Detroit Free Press also say's the BIG 10 has cancelled fall sports. Ive read the other major conferences will follow the BIG 10... we will see, but I think football for the Fall is done on the college level.

This is really depressing. Things arnt really getting better as I first expected, only worse.

A lot of players are already declaring for the 2021 draft. The only reason why we are getting this kind of stuff is because all it would take to blow up is their faces is one athlete to get the virus and die and the whole world would come crashing down on NCAA sports.

    Will.......something I do not understand.

Why are Students allowed on Campus ???

Why are Students allowed in Classrooms ???

But they are NOT allowed to play Football.

There are a lot of people kinda upset about this decision. Nebraska says they may play anyway, lol. Its confusing to people everywhere that you can go to school, Wallmart, but you cant play the game or attend sports currently in progress.

Im not sure anybody really knows how to handle the Pandemic... kinda winging it as we go.

One word being used is 'essential' .. if a certain thing is classified as essential, it remains open or active. Im guessing sports is not deemed as essential.

Sports are essential. WTF are fans supposed to do for entertainment while they get wasted on their beer?

Must be a different strain of Covid south of the Mason-Dixon line. The Big12 (and presumably) the SEC and ACC are still planning on playing.

NCAA cancels fall Division I championships, leaving only FBS football trying to play

The NCAA canceled all of its Division I championships Thursday, a week after doing the same at the Division II and Division III levels.

The NCAA Board of Governors, though, only has the authority to suspend NCAA championships, not the FBS postseason. The 10 FBS conferences control the College Football Playoff.

So FBS football — with not all of its conferences or all of its teams — is the only fall sport at any level proceeding.

“We cannot, at this point, have fall NCAA championships,” NCAA president Mark Emmert said in a video.

Emmert said the NCAA will attempt to have fall sports championships in the spring. Those sports include volleyball, cross country and soccer.

“There are ways to do this,” Emmert said. “I’m confident we can figure this out. If schools and conferences want to move forward and . . . more than half want to do it, let’s do it.”

Among the Power 5 football conferences, the ACC, SEC and Big 12 are moving forward with attempting to play this fall. The Pac-12 and Big Ten already have postponed football.

As the immortal (actually, he’s still alive) Doug Llewelyn used to say when taking Raymond Babbitt’s favorite TV show off the air, “Don’t take the law into your own hands. Take ’em to court.”

That’s exactly what multiple Nebraska football players are doing.

In a lawsuit filed today in Lancaster County, Nebraska (i.e., home-field advantage), eight players sued the Big Ten over the decision to cancel the fall 2020 season. The lawsuit includes claims for tortious interference with business expectancies and breach of contract, along with a request for a declaration that the decision to cancel the fall 2020 season is invalid and unenforceable.

The players argue that the Big Ten Counsel of Presidents and Chancellors failed to actually vote on cancellation of the fall 2020 season, in violation of bylaws that require at least 60 percent of the Council to approve the decision. They also claim that the Big Ten relied on a study of potential COVID-19 health effects on patients who are “much older” than college football players, and not in similar physical condition to them. The players likewise tout the notion that a college football environment is “safer” for the athletes than an environment where college football isn’t being played.

The plaintiffs also seek immediate relief in the form of a temporary restraining order, which would then become an effort to secure a preliminary injunction. It’s an uphill climb, but if the players prevail the Big Ten season could end up going forward.

Big Ten says it will play “at the appropriate time” after call from Trump

President Trump is urging the Big Ten to put its football teams back on the field, but the conference says it continues to be guided by concerns about the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

Trump, who has said he wants college football to be played in the fall, set up a call with the Big Ten, which has postponed its 2020 season indefinitely.

“A White House representative reached out to Big Ten Conference Commissioner Kevin Warren on Monday, August 31, 2020 to facilitate a phone call between President Donald J. Trump and Commissioner Warren. On Tuesday, September 1, 2020 Commissioner Warren and the President had a productive conversation,” the Big Ten’s statement said. “The Big Ten Conference and its Return to Competition Task Force, on behalf of the Big Ten Council of Presidents and Chancellors (COP/C) are exhausting every resource to help student-athletes get back to playing the sports they love, at the appropriate time, in the safest and healthiest way possible.”

Trump characterized the conversation somewhat differently, seeming more optimistic about the chances of starting the football season soon.

“Had a very productive conversation with Kevin Warren, Commissioner of the Big Ten Conference, about immediately starting up Big Ten football,” Trump wrote on Twitter. “Would be good (great!) for everyone – Players, Fans, Country. On the one yard line!”

The Big Ten indicated that 11 of its 14 schools agreed with the decision not to play in the fall, and that the other three are willing to go along with it. The conference doesn’t seem eager to put its players back on the field, no matter what the president wants.

Today there are reports out there that say the Big 10 could start play in early October. Don't know if these are just click bait headlines or if there is something substantial behind it. Their "source" was the same guy who said the Big 10 was canceling the season days before they actually canceled it.

    Stay tuned . . .
