Sly was flat broke when he wrote the script for rocky. He was offered $350k by Irwin winkler, a lot back in 1977, geez, my dad's house was worth $50k. He turned it down because they wanted robert redford or burt reynolds to play the lead role. This guy bet it all on himself and won the american dream. Then of course there was stop or my mom will shoot, regardless he also had a masterpiece with rambo. The rocky's kind of started to lose me on the 5th one, I guess creed was smartly written.

Sly insisted he had to be Rocky and I think he took less money to be the star of it.
i read he wrote it in 3 days which is impressive considering i've written 7 full length screenplays and the fastest one i ever did was 6 weeks and 130 pages.

in the original, mickey was more racist and apollo was Jamaican. i also read he sold his Dog bc he couldn't pay to take care of it. once ROcky hit it big, he saw the guy he sold the dog too and wanted it back. The owner wanted a huge sum for the dog. Kind of a dick move. Sly paid it to get him back.

to me his agent settled on some really bad choices. i know Cobra was bad but it made money. How do you sign up for Stop or my mom will shoot? Come on!

    Sly paid his dues.

Trying to accept society in 2016. I was walking back to my place late last night and two guys were hugging, shocked me so much I jumped back and this cop was even laughing. I guess I'm not as a modern day as I thought.

haha skinny. u must be old school.

here's my thing with Sly and the Oscar this year. The Academy is known for rewarding careers with an Oscar. Some deserving and some not. In this case, Sly deserved it for Creed. The guy who won-Mark Rylance for Bridge of Spies did nothing to earn it. He looked mopey the entire movie. He even said he thought Sly would win. Everyone was pulling for him. Why didn't voters follow suit and vote for him is beyond me. The Academy is also known for giving Oscars to nobodies that no one hears from again too. Sad.

there's a funny scene in the 80's movie Biloxi Blues that is playwrite Neil Simon's alter ego Eugene Jerome. There is a gay soldier in his platoon and one of the other soldiers - Selridge said it best "i don't care what they do, as long as they don't do it to me!"

that's how i fell. Get married. Go have kids. Get a big house. Be a VP of a company. Just don't make out at the company Christmas Party!

The oscars never pick the obvious choice to the average person. It's a snobby crowd with an old private members attitude.

Yeah, I guess I'm old school, downtown is a liberal part of the city. I grew up in a town in the suburbs with a 70's brooklyn type mentality.

skinny-modern day actors can vote too, so i blame them too!

i guarantee stallone's total box office stats are in the top 10 of all time. all the rocky's, the rambos alone were mega-hits.

what is a 70's brooklyn type mentality? i was born in 1971 outside of philly, so i have no idea what that means....haha

    70's brooklyn type attitude

    Ultra-conservative
    Very homophobic
    Reputation for punching people out
Don't let anyone get away with mocking you.
    Non-intellect
    Low opinion of women
    Drive a muscle car
    Chain smoker
    Card player
    Womanizer
Only nice to one or two friends and family.

Probably more, you know the type.

Now these same people have kids in university and value career and success, times have changed, some even go to mass on sundays.

Two weeks ago these two guys got into a fight. The one guy punched the other in the head and he ended up dying in the hospital. In a matter of mere seconds two lives changed forever. One guy is dead and the other one is facing prison time for manslaughter. I'm guessing it was for something real minor, probably alcohol involved. It's not worth it, no matter how much they push you, and believe me these video game playing d bags with girly bodies deserve to get slapped out sometimes, but you have to be better than that.

in your other post you mentioned drinking. if you go down to a thread called RELIGION you will find many posts from me and others as i quit drinking 88 days ago and battling commentary from friends and family that i will never go back to it. if you have time, check it out. some good posts on there.

I came up with my handle skinny 15 years ago for a dating site, nothing to do with philly guy. There was a hamilton mob guy that was doing business in atlantic city in '80, he was approached by the philly guys uncle and left town. Later on he was found in back of his bmw at the toronto airport.

Good luck with the battle, I have to monitor my alcohol intake as well. I have a fatty liver and can't go like I used to. I only drink lite beer and if I get any pains I usually take time off, sometimes up to 3 weeks. I usually ony drink once a week in winter and twice in summer as much as I can handle. I stopped for almost 3 years when I first found out and then lost 25 pounds

There was a boston area dad about ten years ago who killed his kids hockey coach with a punch to the head, you never know.

yeah im done. thought i was having a heart attack at 3am and was in massive chest, stomach and shoulder pain and a pain in my chest plate. i never drank since. 88 days. i knew if i kept going, i would be dead in 5 yrs, so i quit cold turkey.

i lost weight bf but can't now. i eat well and drink a ton of water but no weight loss. im working on that though.

parents and sports fans are nuts. i hate seeing anything like that anymore. just sad and a waste of life.
