The LSU loss keeps the Buckeyes alive for a birth in the CFP, I think... helps anyways. I cant see any 2 loss teams going, but stranger things can and will happen.
So, I have no love lost for Ohio State, but I had a hard time dropping them all the way to 5, under USC, when looking at that ranking. Then, I looked at the schedules. Both teams played and beat Notre Dame. Ohio State had Penn State and Michigan as its marquee matchups, and lost one of the two. USC had Oregon State and Utah as its matchups, and lost one of the two. Otherwise, they both had their fair share of cupcake / underwhelming games they were expected to win. If USC beats Utah in their conference game, then I think you make a more comfortable argument for them at #4 and keeping Ohio State out. The argument is, of course, that Ohio State doesn't get a conference final to prove themselves, but thems the breaks.
The 2024-2025 season will officially have the 12 team playoff. That’s when we will not be able to argue that this or that team got jobbed any longer. It took long enough.
The 11th-ranked Utes took down No. 4 USC, 47-24, in the Pac-12 Championship at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas. Good news for the Buckeyes.
Report: Deion Sanders is preparing to accept the Colorado job Hall of Fame cornerback Deion Sanders may eventually be an NFL head coach. Along the way, he apparently will be the head coach at the University of Colorado. Pete Thamel of ESPN.com reports that Sanders is preparing to accept the head-coaching job at Colorado. According to the report, multiple sources say that “Sanders and his associates have spent the week making calls to both potential members of the on-field coaching staff and support staff positions to join him in Boulder.” At the school, there’s a “widespread expectation” he’ll accept the job this weekend. “They’re not doing a great job of hiding this,” an unnamed staff source told Thamel. “If he backs out of this deal, it would be a huge problem for Colorado.” Cincinnati was also believed to be in the mix for Sanders, who has coached Jackson State for three years. He has a record of 26-5 there, including 11-0 this season. Jackson State faces Southern for the SWAC title on Saturday. At some point after the game, it looks like Sanders will be hitting the road, for good. PFT
I read on seebs that they are the number one choice for the last two slots already. They actually think TCU will be the fourth.
I suppose thats possible, but i dont really trust or put too much stock in the pre-CFP opinions from cBS or anyone frankly. Hell, I dont put too much stock in the CFP to get it right either, lol. I am glad they are going to a 12 team playoff in '24, because it should eliminate a lot of the guess work or confusion that takes place every season at this time. Someone is always going to feel slighted or even get legitimately ripped off. Look at all the extra revenue it will generate also... they execs are probably seeing dollar signs and kicking themselves in the ass for not doing this a loooooong time ago.
I think that, if you're USC, you have a legitimate gripe over why you're being punished for playing a game more than your competitors for that last playoff spot. Now, I get it, they should've won. But from another angle, they also shouldn't have had to play another game. There is something inherently unfair, in that. Maybe base it off number of wins, not number of losses? The conference championship games aren't going away, so let's figure out how to make them make sense.
I don’t think TCU should have gotten in over USC because as you said dline the level of competition is atrocious in their conference.
Caleb Williams wins the Heisman Trophy In his first year of playing college football at USC, quarterback Caleb Williams has won college football’s top prize. Williams is the 2022 Heisman Trophy winner. Already the recipient of plenty of hype regarding his NFL future, Williams can’t enter the draft until 2024. He becomes the first USC Heisman winner since running back Reggie Bush in 2005. His aware was rescinded and has not yet been reinstated — even though it should be. USC quarterback Matt Leinart won the Heisman in 2004. USC quarterback Carson Palmer won it in 2002. Williams generated 333 points in the voting. TCU quarterback Max Duggan finished second, with 246 points. Ohio State quarterback C.J. Stroud came in third, with 86 points. Georgia quarterback Stetson Bennett landed in fourth place, with 65 points.
