The Giants’ fears have been confirmed.

Head coach Brian Daboll said in his Monday press conference that an MRI revealed quarterback Daniel Jones suffered a torn ACL during Sunday’s loss to the Raiders. Jones is now out for the rest of the 2023 season.

With backup quarterback Tyrod Taylor also on injured reserve with a rib issue, Tommy DeVito is expected to take over as the Giants’ starting quarterback. Daboll mentioned that he and G.M. Joe Schoen will talk later on Monday to evaluate the position room.

But there is no guarantee Taylor will be able to return from IR. So it could be DeVito’s job for several weeks.

In his fifth season, Jones completed 67.5 percent of his passes for 909 yards with two touchdowns and six interceptions. He rushed for 206 yards with a touchdown. In six games, Jones was sacked 30 times — taking one on 15.8 percent of his dropbacks.

DeVito has completed 17-of-27 passes in two games for 174 yards with a touchdown and two picks.

New York also has Matt Barkley on its practice squad.

The Giants will play their second of two games against the Cowboys this season in Week 10.

Taylor Heinicke will start again for Falcons in Week 10

The Falcons will keep things status quo at quarterback for at least another week.

Head coach Arthur Smith announced at his Monday press conference that Taylor Heinicke will start for the team against the Cardinals in Week 10.

“Taylor gives us the best chance, with everything going on right now,” Smith said, via Scott Bair of the team’s website.

Smith added that the team will reassess the position after the Week 11 bye.

Heinicke finished Sunday’s loss 21-of-38 for 268 yards with a touchdown and an interception. He’s now completed 33-of-59 passes for 443 yards with two TDs and one pick in two appearances.

Smith noted that Desmond Ridder could still be a factor going forward, saying, via Tori McElhaney of the team’s website, “Doesn’t mean anything is over for Des.”

Ridder started the first eight games of the season for Atlanta, completing 65.4 percent of his passes for 1,701 yards with six touchdowns and six interceptions.

Cant argue with that... he's not the best QB in the League, or even top 5, in my opinion. He's getting paid like one tho. Its just money anyway, right? ;)

Jonathan Gannon: Kyler Murray will start Sunday if all goes well this week

Cardinals coach Jonathan Gannon said in the postgame news conference Sunday that he wasn’t ready to address Kyler Murray’s status for Week 10. Gannon was ready on Monday.

Gannon said “if the week goes well” Murray is expected to start against the Falcons.

“The plan for quaterback this week: Kyler is going to continue to ramp up,” Gannon said, via video from PHNX Cardinals. “He’ll take the one reps, and if the week goes well, he will start on Sunday. Pleased with where he is right now. We’ll see how the week goes.”

Murray has not played in 329 days since tearing the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee. He underwent surgery on Jan. 3 and finally is ready to come off the reserve/physically unable to perform list, which is expected to happen Wednesday.

The Cardinals traded for Joshua Dobbs just before the season began, and he started the first eight games before the team traded him to the Vikings last week. Rookie fifth-round pick Clayton Tune made his first NFL start Sunday, and the Cardinals were blanked by the Browns 27-0.

The Cardinals hold two first-round picks in the 2024 draft, and, at 1-8, they are a contender for the No. 1 overall pick. The final eight games will give them time to evaluate Murray and decide on his future with the team.

He has not played for the Cardinals since Gannon became the head coach and Monti Ossenfort the General Manager.

Justin Fields estimated as limited practice participant

Bears quarterback Justin Fields is moving closer to a return. The team estimated him as a limited participant after a walkthrough Monday.

Fields missed the past three games with a dislocated right thumb, which he injured Oct. 15 against the Vikings.

    He returned to practice Friday.

Coach Matt Eberflus said Monday that Fields is considered day to day, and the Bears will determine his availability for Thursday Night Football later in the week.

“We’ll literally see where it is today and then see where it goes from there,” Eberflus said, via Larry Mayer of the team website, “and we’ll know more on Wednesday in terms of how that progresses.”

The Bears designated running back Khalil Herbert (ankle), receiver Equanimeous St. Brown (hamstring) and cornerback Josh Blackwell (hamstring) to return from injured reserve, opening their 21-day window. All three practiced without restrictions Monday.

Middle linebacker Tremaine Edmunds (knee), tight end Cole Kmet (knee), right guard Nate Davis (ankle) and cornerback Terrell Smith (illness) were estimated as non-participants Monday.

Safety Jaquan Brisker has cleared concussion protocol.

Fullback Khari Blasingame (concussion) is ruled out for Thursday’s game.

Agreed. Hopefully he is on an up-tick and will only improve... the Browns offense needs a spark. Browns play better within their Division and who knows what can happen. Harbaugh said recently that the AFCN is the best Division (no argument there) and he knows this second half of the season will be a tough test for the North Division games...

“We respect these teams. This is a great division. There’s no doubt it’s the best division, it’s proven. We know the teams; these teams are real. When you’re in this division, you have to play them twice a year, you understand them, it’s not just this year, so we understand that. They all understand it, and everybody knows what’s going to happen when we all play each other.”

Then there's the Bengals, they are getting hot... as Burrows goes, so goes the Bengals, but if defense wins championships, I like whats going on in Cleveland and Baltimore. Steelers are in it and cant be overlooked, or they will hand someone their hat.

Bottom-line for me, this Division is real interesting, competitive and most likely going down to the wire. I think I stated before the season that I wouldnt be surprised if all 4 make the Playoffs.

Rodgers met with Chargers star safety Derwin James III at midfield, and the defensive back asked when he was coming back.

    "A few weeks," Rodgers said.

"It’s a process, step by step, day by day," he said. "There’s some great days, some rough days. But the goal for me is to come back this year."

On Friday, Rodgers posted a cryptic message on his social media account.

    "A little more time...,"

Reports: Rams to sign Carson Wentz

Carson Wentz is on his way back to the NFL.

According to multiple reports, the Rams are going to sign Wentz to serve as a backup to Matthew Stafford. Wentz last appeared in a game for the Commanders in Week 17 of the 2022 season and has not been on a roster since the Commanders released him in February.

Wentz played poorly for most of the first six weeks of last season and then went on injured reserve after fracturing a finger on his throwing hand. He was acquired in a trade with the Colts after his lone season in Indianapolis ended with the Colts crashing out of the playoffs by losing their last two games of the regular season.

All of that movement came after Wentz was drafted second overall by the Eagles in 2016 — one pick after the Rams took Jared Goff — and had himself in the MVP conversation in his second season before he tore his ACL. The Eagles went on to win the Super Bowl with Nick Foles, Wentz’s return to the starting lineup ended with a back injury and his time in Philly ended when he was benched in favor of Jalen Hurts in 2020.

Matthew Stafford missed Sunday’s game against the Packers with a thumb injury and Brett Rypien started in the 20-3 loss. Rams head coach Sean McVay said on Monday that the team expects Stafford back after this week’s bye, but the move to Wentz shows they aren’t thrilled with Rypien as the option in the even Stafford misses more time.

    Kyler Murray is back.

Murray has been activated to the 53-man roster, the Cardinals announced on Tuesday.

The quarterback’s 21-day practice window was closing, so Arizona had to put him on the active roster or he would be out for the rest of the season.

Murray tore his ACL last December. Head coach Jonathan Gannon said on Monday that if all goes well this week, Murray will start Sunday’s game against the Falcons.

In 11 games last season, Murray completed 66.4 percent of his passes for 2,368 yards with 14 touchdowns and seven interceptions.

Titans coach Mike Vrabel: Will Levis will be starting QB for rest of 2023 season; Ryan Tannehill to be backup

The Will Levis era is officially underway in Tennessee.

On Tuesday, head coach Mike Vrabel announced Levis is the starting quarterback moving forward. Ryan Tannehill will be the backup.

"We are going to go with Will," Vrabel told reporters. "We think it's the best opportunity for our football team right now. We'll see where he's (Ryan) at is at. We'll progress through here this week. We think, hopeful (he'll) be a backup for us and prepare as a starter. That's where we are at right now. I shared that with the team and had a conversation with everyone involved. That's how that will look like."

Vrabel added, via Titans Insider: "There is clearly something there with Levis, and we want to prepare him and win with him."

The baton pass became official on Tuesday, but it was clear after the rookie's performances the past two weeks with Tannehill (ankle) injured that the Titans should stick with the big-armed quarterback.

Levis shined in his first career start in Week 8, divebombing the Atlanta Falcons with big plays, throwing four touchdowns with zero interceptions with 238 yards passing in a 28-23 win. Week 9 was more of a struggle as the second-round rookie missed several throws in the loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers and tossed a game-ending interception. However, the signs were evident it should be Levis' team moving forward.

The Kentucky product boasts a cannon of an arm, is able to fit the ball in tight windows and opens the Titans' passing offense in ways Tannehill cannot. Levis' willingness to stand strong in the pocket is veteran-esque but does lead to some sacks and big hits. In his first two outings, the 24-year-old rookie also displayed sound presnap processing, calling out blitzes and avoiding staring down his first reads too often. There will be ups and downs, as with all young QBs, but Tennessee will ride through them with the high-upside quarterback.

The Titans sit at 3-5 -- last in the AFC South -- entering Sunday's game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. With the QB change now official, the future is now in Tennessee.
