So hypothetically, how screwed up does the first round get if the Dolphins pass on a QB at 5?

Probably not moreso than any other draft.
Just gets interesting to watch his slide. Who trades up for him and when.

Would suck most in theory for teams like Jets /Raiders if they take a WR instead, Browns and Cards if they pass for an OT

I think something that might be overlooked will be the interest of a couple teams to get ahead of the Giants not for a quarterback, but for Isaiah Simmons.

Saban says teams passing on Tua will regret it like he regrets passing on Brees

When Nick Saban was head coach of the Dolphins, they had the opportunity to sign free agent quarterback Drew Brees. But the Dolphins were concerned about the injury Brees suffered a year before, so they decided not to sign him. That was a mistake.

Now Saban says the Dolphins will be making a similar mistake if they pass on former Alabama quarterback Tua Tagovailoa on Thursday night.

Asked by Andrew Beaton of the Wall Street Journal about Tagovailoa, Saban answered by referencing his experience with Brees.

“We failed Drew Brees on the physical,” Saban says. “That’s why he’s not Miami’s quarterback.”

Saban warns that teams that think Tagovailoa can’t come back from his hip and ankle injuries will suffer the same regrets.

“The sky’s the limit,” Saban said of Tagovailoa’s NFL future. “I don’t think any of the questions with Tua have to do with his ability to throw the ball and be effective.”

Opinions vary widely on Tagovailoa, with some thinking he’s a future franchise quarterback who could easily be a first overall pick, and others thinking he was overrated in Alabama’s talented offense and is too big an injury risk. People have been connecting Tagovailoa and the Dolphins since before last season, and we’ll find out Thursday night if that’s going to be a match.

Washington getting calls about second overall pick

It’s draft week, which means there’s going to be a lot of talk about possible trades that will shake up the order in the first round on Thursday night.

Bengals head coach Zac Taylor said last week that he couldn’t see a scenario where they trade out of the top spot, which likely means Joe Burrow will be on his way to Cincinnati once the draft opens. The consensus opinion is that Washington will follow by taking former Ohio State defensive end Chase Young, but it appears they’ll have other options.

Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that they have been receiving calls from other teams about trading up for the pick. He adds that Washington is not intent on making a trade, but they could conceivably be swayed by the right offer.

The same is true of most spots in the draft, of course, and it would be unusual for Washington not to hear from other clubs trying to see what it would cost to move up. With the Lions and Giants also seen as candidates to trade out of their spots, the price for No. 2 seems likely to be too high but we’ll know for sure in a couple of days.

Justin Herbert favored over Tua Tagovailoa to be second quarterback drafted

Alabama quarterback Tua Tagovailoa has fallen behind Oregon’s Justin Herbert as the favorite to be the second quarterback drafted on Thursday night.

Everyone expects LSU quarterback Joe Burrow to go first overall to the Bengals, but sports books now list Herbert as the favorite to be the second quarterback off the board. MGM lists Herbert’s odds at -125 and Tagovailoa’s odds at -110.

Anyone looking for a long shot bet could put money on Utah State quarterback Jordan Love, who is at +2000 to be the second quarterback drafted.

The extreme long shots are Washington quarterback Jacob Eason at +15,000, Georgia quarterback Jake Fromm at +15,000, Oklahoma quarterback Jalen Hurts at +15,000, Washington State quarterback Anthony Gordon at +25,000, Florida International quarterback James Morgan at +25,000 and Iowa quarterback Nate Stanley at +25,000.

And if you somehow think Burrow isn’t going first overall, you can get +3300 odds on Burrow as the second quarterback drafted.

D’Andre Swift favored to be the first running back off the board

This year’s NFL draft might not have a first-round running back. But whenever the first running back’s name is called, that name is expected to be Georgia’s D’Andre Swift.

Swift is the favorite at MGM, with -154 odds, to be the first running back off the board.

The 5-foot-8, 212-pound Swift led Georgia with 1,218 rushing yards last season, and he’s also a good receiver out of the backfield. The most common position for him in mock drafts is No. 26 overall, to the Dolphins.

After Swift, the three running backs with a legitimate chance to go first at the position are Wisconsin’s Jonathan Taylor (+200), Ohio State’s J.K. Dobbins (+500) and LSU’s Clyde Edwards-Helaire (+700).

The long shots to be the first running back taken are Florida State’s Cam Akers at +5000 and Utah’s Zack Moss at +8000. The extreme long shots are Maryland’s Anthony McFarland, Vanderbilt’s Ke’Shawn Vaughn and Boston College’s A.J. Dillon (all +25,000) and Arizona State’s Eno Benjamin, Florida’s Lamical Perine and Appalachian State’s Darrynton Evans (all +50,000).

The problem with where the Steelers pick is that they might lose out completely on a back who can upgrade their RB room if they don’t snag one at 49. I believe there are 6 who could beat out Conner and they will be gone when 102 rolls around. 5 of the 6 could potentially be there when we pick at 49. There’s some real value in the first two rds for much of the more highly coveted positions that will fall off about the time we pick which should leave the cream of the crop for RBs falling into the Steelers laps.

I was referring to the betting odds. 50-1 is solid for a top 5 guy

Report: Dolphins eyeing possible move to third spot to take a tackle

While much of the focus on the Dolphins’ draft plans have been quarterback-centric, they may have another thought in mind during the first round.

According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, the Dolphins have been calling the teams in front of them to gauge the price to move up, with an eye on getting their choice of the top offensive tackle prospects.

He specifically mentions the third spot (held by Detroit), but there have been reports that the Giants are willing to move the fourth pick as well.

The Dolphins have three first round picks (fifth, 18th, and 26th, and six of the top 70 picks).

Assuming the Bengals don’t want to trade the first one to them, and Washington ends up with Chase Young, the third spot would offer any team the choice of Tristan Wirfs, Mekhi Becton, Jedrick Wills, or Andrew Thomas.

There appears to be significant jockeying for those top four tackles, hence the recent reports that the Panthers (seventh)and Cardinals (eighth) are willing to move down a few spots if the price is right.

The Dolphins have had a need at left tackle since trading Laremy Tunsil to the Texans, and regardless of quarterback, it’s a spot they need to fill.

Got 9 out of 10. I remember reading that the Wonderlic is really strictly timed, so I tried rushing through it. Resulted in a stupid answer I should've gotten right that I regretted right away.

Alright, now I just have to get taller, stronger, faster, and eight years younger. No problem.

Oddsmakers list Jedrick Wills as the favorite ahead of Tristan Wirfs to be the first offensive lineman off the board on Thursday night and the two players have something in common as they embark on their professional careers.

Both men played right tackle in college and are likely to be switching sides once they hit the NFL. Wills’ coach at Alabama Nick Saban said he believes Wills has the “physical abilities” to make the move and Wills shared how the process of preparing for a potential move has been going.

“It’s been going pretty well,” Wills said, via Cleveland.com. “Of course it’s pretty much on my own now without coaches and everything, just preparing for this draft process. But for the most part, it’s been a smooth transition and I’m doing what I can on my own for now until I actually make a team and then we’ll see what their judgement is on it.”

Wills didn’t share Wirfs’ explanation for the difference between the positions — “It kinda feels like wiping your butt with your other hand,” Wirfs said recently — but did say that there needs to be “a whole different set of tools that you have to use to play on that side” of the line.

Wills may not know what side of the line he will be on in his NFL debut, but he shouldn’t have to wait too much longer to know who he’ll be playing for when that moment arrives.
