Had a cannoli on S9th in Philly back in July. Filling was a little wet, the cookie was fine. Overall not great, just ok.

We're a local tradition here in Philadelphia.

Stop by and try something that's truly handmade.

I like it when families keep their businesses going. You have so many family businesses that end up shuttering for lack of interest from the off-spring. You usually see a new immigrant group taking over, although there have been a few that really expnded and did really well.

I like this story, 4 generations, it would've been cool being around at that time.

^^you see that a lot on diners, drive-ins and dives...mom and dad started the business but the kids didnt want to take it over and lost it. now some have become second and third generational owners, but its a tough living running and owning a restaurant and living up to the family name and top quality of their cooking.

I remember a time where, if the kids were academicaly gifted, they would go to university. When they got out, they would take a different career path and the parents would retire and sell sometime later in the future

Now, you see the kids getting business degrees, coming back and using their knowledge to expand the family business.

I know a couple of grocery stores like that, they ended up going from 5 locations to 30. Even some sandwich places ended up franchising, things that their parents weren't capable of achieving.

franchising is huge. even top hoagie places franchise in philly like primo hoagies do it. total money machine. even if you bought a franchise you cant change their menu or hoagies. the hoagies sell themselves.

That's what I don't like, when they start working outside the family (wallstreet lawyers).

What happens is they get approoached by investment groups, they put a plan together, they incorporate it, before you know it, the real owner ends up selling his shares and isn't there any longer

The original customers aren't alive anymore, nobody remembers how they originally tasted.

Tim Hortons is a prime example of how the family got faded out. Even on a different level, the Snider family owning shares in the flyers rather than being the sole owners.

They hired a midget girl at tim hortons, looks like her first day. I tried being nice and smile, she shot me back a look like, screw you buddy!

    Fine

well many people buy a primo hoagie franchise as it's a business to run, but you can't change the logo or menu. you can't deviate from their menu or success.

the snider family sold all remaining shares of the flyers back to the new owners. they're out.

were you eyeing her up for a quickie on top of the slushy counter or were you eyeing her up bc she was a midget? lol

As long as the family is still calling the shots with their product, I'm cool with that.

Ask any oldtimer about tim hortons in the 60s and 70s, different product.
