I went to this condo building today and saw this memorial for a resident that died in that plane crash in Iran. He went over there for his sisters wedding, he was a computer engineer.

There remains today a visceral loathing of the English. To know Irish history demands this loathing.

It started much earlier than the Famine, but that event was so horrendous as to sear it into our collective memory. The fact that Ireland exported huge amounts of food while 10% of the population literally starved to death, and close to 50% had no recourse but to escape by sea (many on “coffin ships”), would be taken as fiction if not for the simple truth in these cries.

Many Irish came in the 1820’s (they were the workers that dug the Erie Canal). It is estimated that over 60 million Americans call themselves Irish-American. Many reside in Canada and Australia. That this changed the history of the world is an under-appreciated reality.

    Oh, and fuck the Brits!

The biggest reason for mass immigration to the US back then from Europe was because of the land barons. You worked on their land for very little and had no chance at owning any land. Famalies were guaranteed to be in a cycle of poverty.

Many Irish also fled to Mexico during the Mex-Am war. They considered it wrong to be at war with other catholics and switched sides. Vincente Fox and Anthony Quinn are examples of Irish-Mexicans.
