Isn’t Wentz Young enough that they don’t need to have a Russell Wilson type anyway?

Roseman seems to be living in the past. He needs to not let what happened in 2012 effect him today, but to simply learn that anything can and will happen during a draft and plan B must always be ready to go, in my opinion. I didn't understand the need for a high caliber QB in the second round after that huge contact to Wentz in the first place.

I think its Apples to Oranges, on Wilson and Hurts also.

Hard to get inside someone elses head, but maybe Roseman is a tad paranoid of Wentz' injury propensity and hit the panic button when the top QB's were going off the table, I don't know.

Lost in all this is that it wasn't until his QB failure in the draft last year that he felt compelled to do this.

I don’t have a problem with them making that pick.

In fact, I’m an advocate for teams trying to upgrade depth at quarterback every year whether through the draft, trade or free agency.

I just think it’s a bit odd to think that taking Hurts in the second will equate to what the Seahawks got in the third when Philly passed.

Russell should have gone in the first round.

I doubt we will be saying that about Jalen in 10 years.

Seahawks add quarterback Anthony Gordon as undrafted free agent

The Seattle Seahawks have signed former Washington State quarterback Anthony Gordon as an undrafted free agent.

General manager John Schneider confirmed the signing of Gordon in an interview with Sports Radio 950 KJR on Thursday.

“We do have to address the backup quarterback situation,” Schneider said. “We were able to sign Gordon from Washington State who we’re really excited about.”

Gordon is currently the only other quarterback on Seattle’s roster beside Russell Wilson. Geno Smith served as the team’s backup last season but he remains a free agent. Gordon took over for Gardner Minshew as Washington State’s starter and amassed a ton of statistics in an air-raid attack. He threw for 5,579 yards with 48 touchdowns and 16 interceptions in his one year as a starter for the Cougars.

The Seahawks have typically had veteran backups alongside Wilson over his eight seasons in the league. Matt Flynn (2012), Tarvaris Jackson (2013-15), Austin Davis (2017), Brett Hundley (2018) and Smith (2019) have served in the role for Seattle. The only exception was Trevone Boykin in 2016.

Seattle will need more than two quarterbacks on their roster and a veteran addition would be an expected move. Schneider was asked if the idea of Cam Newton or Andy Dalton would make sense for them.

“Well we’ll look at everything,” Schneider said. “We never say no to anything. We go all the way to the wire with everybody, every deal that we’re in. We’ll poke our head around with everything.”

The Seahawks have yet to announce their full list of undrafted free agent signings.

Doug Marrone: There are some veteran QBs we might look at to bring in

The Jaguars picked quarterback Jake Luton in the sixth round last Saturday and they also have Josh Dobbs on their depth chart behind Gardner Minshew, but there may be other moves coming at the position.

While Jaguars head coach Doug Marrone made it clear that the team is moving forward with Minshew as their starting quarterback during an appearance on NFL Network Friday, he also said the team will consider signing a free agent to complement what they already have on hand.

“He’s our QB there’s no doubt about it, but one of the things we’re doing, we’re still looking to make sure we’re upgraded at each position. There are some vets out there we might look at to bring in,” Marrone said.

Andy Dalton became a free agent on Thursday and he was quickly linked to the Jaguars because of his relationship with offensive coordinator Jay Gruden when both men were in Cincinnati. Cam Newton is the other big name veteran on the open market, but the dots aren’t connected quite as easily between him and the Jags.

Raiders quarterback Derek Carr didn’t like hearing speculation that the Raiders could make a run at signing Tom Brady this offseason, but he never doubted he’d be back with the team in 2019.

Carr told Vic Tafur of TheAthletic.com that head coach Jon Gruden and General Manager Mike Mayock “called me and said that they did their due diligence on everything” before confirming their plans to move on with Carr as their quarterback. Carr said he’s “never been blindsided” by the two men and that he feels “very comfortable” with how things stand heading into his third year with Gruden.

Carr is less comfortable with some of what he’s heard from sources other than Mayock and Gruden, however. He told Tafur that he’s done being “politically correct” and doesn’t “care now what anybody says” if they aren’t inside the Raiders organization.

“If anyone is negative to me now on Twitter, I block them out of my life,” Carr said. “If you have something like that to say to me, I have no time for you. And what people get misunderstood is that they will then say that I can’t take the criticism. But it has nothing to do with that. I have one goal and that is to win the Raiders a championship, multiple championships and your negativity isn’t helping me. I don’t want to waste one second on that negativity when I am trying to win a Super Bowl, if that makes sense.”

Carr said that his mind is on finding ways to score more points and win more games, which doesn’t leave him room to care about anything else. Reaching both those goals would make the chatter around Carr more positive whether he’s listening to it or not.

Andy Dalton: No trade because teams knew Bengals would release me

The Bengals released quarterback Andy Dalton on Thursday in a move that came after the team made an effort to trade their longtime starter.

The Bears were thought to be a potential landing spot, but they dealt for Nick Foles instead and Dalton was left with no other trade options as teams knew the Bengals would be taking Joe Burrow with the first overall pick.

“There were several different factors,” Dalton said, via the team’s website. “This year there were a good amount of quarterbacks that were available. I think it would have worked out differently if I had been a free agent when the new league year started. I was still under contact and that hurt me. I’m sure teams knew they were going to take a quarterback No. 1 and they would release me and there was no reason to rush into anything.”

Dalton said he was willing to talk about staying in Cincinnati, but had to “know one way or the other” what the plans were now that Burrow is officially with the team. The plans didn’t involve keeping Dalton and his $17.5 million salary, so he’s now a free agent ready to check out any options that might be available while remaining positive that everything is “going to work out” in the end.

    Bears decline Mitch Trubisky option

The Bears are moving toward a split with quarterback Mitchell Trubisky.

Trubisky, the second overall pick in the 2017 NFL draft, will not have his fifth-year option picked up, according to Tom Pelissero of NFL Network.

That doesn’t necessarily mean Trubisky can’t re-establish himself as the Bears’ franchise quarterback of the future, but it does mean that for now, the Bears are positioning themselves to move on from Trubisky after the 2020 season.

If Trubisky can beat out Nick Foles for the starting job this year, play well and lead the Bears back to the playoffs, he can make the Bears regret not picking up the option. In that case, the Bears could still hold on to Trubisky by franchising him or signing him to a long-term deal.

But as of now, it appears that the Bears — who traded up for Trubisky when they could have stayed put or even traded down and drafted Patrick Mahomes or Deshaun Watson — are going to be done with Trubisky at the end of this year.

Chiefs adding Michigan QB Shea Patterson

The Chiefs have added an extra camp arm, for whenever there might be a camp.

According to Tom Pelissero of NFL Network, the Chiefs are signing former Michigan quarterback Shea Patterson.

They’re well-set at the position with Patrick Mahomes, backup Chad Henne, and former XFLer Jordan Ta'amu.

The fact it’s a week out from the draft and Patterson’s just finding a home is telling, as he regressed his senior season.

Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz was knocked out of Philadelphia’s playoff loss with a concussion, and four months later he’s talking about it for the first time.

Wentz took a hit to the head from Jadeveon Clowney and knew something was wrong, so he alerted the team’s medical staff, which ruled him out for the rest of the game. He said he felt symptoms that made him concerned for his safety.

“It’s scary stuff,” he said. “It kind of changes a lot of things in your brain, and you only get one of these brains and you’ve got to protect it. It was tough to see the finish of that game. That was the end of our season. It was frustrating not to be out there.”

Wentz said his own symptoms, however, were secondary to his frustration not to be there for his teammates.

“Obviously, I’ve had some time now to reflect on that and it’s frustrating,” he said. “A head injury is something that’s just out of your control and it’s just the really frustrating part. I know the league is doing everything they can to take the head injuries out of it, but we as players know what we’re signing up for and we know there’s risks involved. For me I was just frustrated A) to have to deal with a concussion, because that’s never fun – I don’t wish that on anybody – but B) to not be able to finish that game with my teammates and not give us the best chance to win and to do everything I could.”

Wentz described himself as hungry to get back to work, hopefully to get back to the playoffs and this time be healthy enough to start and finish a game.

Jaguars believe in Gardner Minshew, even as they talk to veteran options like Andy Dalton

Gardner Minshew II has become the Jaguars’ starting quarterback, to the delight of Jacksonville fans everywhere. So why does it feel like the Jaguars are trying to find an upgrade over Minshew for 2020?

“I think probably because he was a bit of an unknown commodity,” Caldwell recently said on the #PFTPM podcast. “He was a sixth-round pick. He didn’t have the name recognition of being a first-round pick or maybe the team didn’t invest in him like other first-round picks or get the benefit of the doubt. But he was rookie of the week seven times last year, so I think that was the most out of any rookie and definitely the most out of any rookie quarterback but [he] wasn’t even on the rookie of the year ballot, which was interesting. So I think that how he got here and the way people maybe perceive him because he was a sixth-round pick they think we have a wandering eye. With that being said we’re always about competition and getting the best people here, so we do need depth at that position and to bring in other guys.”

Jaguars coach Doug Marrone has said that the team may bring in a veteran quarterback. Caldwell was asked whether the veteran would be there to serve as a backup to Minshew or to push him and to challenge him and maybe to supplant him.

“I think you always want someone there to push and challenge him and also for security and to be able to sleep at night because as we all know we learned last year you’re eleven or twelve plays away from losing your starting quarterback for a large portion of time,” Caldwell said. “So last year we went into the season and Nick Foles got injured eleven plays into the first game of the season and that’s where kind of the Minshew Mania took off from there, so you always want to have some type of depth at that position, someone to come in and push the starter. Gardner doesn’t need anybody to push him. He is incredible, he’s got incredible desire to compete at the highest level, and I think his teammates see that and they feed off that.”

To the extent the Jaguars are currently looking for a veteran quarterback, it’s natural to ask why they didn’t keep Nick Foles to serve in that capacity.

“I think with Nick’s situation is we weren’t looking to move him,” Caldwell said. “We were looking to keep him, and then there were a handful of teams that were interested in him and we felt that his value and if we were going to start him, we thought enough of Gardner to name him the starter or at least to compete with Nick to be a starter, and then if we could get a good-value draft pick, which we did out of Chicago, and get out from underneath the contract, we just felt like it was the best thing to do for the team.”

The team now has Minshew and Josh Dobbs atop the depth chart. It remains to be seen whether they end up with another quarterback. But they definitely are looking; Caldwell acknowledged that Andy Dalton landed on their radar before he signed with the Cowboys.

“We did have some discussions with his agent and him and I guess I’ll leave it at that,” Caldwell said.

Other veterans are or will become available. Who the Jaguars sign, and what the Jaguars pay him, will go a long way toward letting everyone know whether the veteran is the backup in Jacksonville or the potential starter.

Dwayne Haskins feels “new sense of urgency” in Washington

Washington head coach Ron Rivera believes the team can make a quicker turnaround than he and many others may have expected and it appears his belief is creating a new feeling for the team’s players.

Quarterback Dwayne Haskins wrote a long piece for the team’s website that featured him reminiscing about last year’s draft, his rookie season and what’s gone on this offseason. One thing he’s noticed about the change from 2019 to 2020 has to do with the energy around the team.

Haskins wrote that it was lacking at points this year, but he’s seeing things differently even as the team goes through this offseason at a distance.

“A lot of times last year, I thought we were dragging,” Haskins wrote. “This year, I feel a new sense of urgency. That’s what is fun about football. It’s the “want to,” to play your best in every situation.”

    NBC

Whether it’s Rivera, Haskins or anyone else, any talk about a difference in the organization will remain exactly that until the team gets a chance to show that they’re different on the field.

I figured you had some agenda. lol! Don't worry, that's all changing my friend.

Besides Haskins, we have another future star QB coming in next year's draft (Justin Fields), and you'll wanna remember the name C.J. Stroud, because he'll be after Justin. There's going to be Buckeye QB's all over this league in a couple years.
