I think the Eagles would be good with getting 5 sacks out of Kerrigan for the money they gave him, and that’s a realistic possibility.

Jaguars trade Josiah Scott to Eagles for Jameson Houston and sixth-round pick



Veteran cornerbacks Josiah Scott and Jameson Houston are trading places.

The Jaguars are trading Scott to the Eagles in exchange for Houston and a 2023 sixth-round pick, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN.

Scott was a 2020 fourth-round draft pick of the Jaguars who played in six games as a rookie.

Houston was an undrafted rookie in 2020 who spent time with the Browns, Panthers and Eagles, seeing his first playing time late in the season in Philadelphia.

The Philadelphia Inquirer's Jeff McLane reports Eagles TE Zach Ertz failed to report to voluntary offseason workouts.
He isn't expected to for as long as his current situation with the front office remains unresolved. 30-year-old Ertz has one foot out the door ahead of training camp, waiting to either become a free agent and have his pick of the litter or be traded elsewhere; that latter situation is a finicky one since the Eagles have reportedly requested a third-round pick in return for his lofty $12.72 million cap hit this year. Ertz has a safe (albeit uninspiring) floor given his soft hands for being the tight end equivalent of a pontoon boat, but he would need to land on a team without competition to offer a(ny) ceiling for fantasy.

Report: Washington gives Morgan Moses permission to seek a trade



After 97 starts over seven seasons, right tackle Morgan Moses appears to have played his final game with the Washington Football Team.

Washington has given Moses permission to seek a trade, Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports.

Moses is scheduled to make $7.75 million in 2021.

Washington drafted tackle Samuel Cosmi in the second round, so the plan likely is to make him the right tackle. The team recently signed left tackle Charles Leno, who started every game at left tackle for the Bears the past five seasons.

Washington also has veteran depth in Geron Christian Sr., a third-round choice in 2018 who made six starts at left tackle last season, and Cornelius Lucas, who made eight starts at left tackle last season. Saahdiq Charles, a fourth-round choice in 2020 who played two snaps as a rookie before going on injured reserve, can play tackle.

Penei Sewell agrees to contract with Lions

Penei Sewell wasn’t able to attend the Lions’ rookie minicamp last weekend because he tested positive for COVID-19, but head coach Dan Campbell said that won’t hurt him in any way.

That includes the contractual front. According to multiple reports, Sewell has agreed to terms on his rookie deal with the team.

It’s a four-year deal with a team option for a fifth season for the seventh overall pick in this year’s draft. Sewell is guaranteed just under $24.1 million over the next four years.

Sewell is expected to start at right tackle for the Lions right out of the gate. He played left tackle at Oregon, but was training for both spots leading up to the draft in order to make sure he would fit with any team that took him in the first round.

Philadelphia is signing offensive lineman Le'Raven Clark, NFL Network's Mike Garafolo reported, per a source. The team has since confirmed the signing.

Clark served as a swing tackle in Indianapolis, where he arrived as a third-round pick out of Texas Tech in 2016. He follows former Colts offensive coordinator Nick Sirianni to Philadelphia, where he'll be available to step in in case of injury.

The Eagles suffered many issues along the line in 2020, losing Pro Bowl guard Brandon Brooks during the offseason, tackle Andre Dillard during training camp, and tackles Jordan Mailata and Lane Johnson during the season (though Johnson's season didn't officially end until Week 12). Philadelphia was forced to turn to inexperienced players like Jack Driscoll, Matt Pryor and Nate Herbig to fill the voids left by the Eagles' many injuries.

The Eagles responded by drafting Alabama lineman Landon Dickerson and are now adding Clark. Should they run into another nightmare up front, they'll be better prepared in 2021.

Tim Tebow is a Jaguar.

Tebow signed with the Jaguars today and will be with the team this morning for their voluntary offseason practice, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.

A Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback for Jaguars coach Urban Meyer at Florida and a playoff-game-winning quarterback for the Broncos, Tebow will now try to restart his career as a tight end, a position he has never played.

Tebow was last on an NFL practice field in 2015, when he tried and failed to make the Eagles’ roster. Prior to that he was with the Patriots and also failed to make the roster.

A first-round pick of the Broncos in 2010, Tebow was in Denver for two years and then spent one year with the Jets. He last appeared in an NFL game in 2012.

Bruce Arians isn’t going anywhere, any time soon



There was a Super Bowl Sunday Splash! report suggesting that a win by the Bucs could send coach Bruce Arians back into retirement. That report immediately was dismissed as “100 percent BS,” and B.A. has made it clear that he’s not leaving any time soon.

Arians said in a recent appearance on the Pewter Report Podcast that his plans are simple: Keep going, even if that means still going after quarterback Tom Brady retires.

“Oh yeah, that’s the plan,” he said. “I don’t have any plans on retiring. It’s just, when do I not want to go back to work? When I’m not excited about going back to work then I’m cheating somebody. I’m cheating the Glazer family, I’m cheating my players. Right now I can’t wait to get back to work. I don’t know when that’s going to happen, but no, I’m not tied to any players.”

Arians has a new quarterback in Kyle Trask. Arians said he could get excited working with a young quarterback, post-Brady.

“I could get extremely excited about having another young quarterback and going to war with one,” Arians said. “I’ll be honest with you. I’d be excited to take Blaine Gabbert to war because I love Blaine Gabbert. I think he is the most underrated player in the NFL. So yeah, when it’s not fun, then it will be time.”

Arians is 68, and his health and fitness will always be an issue.

“Everything’s great,” Arians said. “I lost all that weight during the season, but just gained it all back. I have to lose it again, but other than that I got a good, clean bill of health man. I’m still a C-plus. I’m good.”

And, yes, Arians actually said Blaine Gabbert is the most underrated player in the NFL. I may have buried the lede.

Bills sign Treyvon Hester



Buffalo has added some depth to its defensive line.

The Bills announced Thursday morning that they’ve signed defensive tackle Treyvon Hester.

Hester spent time with the Packers and Eagles in 2020, but did not appear in a game for either team. he signed a futures contract with Philadelphia after the season, but was cut in March.

Hester played 15 games for Washington in 2019, recording a sack, tackle for loss, and fumble recovery that season. He entered the league as a Raiders seventh-round pick in 2017 and appeared in 14 contests as a rookie. But he was cut at the beginning of the 2018 regular season. He then played 12 games for Philadelphia that year.

A lot of weird convo going around on this signing and for some good reasons, but wtf, he's in great shape and if it doesnt work out... oh well. He is 33 tho and transitioned from QB to TE and I guess a lot of Jags fans think its just a gimmick. All Tebow has to do is perform on the field and he will gain a lot of fans, but if he flops, Urban might look like a jerk and Tebow will be back in the darkness somewhere.

 

Browns sign Connor Davis



After waiving one tight end on Thursday, the Browns have added another on Friday.

Cleveland signed Connor Davis, a 6-foot-7 tight end out of Stony Brook.

Davis spent much of last season on the Jets practice squad in 2020, but did not appear in a game. He also played for the XFL’s St. Louis Battlehawks in 2020 and the Alliance of American Football’s Birmingham Iron in 2019.

Davis appeared in 41 games at Stony Brook. Though he was primarily a tight end for the program, he also made appearance as offensive tackle and defensive end.

49ers waive WR Marqise Lee, sign WR Bennie Fowler

Marqise Lee's stay with the San Francisco 49ers did not make it a full week.

Signed Monday by San Francisco, Lee was waived on Friday as the 49ers announced his release and the signing of wide receiver Bennie Fowler.

Fowler began his seven-year career with the Broncos from 2014-17 and has since played with the Giants and Saints, spending the 2020 campaign with New Orleans, where he played in five games but ended the season on injured reserve.

Lee, meanwhile, has become a journeyman after a promising start to his career with the Jaguars.

A second-round pick out of USC in 2014, Lee topped 50 receptions and 700 yards receiving in 2016 and 2017, but was derailed by a shoulder injury in 2019. He was released by the Jaguars in the 2020 offseason and signed with the Patriots. He hasn't played a down since 2019, though, as he opted out of the 2020 season.

And so Lee's journey to find his next team to play for continues.

Report: Patriots have had “internal discussions” about Julio Jones



As the Falcons hope and wait for someone to emerge with an offer for the Julio Jones contract, multiple teams undoubtedly have worked mentally and verbally through the possibility. The Patriots, not shockingly, are one of them.

Mike Giardi of NFL Media reports that the Patriots “have had internal discussions” about Jones. In a follow-up tweet, Giardi adds this caveat: “The seriousness of those discussions weren’t made known to me so I shall not speculate.”

That’s an important P.S. The “internal discussions” may have simply been a quick conversation that culminated in a decision not to pursue Jones. Or they may have led to a plan to, at the right time, swoop in with a take-it-or-leave-it offer. Or something in the wide gap in between.

It’s no surprise that the Patriots had “internal discussions.” Many teams should at least do that. The question is whether those “internal discussions” will lead anywhere.

The Patriots have the cap space to absorb Jones’ $15.3 million base salary for 2021. In free agency, they signed receivers Nelson Agholor and Kendrick Bourne, along with tight ends Jonnu Smith and Hunter Henry.

It would nevertheless be fitting for the Patriots to make the move. When then-Falcons G.M. Thomas Dimitroff considered making a big move up in the draft a decade ago to get Jones, he sought input from his former boss, Patriots coach Bill Belichick.

Belichick advised against it.

It will be interesting to know whether Belichick has sought out Dimitroff’s advice regarding a trade for Jones now — and whether Dimitroff would advise against it.
