? who is that? in the movie, The Bandit says the "Texas County Mountie." They're not in even Florida for the trip. Who are you referring too ?
"Buford T. Justice" was the name of a real Florida Highway Patrolman known to Burt Reynolds' father, who himself was once Chief of Police of Riviera Beach, Florida. Reynolds' father was also the inspiration for the word "sumbitch" used in the movie, a phrase he reportedly uttered quite often. Reynolds recalled meeting Gleason: "I'd met Jackie once in Florida where he lived, and he'd done an impression of a Southern sheriff that caused me to fall down laughing. Overly polite to women, Jackie explained, those sheriffs would get the man and say, "Look you sumbitch, what the fuck you think you're doin?" [2] Director Hal Needham gave Gleason free rein to ad-lib dialogue and make suggestions. In the scene where Sheriff Justice unknowingly encounters the Bandit in the "choke and puke" (roadside diner), Reynolds said that it was Gleason's "idea to have the toilet paper coming out of his pantleg when he left the Bar-B-Q." [3] it wasn't on his pantleg. it was on his glasses. hahaha. that story is great Gid. thanks.
What pissed me off is my original thought was Texas, but I wanted to confirm it and looked it up and it said Florida and I outsmarted myself because he couldn’t have been from Florida, they were smuggling coors from west of the Mississippi
no trivia but a factoid - Jackie Gleason was actually nominated for an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor for the Hustler. The Hustler is a rare movie with 4 actors getting Oscar Nominations. They were Paul Newman, Piper Laurie, Jackie Gleason and George C. Scott. First time I saw the movie was on ABC's Saturday Night Midnight Movie with commercials. First B/W movie I ever saw. I was memorized by the opening pool match with Newman and Gleason. I knew every line from their dialogue in the beginning of the movie. The middle is mushy, but the ending is great as well. I still don't get how Newman owes Scott money at the end when he used his own money to beat the guy with the billiards table at his own house and then used his winnings to beat Fats (Gleason) at the end. Regardless a great movie. Rocky matched The Hustler with four actors or actresses getting Oscar Nominated with Stallone, Shire, Meredith and Burt Young getting nominated. Like the Hustler, none won.
Your pronunciation isn't far off, but it's actually 'Phyxius' (from Greek mythology meaning 'to put to flight.')
I remember that I was restoring an old wooden boat when I first saw the movie. I thought about naming that boat after the one in the movie and "Fixit" was probably why I thought that was the answer.
CORREC CORRECT! Floor is your if you want. If not, I have a couple more (from The Replacements) that I can toss out.
