Spooky shit, I just walked into this greek joint for lunch. Two ladies were having a conversation about a 40 year old that just died of a heart attack. I said, what a coincidence, my uncle died of a hear attack 40 years ago, he also lived in this neighbourhood.
I walk out and there's a cemetery across the street, keep in mind, this has never been my area, the east end.
I drove in the place enough to get a phone number. I called and asked if he might be in there. The lady asks me when I called, "what's his name?", I give his name, "yep, he's in section 12."

Not sure if he had kids, all they mention is the time during ww2.

my Dad fought in the Battle of the Bulge as a Medic. If he was alive today, he'd be 95. My Dad was a smart guy who ran Ironworker crews that built 2 of the tallest buildings in Philadelphia. He kept a lot of men employed and made sure they had jobs to keep money coming into the families. However when it came to an answering machine, VCR or microwave, the man was at a loss. He answered the phone when it rang and cooked everything on the stove. VCR? He watched shows as they aired. Haha.

that's how it was back then. all big costumes etc. now there's cheating, judging scandals. my older brother was into watching it live bc it was a big party. I have many South Philly friends who are in different Mummers brigades. I couldn't care less.

Not one women in the parade, who are those guys in suits? Looks like the mob.

They are part of the skit or on street judging. believe me, a lot of the skits don't make sense. now the prize money is huge and they take 6 months to practice their skits and make costumes etc. they do all of this work and there's still corruption with voting etc.

It's funny, if you saw that today it would look like the mobs putting on a gay parade lol. Move on you queers! Lol

or monsters are in the streets. lol.

I know history was made this year as a 13 yr kid was made brigade Captain after his Father died suddenly. The Captains give out the orders to the brigades and the directions of how they are suppose to move and go etc. The Captains get judged separately and the kid took home 4th place as a Captain, which is huge for any Captain, but for a 13 kid was history in the making. Their club was on a podcast when the judging came in and the place went bonkers when the kid got 4th.

The only parade I've ever been to in my life was mardis gras in new orleans. I didn't understand any of the costumes, but they all had meanings. One thing I didn't expect to realize, is that it was a catholic festival. You know, I didn't get anything except that a party is a party, happy mardis gras!
