Penn State found their Pegulabucks sugar daddy. Most club level teams looking to make the jump to D1 are going to need to find such largesse. Hockey's spensive.

Still, Illinois has gotta easily be a top-ten state for youth hockey - perhaps top-five. It just seems odd that they seem willing to export their youth. (Memo: Notre Dame is not in Illinois.)

I can't counter Paul Blake, he and Andre Krimm were unstoppable.

Shhhh, keep the bolded part quiet in these parts. Could get in trouble, they don't teach geography at schools anymore.

Illinois, particularly Chicago, shows very little interest in NCAA teams. Wisconsin and ND are probably the most popular for sports teams, even with alum from Illinois schools. My perception is that a city like Atlanta is more of a college town, Chicago is a pro town, generally speaking.

The northern part of Illinois has been very big for hockey for quite some time. The growth has been tremendous. It's not just the number of players, it's the quality of programs and clinics available. The USHL is helping alot in that regard (9 franchises within a little over 4 hours drive from Chicago area now). It's not hard to get to the Iowa franchises from the NW suburbs of Chicago.

Champaign (U of I) has always been back and forth with commitment to sports despite its size. They never developed the sports fundraising infrastructure schools like ND, Wisconsin, Penn State, Ann Arbor, etc. have developed based on my very limited understanding. When I was in Champaign, I was hoping they would take the leap as it was some time after UIC dropped out. Every 2 or 3 years a story comes out about how they're going to get a program going but it fizzles out quickly.

While Central Illinois has gained a USHL franchise in Bloomington, they recently lost their AHL team in Peoria.

University of Illinois Chicago was in the CCHA from '82-96. they've tried at least.

Oh damn, I thought UIC shut it down earlier than that. Looks like I'm forgetting more stuff or never knew. Why did I have 1989 stuck in my head?

Does Robert Morris have D1? Oh, shit, I think they do, but it's in PA.

Isn't there one buttfuck college in Chicago with collegiate hockey - even DIII?

So, UI, but while UIC still had hockey? Youngster! You and Matty outta relate on a lot of cultural things that I just cannot understand.

Slipped "buttfuck" past the big eye!

Matty is a Bruins fan. There is little we can both relate to.

Yes, there was still UIC hockey when I was in Champaign. I thought it was dead. Maybe I didn't care. They had a bunch of NHL picks on the late 80s teams. I don't recall any of them making NHL noise. UIC wanted to boost it's basketball program since so many high end players were coming from the area. Took a while, but they eventually found an excuse to put the UIC flames "fire on ice" to bed for good.

No D1 programs in Illinois or California. How crazy is that?
    Plenty of club teams.

    Fixt.

As for what you can relate to? Don't ask me! I'm too old for that shit.

The only UIC NHLer I remember is Sean Cronin.

I was looking up UIC rosters, looking for other names. Saw the name Rick Judson. Drafted by the Wings in 89' before they took Konstantinov. That draft sucked as a Hawks fan.

Ray Staszak had a cup of coffee with the Wings.
Didn't catch any other names. Must have been a few more.

Tons of draft picks, but then again there were 87 rounds of drafts + supplemental rounds.

being Good Friday and all they should give all Catholic schools a bye.
hoping to witness Jimmy Vesey's last collegiate game tonight.
excited to catch little(r) Donato also.

Why hope for his last game?
He's not signing in Toronto until August.

Nobody except a small number of jerk offs in Cambridge, MA, ever want to see Hahvahd win at anything. Let's hope this is his last game until he skates for the Leafs.

    ^ thats why.

*not entirely true, I kinda like this Harvard team. they happen to be playing the one eyed pirates tonight??.you know, from the not well known story of the wolf eating the coach's eye.

and just like that ND beats NU 6-2. so much for my sleeper.

Sure, but you also like the HTFB. Do you sometimes go over to Cambridge to masterbate? (You don't seem that type; I'm just trying to reconcile your comment about Hahvahd with real-world realities.)

Woo hoo! Got me a win in this tourney.

Unlike Red, I want the F'ing Hawks to advance far so when the Sabres sign UDFA Drake C. they won't have to burn a year off his ELC right away.

Very sad news. If he grew up on a reservation then he did a lot to pull himself up by the boot straps. We need more people with that kind of gumption.
