cards players predict 20-plus sacks for Chandler Jones The Cardinals addressed a major need this offseason when they worked out a trade with the Patriots for veteran pass rusher Chandler Jones. After piling up 12.5 sacks last season and 36 over his four years in New England, Jones is seen by his new teammates as the type of talent who could be in for a huge season in the desert. "There's no doubt about it," Cardinals cornerback Patrick Peterson told The Arizona Republic. "He has that potential to be a 20-plus sack guy. ... He's in a contract year, too, so I know he's going to be even that much hungrier." _________________________________________ That would be something else... I'll believe it when I see it. Maybe...
I'd probably cut these guy's some slack and reduce the games if they had a valid excuse and tested clean for banned substances. After all, if he is clean, thats the bottom line.
