The reasoning probably varies on a case by case basis. If I'm in Minnesota's war room, my reasoning is something like "right now our draft board sucks". Getting a pick next year is definitely worth moving down a bit this year.
Hilarious. I said earlier that in normal years he'd be a faller in the challenge but since we hit "pick your traits" mode so soon he might even be a riser this year. Yup... riser.
Les Snead had to be breathing a sigh of relief when it turned out the Saints wanted Haener instead of Bennett.
I will definitely say this. If I were a GM I would have designated assistants on draft weekend. 1) There solely as an expert on other teams targets / needs / and draft position. He would track top 5 needs and update them as picks are made. He could be in my ear approaching any spot we pick or when I ask about a couple players of interest who could go soon. Based on what he's heard, who teams have interviewed etc. His entire job is getting in the mindspace of our competition. 2) An expert after the 100+ mock simulations we ran pre-draft about our four most favorable outcomes, to remind me when picks 15-35 break this way, you found it best to trade back to this range, grab an extra pick in this range, then target WR later, look OL now. Or things of that nature. Mostly an assistant to help me decide how I want the draft to go, and help me stay focused on the plan and not get too caught up in the moment. Keep me from trading when it isn't the plan, or keep me focused on getting extra picks instead of tunnel-visioning onto one player in the moment. He and I would have to breathe as one come draft weekend. This is probably my right-hand man. 3) A guy simply to work the phones. Pretty simple, prioritize incoming calls. Dial GMs when requested, etc. Personal preference, but I think our war-room would be one of the quieter ones on draft weekend. It would help me think not to hear 20+ people breathing, clicking on keyboards, chatting in the background.
I didnt understand a word the Cowboys pick announcer just said, but I enjoyed it... laughed my ass off.
Les Snead used to be role #1 for Rich McKay and the early years for Dimitroff. Not 100% certain but I think Ran Carthon used to be something along the lines of role #2 for Snead with the Rams.
Hate the Browns at this point. But I love that pick for the Browns. They need DL help and he's one of my favorite sleepers in this draft. Testing numbers didn't match some of the other guys. But his tape, IMO, was better than a lot of them. I think he's a football player. Sneaky later pick for them.
Damn... NFL-N just listed the Eagles skill players on screen, and it's scary. Jalen Hurts, D'Andre Swift, A.J Brown, DeVonta Smith and Dallas Goedert will all be on the field together. Lots of luck dealing with that, NFC East.
