There's some real long ass trips. The worst for me was taking a greyhound to florida. I left on a thursday night and arrived sunday night. I got to meet a lot of people from the heartland, the america you don't see everyday.

 

for 1 winter break in college i took an Amtrak from Chicago to Philly bc I couldn't afford airfare home. I thought it was an express. There is no express. It stops at every stop at every town! 23 hrs 1 way! All I had was a pack of batteries for my CD Walkman and $10 on me. I didn't even have a sleeping car seat. i slept in my seat. Torture. And for some reason the bathroom toilet opened to the rail road tracks underneath at 90 mph so if you shit, it was going out and right on the tracks. never saw that before.

i get to philly and wait at 30th street station for then my brother in law, now ex brother in law. i looked haggered and didn't shower bc there wasn't one. i changed and freshened up in the bathroom at 90 mph. he said "what the hell is wrong with you?" i said "i just spent 23 hrs on a train with $10 that is now gone and i haven't showered since yesterday at 8 am! He said "ok, dinner is on me, lets get you home!"

Heading back went fast bc i met a young kid who was a Golden Gloves boxing Champ and we talked the whole time. I arrive in Chicago in a blizzard! I take the local train to the town my college was in and call my old roommate bc he said he would be there as it was the first day back and he was an RA now. No answer. I call again. No answer. I walked all the way to campus carrying my bag of clothes, which was heavy as it had clothes for the semester. No one offered me a ride in a blizzard. I get to my dorm room and call him. He answers. I go off on him. He said he took a piss for 3 min and that's when i must have called. I wanted to strangle him!

Amtrak even from Philly to Pitt is the local but after Harrisburg, the towns are every hour apart, so you go pretty fast for an hour at a time. That ride is 7 hrs. When I went to Pitt 2 yrs ago, i learned from my Chicago trip and brought 4 sandwiches, plenty of water and plenty of BEER with me. After Harrisburg, i had the entire train car by myself. I was alone for hours. Little did I know the next car was packed and everyone was drinking beer! I kind of liked my peace and quiet as i napped, ate my 2 sandwiches and drank like 8 beers and promptly toss them in the trash. the conductor never checked on me. hahahha.

they charge like $7 a beer on Amtrak, so i brought my own stuff and said FU Amtrak!

 

Well, that was an amusing little rant, Cat.

 

Speaking of space, that's the one thing I liked when the jays sucked, my space. There would be 12k fans a game, and I would get a nice seat with nobody to the left or right, or in front or behind, beautiful! Now, I have to cram my way through all these assholes, I enjoy watching it at a watering hole chatting up a nice barmaid. *YES*

Nah, maybe 20.years ago, I'm getting to an age where I'm like that train that doesn't stop in every town anymore, only the major cities.

skinny-that was a great and then sad video! im an old softie for animals and against animal abuse. please don't post that stuff. im a bucket of tears now. when those commercials come on tv with sarah mcclaughlin, i have to turn the channel.

 

i was just in detroit monday to see the red wings. thankfully i avoided that lady.

 

I don't like those animal commercials either, I just thought it was an interesting story about the life of a dog, sad though.
