^^ a bunch of stuff looks rough on the cooking and food travel shows and then the host tastes it and loves it.

however there are some things i won't eat. i don't care what it tastes like.

The only time I think the food was an upgrade when I was travelling was probably Vegas. Cuba, mexico or the domenican were a downgrade from TO. New york was also good, but we have more variety.
There was a time when the greeks ruled the burger joints here, now they're aging and the kids don't want to take over the family business. There's more franchises now, but always the old school joint if you look for it.

be safe and enjoy. calling for rain on and off. 10 hrs in a car? no thanks. i can't do that anymore. my panic attacks may come back and then it's really bad unless i have my pills with me on standby. i would just fly.

i heard SC is really beautiful to retire, live, work and for vacations. I golfed down there years ago.

I flew the last two years and met my family down there but the four of us flying is not an option. Ill drive thru the night so I don't have to hear the kids say, "how much longer" for a hundred times.

^^yeah pgh- freaking after 9/11 airfare anywhere is insane. a flight to pittsburgh bf 9/11 from philly was $45 1 way. now it's over $150. keep in mind the flight is only 25 min tops! i took the amtrak for $100 roundtrip! brought my own food and beer on the train and after harrisburg, i had the entire train car to myself. the rest of it was empty. i had a mini-cooler with 2 waters and 10 beers in there and 2 sandwiches. well worth it.

flying with 4 people is over $800-1000! No mas. driving all night is tough on the driver, but if you like doing it and the kiddies are asleep more power to ya. enjoy.

Recovering from a wound is fun, airing it out and hoping it starts to scab soon.

I was in Phily last week for my b-day. We did a Philly Cheesesteak-off. Started at Geno's, then Pat's and then Paesano's. There was another joint called Jim's that I didn't get to, but I'll try them the next time. Pat's is better than Geno's, but Paesano's is better than both of them. Paesano's is tricky because they close by 3PM on weekdays. Must be old European ways. Geno's was a bit dry and almost flavorless. Pat's was a notch better and would've scored higher except Pat's was the second sandwich (I was getting full) of the day. Tips for tourists: Get your CS sandwich "wit" (that's with onions) and with Cheez-Whiz.
The best food of the trip was at a place called Khyber Pass. There I had the second best BBQ Brisket sandwich I've ever tasted. They also have a Fried Green Tomato BLT that was excellent. Strongly recommend this eatery to anyone in Philly and the kitchen is open til 1AM.

^^thanks halo. i never heard of Khyber Pass before.

and pat's and geno's may be the trendy tourist traps, but certainly not the best cheesesteak in the city and the fact you had 2 makes you a strong man or just crazy! the grease alone could kill a small horse. yeah the flat steak-ums is a no go for me. i like mine chopped and full !

glad you had a good trip !!
