^^awesome Dan. I'm glad I asked you. GREAT STUFF !!!!

Since Matty played NCAA Hockey, I hope he answers as it would be cool to see what barn he thinks is the best venue as he's seen so many.

Dartmouth has a nice venue (Thompson Arena). Its the only college hockey game I've attended live. Holds about 3500, has a barrel-vaulted roof. Good vistas throughout.

I've seen 3 NCAA games in my life - 2 at the Wells Fargo Center for the NCAA Frozen 4 and Finals and one on the US Naval Academy Campus when I lived in Annapolis, MD for a 6 month job assignment. The Frozen 4 atmosphere was awesome, but it was the Flyers rink and multi-facilitated building. The US Naval Academy one was more old an old practice arena. It wasn't the real arena, but cool seeing the college kids up close. I saw in row 1 as no one was there. haha. Pucks went into the crowd and no one went after them. When they did, they gave them back to the refs. lol.

I like the smaller venues personally.
Would like to get to every ECAC rink- Cornell, Dartmouth, etc....
Bright Center (Harvard) is a dump but a great place to see some college hockey. I’ve been to every Hockey East rink, some nice ones some blehhh.
Matthews Arena (NU) is one of the oldest, maybe the actual oldest, rinks in the country. The old Whittemore Aeena (UNH) was great, Alfond (UMaine) is a great place to watch a game too. I played at the UMinnesota rink when I was younger and that was cool but I’ve never seen a game there, have to assume the Gophers would be a great take.
I’d love to see St. Cloud State, tiny school but an elite program. They just hosted and crushed my Eagles a few weeks ago.
In terms of new ones Agganis (BU) is really nice and comfortable. I’d also like to see Engelstadt one day.
Not sure if it still happens but the ECAC playoffs used to be at the ‘80 rink at Lake Placid, that rink will still give you the chills, something real special there.

Matty-not poking fun at your age but rather the age of the areana - how many did you play in for college that are still standing today ?

  6. mattymcgee55 Legend Patriots Bruins

Most of the rinks are still around cat. Unless it’s a money generating big time program the rinks all stay the same, more or less. Maybe a facelift every generation or so but the rinks are the same.

thanks Matty-i didn't know if any were really old when you played and were replaced. I think Notre Dame is moving into a new facility soon for hockey and hoops. it's one massive building like MSG where each floor is a ice rink, basketball court and locker rooms etc.

I don't get a chance to visit college hockey arenas, but I do watch. Denver took it to St. Cloud in game 2. Now the WHL I do watch and the Calgary Hitmen just signed 17 yr old Orca Wiesblatt. This kid should be a Canuck.

Ya the Eagles are rolling and its a beautiful thing. Have to be realistic though, they dont have the squad this year.
they started from square one with 6 freshmen, 13 sophs, 5 Jrs, 0 Srs and one post grad kid that doesnt dress.

getting mollywhopped by SCSU and Denver actually helped this team I think. Really brought the kids back to earth and showed them their deficiencies.........in no uncertain terms.

    Hockey LEast this year.

Denver is 672 miles from Des Moines, San Francisco is 1249 miles away. Mid would be between 1000 and 2000. I give! Uncle!
